Universal Orlando Resort Creates New Park Logos
Universal Parks & Resorts is becoming Universal Destinations & Experiences to reflect new entertainment venues opening around the world - including a new theme park in Orlando.
Universal Parks & Resorts is becoming Universal Destinations & Experiences. This rebrand better reflects the offerings Universal brings to fans and how it will continue to expand in the future.
The name change also signals how the company is diversifying by bringing Universal branded entertainment and consumer product experiences to life in unique and creative ways for new audiences, in new places, and on new platforms in both the physical and virtual worlds.
Recently, the company announced several, new original concepts:
A theme park designed for families with young children in Texas.
A year-round horror-inspired entertainment experience in Las Vegas.
SUPER NINTENDO WORLD at Universal Studios Hollywood, CA.
Epic Universe, Universal’s third Orlando theme park, is currently being built.
A complete look at the new logo designs:
Current logos used around Universal Orlando Resort
My favorite logo of all time was the original, used from 1989 to 1998.
In 1998 Universal Studios went to this logo which was used from 1998 through 2017.

How to Rent a Scooter at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando
Tips for renting scooters, EVCs, wheelchairs and strollers at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando.
Renting a scooter, wheelchair or stroller from a third-party vendor will not only save you money at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, but you’ll be able to keep it throughout your entire stay.
Renting directly from the theme parks will cost more and you’re restricted to theme park use only.
RENTING DIRECT FROM DISNEY
Scooters, also known as Electric Convenience Vehicles (ECVs), wheelchairs, and stroller rentals are available at each of the Walt Disney World theme parks.
Disney World does not offer scooter or wheelchair reservations and they often sell out. Rentals are first come, first served.
Disney World Resort hotels do not rent scooters but wheelchairs are available. Wheelchairs can be rented for the length of your stay.
If you intend to park hop, note that ECVs may not be removed from the park where they were rented from.
When leaving one theme park to visit another on the same day (Park Hopping) you’ll need to present your rental receipt from the first rental along with your deposit to secure another ECV, if available.
Scooters, wheelchairs, and strollers will cost more at Disney so I recommend using a third-party provider like ScooterBug or Buena Vista Rentals.
How to get a Disability Access Service Pass at Walt Disney World
If you are unable to wait in the traditional queue for an attraction for a medical reason, you may qualify for a Disability Access Service Card (DAS Pass).
This is not a front-of-the-line pass but rather a system that holds your place in line while you wait somewhere that’s more comfortable for you.
You obtain a Disney DAS Card online, in advance of your visit.
Through a live chat with a Cast Member, you’ll be asked a few general questions about your condition and the accommodation that you need. You will not need to show a doctor’s note.
If you qualify, the DAS pass will be unlocked in your My Disney Experience mobile app where you can virtually enter ride queues without having to physically be in line. The entire process is managed through the app. If you set up MagicMobile, all you need to do is tap your phone.
Disney MagicMobile
You will be permitted to bring a small number of guests with you so you can all enjoy the attraction together.
Renting Scooters Direct from Universal Orlando
Scooters (ECVs), wheelchairs and strollers are available to rent inside each of the Universal Orlando theme parks.
You can reserve a scooter or wheelchair at least 1 week in advance as they do sell out. Call Guest Services 407-224-4233 to make a reservation.
Wheelchairs are available inside the parking hub that can be used to take you to the park entrance.
Scooters and wheelchairs are not available at Volcano Bay water park.
If you need a scooter at your hotel, consider renting a scooter from a third-party provider as you will not be permitted to take the scooter outside of the theme parks.
How to obtain an Attraction Assistance Pass at Universal Orlando
You can obtain an Attraction Assistance Pass from Guest Relations, located in CityWalk next to Starbucks Coffee.
This is not a front-of-the-line pass but rather a system that holds your place in line while you wait somewhere that’s more comfortable for you.
Go to one of the TeamMembers posted outside the attraction and show your Attraction Assistance Pass.
He or she will write down your return time on the back of the pass. You are then free to go somewhere else and wait.
When your time comes around, head back to the attraction and you’ll be escorted into a special line with minimal wait. Note that on popular rides, the wait can still be 45 minutes or more.
You can bring a small number of guests with you so you can all ride together.
Renting a scooter from a third-party provider
If you need a scooter, wheelchair, or stroller for your vacation, not just at the theme parks, you’ll need to rent from a third-party company such as Buena Vista or ScooterBug.
You’ll be able to take your device between the theme parks and take it to your hotel. Buses, monorails, and most watercraft can accommodate scooters.
ScooterBug and Buena Vista Rentals will send a service technician into the parks for service should you experience a malfunction or if you need a replacement.
Scooter Bug (scooterbug.com) is the exclusive provider of electric convenience (ECV) scooters, strollers and wheelchairs for Walt Disney World. This means you do not need to be present upon delivery and drop off of your device.
Will deliver and pickup without you being present.
Competitive rates.
Cancel up to 48 hours in advance for a full refund.
ScooterBug also services Universal Orlando Resort.
Buena Vista Rentals (buenavistascooters.com) offers free delivery and pick up at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando hotels.
Scooters are delivered to Disney World hotels on a schedule, drivers make 3 stops per day, you can select the time that best fits your needs. You must be present for pick up and drop off at Disney.
If you take the evening delivery, you’ll get one free rental day.
You do not need to be present at Universal Orlando hotels for pick up and drop off.
Readers of this website will receive a 10% discount when you book online.

Insider’s Guide to the Universal Orlando Mobile App
Using the Universal Orlando Mobile App
The official Universal Orlando Resort mobile app includes a variety of tools and resources to help you before and during your Universal Orlando vacation.
The Universal Orlando app allows you to
Link park tickets
Place mobile food and drink orders
Join a virtual line
Create your own "must-do" list
Explore park maps and so much more
Insider Tip: The map has helpful features like Express Pass-enabled locations, height restrictions, show times, dietary options, and more.
Download the official mobile app (it’s free)
Once you download the app, create or sign in to your Universal account.
Set up your wallet
The wallet feature is known as Universal Pay. Using Universal Pay makes your day easier.
It’s most helpful when ordering food because Universal Orlando encourages mobile orders at quick-service restaurants.
You can place an order and pay for it right in the app (more on this below).
Using Universal Pay at Volcano Bay Water Park
Going to Volcano Bay water park? (It’s only the best water park in Orlando!) Leave your phone in your locker or in your beach bag and your bag of rice at home, you’re phone won’t be getting wet here.
You can purchase food, beverages, and merchandise using Tapu Tapu, a waterproof wristband that is provided upon entry to the park.
Use Tapu Tapu anywhere Universal Pay is accepted in the park. No need to carry your phone, cash, or cards in your bathing suit.
You can also set up and manage sub-accounts for others in your party and set spending limits so they can make purchases with Tapu Tapu as well. See my Tips for Volcano Bay here.
Tapu Tapu at Universal Orlando’s Volcano Bay Water Park
Use the App to Plan Your Trip
Scroll through the rides and shows that are available at each park.
Tap the heart on your favorite attractions to add them to your favorites list, making it easy to reference wait times and attraction details once you are in the park.
Doing this helps ensure that you won’t miss any must-dos while touring the parks.
Linking tickets to the Universal Orlando mobile app
If you booked a vacation package with me, you’ll pick up your tickets when you arrive at your Universal Orlando hotel.
To add a ticket to the mobile app, select “Scan Tickets & Add Ons” to scan the back of your ticket or enter your ticket number (located under the barcode).
If you need help, just ask a Team Member at the ticket desk, located inside the hotel lobby.
Placing Mobile Food and Drink Orders
Order ahead from select restaurants when you’re in the theme parks and at CityWalk.
How to place your mobile order
Open the side navigation and select "Mobile Food & Drink Ordering"
Select an available restaurant
Browse menu options and make customizations
Tap “Prepare My Order”
Wait at the pickup window to receive your order
Join Virtual Lines at Universal Orlando
During busier times of the year, some of Universal Orlando’s most popular attractions allow you to join a Virtual Line. Rather than stand in a physical line, you can reserve a time to ride and go off to enjoy other areas of the park. This feature is free.
Here’s how Virtual Lines work:
Pick your ride in the app
Join the queue for a time window that works for you
Show the Team Member your phone to scan and enter the attraction
The app will display the attractions that are offering a Virtual Line, if any. You can almost always find Race Through New York starring Jimmy Fallon as an option.
Depending on how crowded the park is, Universal may also offer Virtual Line on the following:
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
Fast & Furious: Supercharged
Revenge of the Mummy
Universal Orlando adjusts Virtual Line throughout the day. The day may start off without any Virtual Lines being offered but as the park gets busier, some Virtual Lines may begin to come online. Universal may also remove the option during the day if it’s no longer needed - but they will still honor existing reservations.
Insider Tip! I recommend you check for Virtual Lines starting 20 minutes prior to the park opening time.
Insider Tip! Use the “Wait Time Alert” feature on the app to get notified if the wait for a favorite attraction is under a certain time. For example, you can set up an alert to be notified if the wait for Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure drops below 60 minutes.

This is a brand new, full service resort offering a luxury (but relaxed) hotel tower plus Key West-style vacation homes. The best part is that they usually cost less than Disney World Moderate and Deluxe hotels!

Where Can I See Santa at Disney World and Universal Orlando?
Where you’ll spot Santa at Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World
Santa loves theme parks! In fact, he visits Orlando every chance he gets, even during the busy holiday season.
Here’s a quick list of where you can find Santa Clause at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando.
Walt Disney World
Where you can find Santa Clause at Disney World 2021. This year Disney introduced Black Santa to be more inclusive of how Santa is celebrated in communities worldwide.
Magic Kingdom - Santa appears during the Very Merriest After Hours event as part of the holiday parade. This is a seperate ticketed event.
Epcot - You can say hi to Santa at the American Adventure. Also, the storytellers have returned to World Showcase. Father Christmas will be at the United Kingdom pavilion. In Norway, you can hear the humerus story of Sigrid and the tricky Barn Santa. In France, Père Noël, will be reading the letter of a child and their holidays wishes.
Hollywood Studios - Santa will be in the Merry MotorCars parade waving to guests.
Animal Kingdom - Santa will pass by on a special float along Discovery River.
Disney Springs - To see Santa, you’ll need to sign up through the virtual queue. When you arrive at Once Upon a Toy at Disney Springs, check for a sign with a QR code.

International Guests Can't Wait to Visit Orlando
The U.S. has reopened to travelers from around the world. Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort are ready to show them a good time!
The U.S. has officially reopened to travelers from around the world. Walt Disney World Resort and Universal Orlando Resort are ready to show them a good time!
A Virgin Atlantic flight from the United Kingdom touched down in Orlando, Florida on Monday – the first time in 19 months. The flight, was completely sold out, according to Virgin.
This marks another milestone in economic recovery from the pandemic and one more way Orlando is returning to normal.
Maybe our International exchange hosts will return to Epcot, it’s not the same without them.
This is going to be very good news for Orlando’s theme parks. I am seeing pent-up demand from European travelers and I think this is contributing to Disney and Universal’s hotels being 90% sold out this holiday season.
International travelers tend to stay longer too. For example, the average Canadian resident spends about 10 days in Orlando and the average UK visitor will spend 2 weeks here, or a “fortnight” as they like to say. I love that term!
So much has been added to the theme parks in the past 19 months! There are also some safety protocols in place. If you have questions about traveling to Orlando from abroad, please feel free to comment below or contact me directly.

Top 5 Tips for Visiting Volcano Bay at Universal Orlando
My Top 5 Tips for Touring Volcano Bay Water Park at Universal Orlando Resort
5 Tips that will help you have even more fun Volcano Bay water park at Universal Orlando in Florida.
First, I have to say that Volcany Bay is the best water park in Orlando! Not only was it designed well, but there are a variety of water attractions so there’s something for everyone. We used the virtual line system so we were not standing in line all day.
That's a huge benefit and it's included free with admission.
On this trip we stayed at Universal's Cabana Bay Beach Resort so we had the benefit of Early Park Admission.
We had the park to ourselves for much of the morning. Plus Cabana Bay is within walking distance to Volcano Bay.
We were there in less than 5 minutes. If you're visiting Universal Orlando for the theme parks, a 3-park ticket will give you access to the water park.
The cost isn't much more than a 2-park ticket so it's definitely a good value, especially on a multi-day ticket.
We have several Agency Exclusive Offers for Universal Orlando. To find out how you can get the most out of your visit, go to orlandoparksguy.com/uor

Update to SaveatWDW.com Coming Soon
SaveAtWDW will soon change to OrlandoParksGuy.com to reflect Orlando as a destination, rather than just Walt Disney World.
Today I’m excited to share that my website, SaveAtWDW.com, will be changing to OrlandoParksGuy.com.
SaveAtWDW.com will soon be OrlandoParksGuy.com
This is a name change only, I will still be the one providing offers and travel guides for Walt Disney World.
I am busy as ever with Magical Vacations Travel too!
OrlandoParksGuy.com is more encompassing of the services I provide to my readers and clients. Over the past few years I’ve gotten more requests about Orlando as a destination, rather than just Walt Disney World.
Plus, as an Orlando resident, I am watching the city grow well beyond Walt Disney World.
Universal has already started work on a 4th theme park, high speed train service will soon connect Orlando to Tampa and Miami, and Port Canaveral Cruise Terminal is expanding to accommodate more cruise ships, including the mega ships like Wonder of the Seas.
In addition to the new name, I gave the offers pages a new look and I’ve made it easier to bundle a Walt Disney World vacation with Universal Orlando or an Orlando-based cruise.

5 Tips for Making Holiday Travel Plans This Year
5 Tips for Making Holiday Travel Plans
More and more people are beginning to venture out in need of a little vacation fun. I’m noticing that the trend for Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando is for shorter vacations, 3 or 4 nights, mid-week. There is a slight uptick in Universal Orlando travel and I suspect this is because it isn’t as complex as Disney World. 2 or 3 days in the Universal parks is just the right amount of time to see and do it all. But Disney is still a great choice, too, as it is planning on going all out with the decorations plus some special entertainment. Plus, with lighter crowds, it won’t take as long to tour the Disney parks.
Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Resort
No matter where you are thinking of going, here are 5 tips that can help you make smart decisions about traveling this holiday season.
1. Look for fares or rates with built-in flexibility.
Many travel providers and destinations are changing up their policies. Make note of any deadlines to cancel for a full refund, and avoid any super restrictive airfares that prohibit changes. Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando are allowing guests to cancel up to the day of arrival for a full refund through December.
2. Start watching airfare prices now.
I just paid $100 roundtrip for a jetBlue flight during Christmas week. Now is the time to check for cheap holiday airfares as many airlines try to entice travelers into planning a trip. Historically speaking, fares increase as the holidays get closer, so it's worth booking a refundable/flexible ticket early if the price is right for you. Some airlines are offering refundable tickets at no extra charge. Set up fare alerts with your airline or through Google Flights so that you’re immediately notified when fares drop. Also, being flexible with your travel dates will help ensure you don't miss a great deal. Visit my airline page for more helpful tips on how to save on Orlando flights.
3. Research health and cleanliness measures.
Want to know what your hotel is doing to ensure the safety of guests? Visit the hotel website or call the destination directly if you have a specific question. Most reputable airlines, destinations, and hotels are taking COVID very seriously and have a plan in place. Walt Disney World has created a dedicated website that is constantly updated with the latest information. Universal Orlando created a Safety FAQ page on its website.
4. Factor in the popularity of your destination.
While there might be fewer holiday travelers this year, some destinations—particularly beaches and ski resorts—are expected to be in-demand as travelers opt to stay closer to home. So, if you're headed somewhere like Florida, Vermont, or Vail, now is the time to book. Remember to look for fares or rates with built-in flexibility (see Tip 1).
5. Consider alternate travel dates.
One upside to remote work and/or school is that you can do it from anywhere. Take advantage of the flexibility and avoid the typical busy travel days (like the day before Thanksgiving) or stay at your destination longer than usual to maximize your trip. Crowds are super light at Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando right now thanks to reduced capacity, especially during the week. This is a very rare opportunity to enjoy the parks with fewer people and shorter lines.

2 Days at Universal Orlando, Here's What it Was Like
I attended two days of previews at Universal Orlando Resort under the new health and safety guidelines and I had a great experience. Walt Disney World Resort will have nearly identical guidelines when it reopens on July 11, 2020 and based on how well Universal Orlando managed things, this just might work out even at Disney!
Here’s a recap of my experience at Universal Orlando with the safety guidelines in place.
All guests must have their temperature taken prior to entering the park. Team Members will also check for masks at this point. If you do not have a mask, you can purchase one at the gift shop near the security checkpoint. Guests who do not have a mask, even those with medical notes, will not be permitted to enter, no exceptions.
Every attraction at both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios have blue floor markers that help guests visualize where to stand. It’s amazing how many of them there are, I couldn’t help but think how long it must have taken to measure and tape them down. These markers even take into account switchbacks. So, not only are you 6ft. behind the group in front of you, but you’re also spaced appropriately from those alongside of you. This is no joke here, Universal thought of everything.
Guest stand about 6ft apart in attraction lines. It works well, floor makers, pictured above, help show guests where to stand. Having the extra room in line is nice, no annoying people stepping on your heels in line. It’s a first class experience.
Team Members will dispense hand sanitizer for all members of your party right before you board an attraction. I would bring hand lotion as the sanitizer does dry out your skin after a while.
Guests won’t be able to hug the characters for obvious reasons but you can still interact with them. Here Sponge Bob did a number of silly poses for my son and I. He was really playful too, we had no idea what he was doing behind us, but he had my wife, the photographer, laughing hysterically.
We saw other characters getting kids to dance with them, Fortnight dances, the Hand Jive, Chicken Dance all very popular. The kids loved it and parents got some great photos and video. Characters will also pose for photos if you ask, you just have to stand 6ft. in front of them. But in the photos, they appear to be right behind you.
Is it like it used to be? Unless you must give them a hug, it’s still a lot of fun, and in some ways it’s even more fun now because they interact more rather than just pose for photos.
What’s it like having to wear a mask all day in the park? Well, it would be better if we didn’t have to, but it’s not that bad. For me, it beats staying home. You do get used to it. I highly recommend investing in a quality mask, one that fits comfortably and breathes well. I had been using those blue paper masks until I finally got one made of cloth. Wow! What a big difference! I was a lot more comfortable and didn’t mind wearing a mask at all. I didn’t feel too hot or stuffy with the mask on. The only issue I had was that my sunglasses would occasionally fog up when I exhaled into the mask.
If you need a break from the mask, Universal has designated areas where you’re allowed to temporarily remove it. They just ask that you stay 6ft from others while doing so in this area.
So was it worth visiting the parks with these guidelines in place? Absolutely! It really didn’t feel that much different honestly. My family and I were so focused on the experiences, that we didn’t think much about the new guidelines. It just felt great being back in the parks again.
