Visiting Anakeesta & Dollywood at Christmas: My Complete Guide + Hotel Tips from Pigeon Forge
I left Orlando behind and headed to the Smoky Mountains to experience Dollywood Christmas and Anakeesta in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. From the Anakeesta Mountain Coaster and Astra Lumina to the iconic Dollywood Christmas train ride, this first-person guide shares real tips, crowd strategies, and hotel advice from my stay at Tru by Hilton Pigeon Forge.
After years of spending the holidays in Orlando theme parks, I decided I wanted something completely different for Christmasācrisp mountain air instead of humid Florida nights, small-town charm instead of mega crowds, and holiday lights wrapped around real trees instead of palm trees. So this year, I packed up the car and drove 700 miles north to experience Gatlinburg Tennessee, Anakeesta Mountain, and Dollywood Christmas firsthand.
The Tap House at the the top of Anakeesta Mountain.
And Iāll be honestāI didnāt expect this trip to challenge my loyalty to Orlando as my favorite holiday destination. But it did.
In this guide, Iām sharing everything I learned about visiting Anakeesta Gatlinburg TN and Dollywood at Christmas, plus a full breakdown of the hotel I stayed atāTru by Hilton Pigeon Forge. If you're planning a Christmas trip to the Smoky Mountains, this article will help you avoid mistakes, manage crowds, and get the most out of your time.
And if youād like to see the full experience unfold visuallyāincluding Astra Lumina, the Anakeesta Mountain Coaster, and the Dollywood Christmas Train Rideāyou can watch my full video here:

The Drive from Orlando to Gatlinburg: What to Expect
Driving from Orlando to the Smoky Mountains is no small commitment. Itās roughly 700 miles and about 12 hours, depending on traffic and stops. I left before sunrise while most of Orlando was still asleep, trading palm trees for pine trees and Florida humidity for cool mountain air.
One of the unexpected highlights of the drive? Buc-eeās. Not onceābut twice. These massive travel centers break up the drive perfectly, offer some of the cleanest restrooms on the road, and surprisingly cheap gas. For families, this alone makes the long drive feel manageable.
Once you hit Atlanta, traffic slows significantly. After that, the drive becomes mountainous and scenic. By the time I reached Pigeon Forge, it was dark, cold, and completely worth it.
Where I Stayed: Tru by Hilton Pigeon Forge (Full Hotel Review)
For this trip, I stayed at the Tru by Hilton Pigeon Forge, and for families looking for a clean, modern, budget-friendly hotel during Christmas, I genuinely recommend it.
Tru by Hilton Hotel in Pigeon Forge is one of the better options in the area. Itās new, clean, modern and has a complimentary breakfast.
ā What I Loved
Modern, bright lobby with an open, casual feel
Family-friendly atmosphere
Indoor pool (great after a long park day)
Free breakfast
Excellent location close to Gatlinburg and Dollywood
I booked entirely with Hilton points, which made it an incredible value
The room itself was simple but comfortableātwo queen beds, strong water pressure in the shower, and everything felt new and well-maintained. The only downside? No drawers. Everything stays on open shelving, which is fine for short stays but not ideal for longer trips.
Tip:
If youāre visiting Dollywood Christmas and Anakeesta during peak season, booking early is critical. Holiday weeks fill fast in Pigeon Forge.
Day 2: Exploring Gatlinburg & Anakeesta Mountain at Christmas
Waking up to 55-degree mountain air instead of Orlando humidity instantly made the trip feel different. After grabbing coffee, I drove into Gatlinburg Tennessee, which transforms into a full Christmas village during the holidays.
Pancake Pantry: A Gatlinburg Tradition
If you go to Gatlinburg, you will see the line for Pancake Pantryāand yes, itās worth it. Expect a 45-minute wait, especially during Christmas week. The pancakes are legendary, the interior feels frozen in time, and Dolly Parton has eaten hereāwhich feels like the ultimate endorsement.
Anakeesta Gatlinburg TN: How to Do It Right at Christmas
By late morning, I arrived at Anakeesta Mountain, one of the biggest attractions in Gatlinburg. Hereās what you need to know before visiting:
Getting to the Top
You have three ways up the mountain:
Chairlift (most scenic)
Gondola (enclosed & warmer)
Ridge Rambler truck (bumpy but fun)
I chose the chairlift on the way up for the viewsāand it was absolutely the right call. Floating above Gatlinburg with Christmas decorations below feels like something out of a movie.
Treetop Skywalk: A Must-Do
Treetop Skywalk
This is the longest tree-based skywalk in North America, and walking across the suspension bridges during Christmas, surrounded by bare trees and evergreens, is one of the most underrated experiences in Gatlinburg. Itās peaceful, scenic, and completely unique compared to anything in Orlando.
Anakeesta Mountain Coaster (Hellbender): Day vs Night
The Anakeesta Mountain Coaster, also known as Hellbender, is not included with admissionābut itās worth every dollar.
Hellbender Mountain Coaster
Cost: About $15 per person for two rides
Daytime Ride: Scenic, fast, smooth
Night Ride: Completely different experience with lights and mountain darkness
Tip:
Ride once during the day and save the second ride for night. The contrast makes it feel like two totally different attractions.
Vista Gardens & Observation Tower
Observation Tower over Vista Gardens
Vista Gardens wraps around the mountain with winding paths, sculptures, and overlook points. If you have the energy, climb the observation tower. The views stretch across layers of mountains and valleysāthis alone makes Anakeesta worth the visit.
Anakeesta Christmas at night.
Anakeesta Christmas at Night & Astra Lumina
This is where Anakeesta fully transforms.
When night falls, the entire village lights up. Firepits glow, shops twinkle with warm white lights, and holiday music fills the air. It is stunning.
Astra Lumina at Anakeesta
Astra Lumina is an additional upcharge experience and requires a reservation. Itās a laser-based, celestial-themed night trail that winds through the forest using projections, lighting effects, and sound design.
Cost: About $18 per person
Walk time: Roughly 30ā40 minutes
Experience level: Fully immersive, artistic, unique
Is it beautiful? Yes.
Do I think it should be included with general admission? Also yes.
Stillāitās unlike anything youāll find in Orlando theme parks and very worth doing at least once.
Day 3: Dollywood Christmas ā What You Need to Know
This was the day I had been waiting for.
Unlike most Orlando parks, Dollywood opens laterātypically at 11amāand stays open late during Christmas. This gives you a slow, relaxed morning.
Cinnamon Bread Hack at DreamMore Resort
Hereās a secret most first-time visitors donāt know:
š You can buy Dollywoodās famous cinnamon bread at the DreamMore Resort without a park ticket.
I grabbed a loaf, sat by the fireplace, and started the day in the most Dollywood way possible.
Arriving at Dollywood: Holiday Crowds Are No Joke
Traffic into Dollywood during Christmas is heavy. This is not the time to show up at opening and expect quick entry.
My Biggest Dollywood Christmas Tip:
ā Arrive at least one hour before opening.
I didnātāand paid for it with long parking delays.
Is the TimeSaver Plus Pass Worth It at Christmas?
Short answer: Yes. Absolutely. No question.
During Christmas week:
Standby waits hit 120ā160 minutes
Even with TimeSaver Plus, waits hovered around 45 minutes
Without it, I wouldāve missed half the park.
The Dollywood Christmas Train Ride: What to Expect
The Dollywood Express steam train is one of the most iconic experiences in the parkāand during Christmas, it becomes even more popular.
Riding the Dollywood Express
Important things to know:
The train only departs on the hour
You should line up 60 minutes early
It is a real coal-burning steam engine
You will get soot in the air (wear glasses)
Despite all thatāit remains one of the best attractions at Dollywood and well worth the time investment.
Rides I Did at Dollywood During Christmas
Even with holiday crowds, I rode:
Lightning Rod
Wild Eagle
Barnstormer
Lightning Rod Coaster
Movement through the park is slow during Christmas due to foot traffic alone. Crowds funnel tightly through themed areas, so patience is required.
The Dolly Experience: Unexpected Highlight
One of the biggest surprises of the day was The Dolly Experience, which showcases Dolly Partonās entire life and career.
If youāve ever seen Walt Disney: One Manās Dream at Hollywood Studios, this feels very similar in tone and storytelling. Itās beautifully done, moving, and the perfect place to rest your feet while still feeling productive.
Should You Do Dollywood at Christmas in One Day?
Honestly?
š No.
If you can, plan two days for Dollywood Christmas if you're visiting during Thanksgiving week through Christmas week. The crowds are simply too heavy to do everything comfortably in one dayāeven with TimeSaver Plus.
Is Dollywood Christmas Better Than Orlando?
This is the question everyone asks me now.
Hereās the honest answer:
Orlando offers scale
Dollywood offers soul
Dollywood Christmas feels handmade. Personal. Traditional. Itās not about projections and IPāitās about lights, music, mountains, and warmth. And sometimes, that wins.
Final Thoughts & Who This Trip Is Best For
This trip is perfect for:
Families wanting a true Christmas destination
Theme park fans wanting something outside Orlando
Couples looking for a cozy, festive getaway

Understanding Accessibility at Universal Orlando: What Mobility Device Users Should Know in 2026
Plan a smooth visit to Universal Orlando with this helpful accessibility guide for guests using wheelchairs and mobility devices. Learn how ride transfer requirements work, what to expect in queues, and how to navigate the parks confidently in 2025.
Planning a visit to Universal Orlando is an exciting experience, whether youāre exploring Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, or preparing for the upcoming Epic Universe. For guests who use wheelchairs, scooters, or other mobility devices, knowing how accessibility works across rides, queues, restaurants, and park transportation can make the day smoother and more enjoyable.
This guide provides clear, up-to-date information on Universal Orlandoās current accessibility structure, how mobility access works on attractions, and what to expect as new rides and areas open.
How Accessibility Works at Universal Orlando
Universal Orlando offers park-wide accessibility features designed to support guests with mobility, sensory, cognitive, and medical needs. However, accessibility does not look the same across all attractions, and there are important differences between:
Queue accessibility
Ride vehicle access
Transfer requirements
Independent stability or mobility requirements
Understanding the difference between these categories is key when planning.
Queue Access
Most queues at Universal Orlando are designed to be wheelchair-friendly, meaning guests using mobility devices are able to wait in line without needing special accommodation.
Guests who cannot wait in a conventional queue due to a disability may be eligible for the Attraction Assistance Pass (AAP), which allows guests to receive a return time instead of standing in line. This system is different from mobility-only access ā wheelchair use alone does not qualify a guest for the AAP.
Ride Access vs. Ride Transfer: What This Means
While many queues are accessible, some ride vehicles do not allow guests to board while seated in a mobility device, due to:
Restraint mechanics
The physical design of the ride vehicle
Emergency evacuation route requirements
Why Some Attractions Require Independent Mobility
Some attractions, especially coasters and dark rides with dynamic motion, require guests to be able to stand, walk a short distance, or maintain body stability on their own.
This is usually linked to:
1. Evacuation Routes
High-speed coasters and suspended track attractions sometimes require:
Walking on catwalks
Crossing narrow platforms
Being secured by evacuation harness systems
Because of this, the ability to walk short distances independently during emergency evacuation may be required.
2. Restraint System Function
For attractions that rely on:
Lap bars
Shoulder harnesses
Multi-point locking systems
A guest must be able to brace their torso and maintain posture independently to remain safely oriented during motion.
3. Ride Vehicle Shape
Some newer ride vehicles are deep-set or narrow, requiring stepping down or over to load safely.
Where to Find the Most Accurate Ride Requirements
Universal publishes official Rider Safety and Accessibility Guides, available in:
Guest Services
Ride entrance posted signs
Digital park maps
Universal Orlandoās official website
For the most current information, especially as new attractions open, checking these sources before riding is the most reliable path.
About the Attraction Assistance Pass (AAP)
The Attraction Assistance Pass is intended for guests whose disability prevents them from waiting in a traditional queue.
How It Works:
The guest requests the pass at Guest Services.
A team member talks with the guest to understand their needs.
If approved, the guest receives return times for attractions.
The pass is valid for the length of stay (multi-day accommodations possible).
Important Clarification
Mobility device use alone does not qualify a guest for the AAP.
This means guests using wheelchairs or scooters who are able to wait in a queue generally do not need this pass.
Epic Universe and Future Ride Accessibility
Epic Universe, Orlandos newest park that opened in summer of 2025 is generating attention ā especially around ride access, themed land design, and mobility features. While full rider safety guides have not yet been released for Epic Universe attractions, Universal has indicated that accessibility information will be made available before the park opens.
Guests planning to visit Epic Universe should:
Check Universalās official accessibility guide online in the weeks leading up to opening day.
Review signage at ride entrances before boarding.
Ask a team member if you are unsure about transfer type or mobility requirements.
Because accessibility guidelines are tied to final ride testing and safety certification, information is sometimes finalized close to opening.
This is normal for theme parks worldwide.
Tips for Visiting Universal Orlando With a Mobility Device
1. Visit Guest Services Early in the Day
Even if you do not need the AAP, Guest Services can:
Explain transfer types for specific rides
Answer questions about wheelchair access points
Provide accessibility park maps
2. Consider Bringing a Transfer-Capable Companion
Team Members cannot physically lift or reposition guests, but they can provide guidance.
A companion can support:
Transfers into and out of ride vehicles
Carrying mobility devices to exit platforms
3. Know Which Attractions Are Most Mobility-Friendly
Shows, transportation, and interactive walk-through experiences often have smooth accessibility.
Great mobility-friendly experiences include:
The Bourne Stuntacular
E.T. Adventure (transfer available but vehicle platform is supportive)
Despicable Me Minion Mayhem (depending on seating selection)
Hogwarts Express
The Nighttime Lights shows and parades
4. Bring Charging Support for Electric Mobility Devices
The parks are large. Consider:
Portable battery packs
Charger cable and adapter
Knowing where charging outlets are located (Guest Services can map this)
Staying Informed as Policies Evolve
Discussions about accessibility in theme parks are active and ongoing within:
Disability advocacy communities
Theme park enthusiast groups
Ride engineering safety discussions
Online forums and guest experience reviews
As new attractions open, adjustments to safety guidelines and accessibility accommodations may occur. This is typical any time new ride systems, evacuation procedures, or restraint technologies are introduced.
The best source for confirmed information is always:
Universal Orlandoās Official Rider Safety & Accessibility Guide
(Updated throughout the year on Universalās website and in-park)
Final Thoughts
Universal Orlando continues to expand and evolve, and accessibility remains a key part of that progress. Whether navigating the Wizarding World, taking on high-speed coasters, or preparing to explore Epic Universe, understanding how mobility access works across the resort helps ensure every visit is enjoyable, safe, and memorable.
Guests using mobility devices are welcomed throughout Universal Orlando, and with the right planning ā plus awareness of ride transfer requirements and safety considerations ā you can fully enjoy what the parks have to offer.

10 Best Places for Thanksgiving Dinner in Orlando (That Arenāt Disney World)
This year, skip the theme park rush and discover Orlandoās best Thanksgiving dinners beyond Disney and Universal. From elegant resort buffets to cozy local gems, hereās where to enjoy a true holiday feast in the City Beautiful.
If youāre heading to Orlando this Thanksgiving, chances are youāve already mapped out a few theme park days ā maybe Magic Kingdom to see the Christmas decorations, or Islands of Adventure for a few laps on Hagridās. But when Thanksgiving Day rolls around, hereās a little advice from someone whoās spent many holidays in and around the parks:
Donāt eat your Thanksgiving dinner at Disney World.
Now, before you reach for your turkey leg, hear me out. Iāve done it ā and while Disney does a lot of things well, Thanksgiving dinner isnāt one of them.
The Disney Thanksgiving Reality Check
A few years ago, my family and I decided to have Thanksgiving dinner at the Grand Floridian CafĆ©, a restaurant thatās usually reliable for a decent sit-down meal, before a park day. I sat down, placed my order, and ā I kid you not ā our server returned three minutes later with a plate of turkey, mashed potatoes, and stuffing.
Three minutes.
Everything looked fine, and it even tasted okay. But it was clearly pre-made, plated in the back, and waiting for guests just like me. We were in and out in under 30 minutes. The entire Thanksgiving meal ā appetizer, main course, dessert ā was over before we even finished saying what theyāre thankful for.
Thatās not Thanksgiving. Thatās theme park efficiency.
So this year, if youāre in Orlando for the holidays, step outside the resort bubble. Thereās an entire city of incredible restaurants and hotel buffets that take their time, roast their turkeys properly, and let you actually savor the day.
Here are my picks for the 10 best places to have Thanksgiving dinner in Orlando, whether youāre staying near Disney, Universal, or somewhere in between.
1. Rosen Plaza Hotel ā International Driveās Holiday Classic
If Thanksgiving had a home base in Orlando, it would be the Rosen Plaza Hotel. Every year, they host an extravagant Thanksgiving buffet that feels like the old-school holiday spreads you remember as a kid ā roast turkey, honey-glazed ham, mashed potatoes, cornbread stuffing, green beans, and a dessert table that could double as a small theme park attraction.
Itās big, itās festive, and itās one of the best family-friendly options in town. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the staff genuinely make you feel like youāre part of the celebration. If youāre staying on International Drive or near Universal, itās a perfect way to trade crowds for comfort.
Why go: A classic Thanksgiving buffet with all the trimmings.
Thanksgiving Brunch in the Grand Ballroom
Thursday, November 27, 2025 | 12:30 p.m. ā 3:30 p.m.
Adults: $64.95*
Children (Ages 4-11): $29.95*
Children (Ages 3 & Under): Free
Complimentary House Wine and Champagne
Complimentary Parking | $15 Valet Parking
*Does not include 6.5% tax and 26% service charge.
2. Rosen Centre Hotel ā The Ultimate Buffet Upgrade
Just down the road, the Rosen Centre Hotel hosts its own Thanksgiving celebration at CafĆ© Osceola, and itās just as impressive. Youāll find traditional favorites like turkey and stuffing, but the buffet adds in international flavors ā peel-and-eat shrimp, pasta stations, carved prime rib, and an enormous selection of desserts.
The Rosen Centre tends to draw a slightly more upscale crowd than the Plaza, but both are equally warm and inviting. If your group includes a mix of adventurous eaters and traditionalists, this one hits the sweet spot.
Why go: Variety ā everything from classic turkey to seafood to prime rib.
Thanksgiving Brunch at CafƩ Gauguin
Thursday, November 27, 2025 | 11 a.m. ā 6:30 p.m.
Adults: $72.95*
Children (Ages 4-11): $34.95*

*Does not include 6.5% tax and 26% service charge.
For reservations, call (407) 996-3969
3. Waldorf Astoria Orlando ā A Feast Fit for a Resort King
If you still want to keep things elegant and within striking distance of Disney property, the Waldorf Astoria Orlando is the way to do it. Youāll find three distinct Thanksgiving experiences here:
Bull & Bear offers a four-course fine dining Thanksgiving dinner ā think truffle-laced mashed potatoes and roasted turkey roulade. This dining experience includes an extensive, traditional holiday meal with all the trimmings. $120 per adult; $60 per child 12 years of age and younger. Tax and gratuity are additional. View the menu here.
Oscarās Brasserie hosts a full holiday buffet with an enormous carving station and seafood spread. $80 per adult, $40 per child 6-12 years of age. Tax and gratuity are additional. Reservations are required: 407-597-5483. View the menu here.
Harvest Bistro serves a slightly more casual buffet for families. $68 per person and $34 per child 6-12 years of age. Tax and gratuity are additional. View the menu here.
Itās luxurious, quiet, and feels miles away from the chaos of the parks.
Why go: The most elegant holiday dining near Disney without being too Disney.
4. The Boheme ā Downtown Orlandoās Classy Holiday Dinner
Downtown Orlandoās Grand Bohemian Hotel is home to The Boheme, one of the cityās most stylish restaurants. For Thanksgiving, they typically offer both a brunch buffet and a prix fixe dinner menu with elevated takes on the classics.
If your ideal Thanksgiving includes live jazz, champagne, and art-covered walls, this is your spot. The downtown setting is also great if you want to stroll Lake Eola afterward and enjoy the city lights instead of Main Street crowds.
Why go: Chic, artsy vibe and incredible food ā great for couples or smaller groups.
5. Canvas Restaurant + Market ā A Local Gem in Lake Nona
Far from the tourist zones of I-Drive and Disney, Canvas is one of Orlandoās best-kept secrets. Each year, they roll out a special Thanksgiving menu alongside their regular offerings. Expect farm-to-table flavors, roasted turkey, and sides with a creative twist ā things like maple-glazed carrots and house-made cranberry chutney.
The atmosphere feels more like a neighborhood gathering than a hotel buffet, which makes it ideal for visitors who want to experience a real Orlando Thanksgiving.
Why go: Local charm, chef-driven food, and scenic lakeside views.
6. Chroma Modern Bar + Kitchen ā Creative, Seasonal, and Modern
Also in Lake Nona, Chroma Modern Bar + Kitchen is the kind of place where the menu changes with the seasons ā and Thanksgiving gives their chefs a perfect excuse to show off.
You might find butternut squash soup with cinnamon crème fraîche, roasted turkey breast with sage gravy, or pumpkin mousse for dessert. Everything is modern, balanced, and plated beautifully.
If youāre the type who likes Thanksgiving with a contemporary flair (and a craft cocktail in hand), this is where youāll want to be.
Why go: Modern menu, creative cocktails, and a stylish atmosphere.
7. CafĆ© Tu Tu Tango ā Thanksgiving with a Twist
If youāre looking for something more lively and less formal, CafĆ© Tu Tu Tango on International Drive throws one of the most fun Thanksgiving brunches in town.
Their āThanksgiving Bottomless Brunchā includes carving stations, tapas-style plates, and endless mimosas. Thereās live art, upbeat music, and a festive energy that makes it feel more like a celebration than a traditional sit-down meal.
Itās not your grandmotherās Thanksgiving ā and thatās exactly what makes it great.
Why go: Fun, festive, and perfect for groups of friends or adults traveling without kids.
8. Caribe Royale ā The Venetian Chop Houseās Chef-Driven Holiday Dinner
Inside the Caribe Royale resort, The Venetian Chop House offers a refined, multi-course Thanksgiving dinner that blends classic flavors with steakhouse quality. Youāll find things like pumpkin bisque, roasted turkey with herb gravy, and even filet mignon for those who want something a bit different.
The resort atmosphere adds a touch of elegance without feeling pretentious. Itās a fantastic choice for families who want a mix of tradition and sophistication. $78 for adults, $25 for ages 10 and under.
Why go: Elevated Thanksgiving dinner with excellent service and atmosphere.
9. Del Friscoās Double Eagle Steakhouse ā For the Turkey-Averse
If turkey just isnāt your thing, or youād rather swap stuffing for steak, Del Friscoās Double Eagle Steakhouse offers the perfect escape from tradition. They stay open on Thanksgiving and add holiday specials to their regular menu, so you can order a beautifully seared filet mignon and still enjoy a slice of pumpkin cheesecake at the end.
The dining room feels elegant but comfortable, and the service is as polished as youād expect from one of Orlandoās top steakhouses.
Why go: A Thanksgiving feast for people whoād rather celebrate with steak and wine.
10. Seasons 52 ā A Reliable, Cozy Favorite
Rounding out the list is Seasons 52 in the Dr. Phillips area, near Sand Lake Roadās āRestaurant Row.ā Every year, they serve a prix fixe Thanksgiving menu alongside their regular seasonal dishes, complete with roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and pumpkin pie.
Itās upscale but approachable ā a great balance between the grandeur of the resorts and the energy of the parks. You can dress up a little or keep it casual, and the service is always attentive.
Why go: Consistent quality and a cozy, holiday atmosphere.
Why You Should Dine Outside the Parks
Hereās the thing about Thanksgiving at Disney World or Universal: itās convenient, but not memorable. The food often comes pre-made, plated in bulk, and served lightning fast to turn tables for the next wave of guests.
Outside the parks, restaurants take the time to craft meals that feel like Thanksgiving should ā warm, unhurried, and personal. Youāll find actual carving stations, family-style service, and desserts that taste homemade rather than prepackaged.
You can sit, relax, and actually have a conversation that lasts longer than your meal.
And perhaps most importantly, when you dine in the real Orlando ā away from the turnstiles ā youāll get a sense of what locals already know: this city has a thriving food scene thatās just as magical as any theme park.
Tips for Dining Out on Thanksgiving in Orlando
Book early. These restaurants fill up quickly, especially the buffets and resort venues.
Ask about pricing. Many Thanksgiving menus are prix fixe and range from $50ā$120 per person depending on the restaurant.
Mind the dress code. Fine dining spots like Bull & Bear or The Boheme lean formal, while Lake Nona and I-Drive options are more casual.
Check parking and location. If youāre staying near Disney, the Rosen hotels and Waldorf Astoria are easy drives. Lake Nona is about 30 minutes from the parks but worth it for something local.
Be patient. Thanksgiving in Orlando is busy ā but these spots take pride in making sure the experience feels special, not rushed.
The Bottom Line
Thanksgiving in Orlando doesnāt have to be another hurried, pre-made plate served under the glow of a theme park chandelier.
Step outside the gates this year, slow down, and experience what real Orlando hospitality tastes like ā whether itās a lavish buffet at the Rosen Plaza, an elegant feast at the Waldorf, or a cozy local meal in Lake Nona.
Youāll get the flavors of the holiday and the feeling of it too ā which is something no Lightning Lane can buy.

The Best Orlando Vacations You Can Take for $5,000
Can you take a premium Orlando vacation for under $5,000? I compared real 2025 prices for Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, Royal Caribbean, and Disney Cruise Line to see which offers families the most magic for their money.
Which Vacation wins?
If youāve ever tried to plan an Orlando vacation lately, you know the sticker shock is real. Between theme park tickets, hotel rates, and food costs, that āfamily trip of a lifetimeā can quickly feel like a luxury purchase. So I wanted to find out ā can you still have a premium Orlando vacation for around $5,000?
To answer that, I did the research myself and compared four very different ways to spend a family vacation in Central Florida: Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, Royal Caribbean, and Disney Cruise Line. Each one came in right around $5,000, but the experiences couldnāt be more different.
š„ Watch the full video here: The Best Orlando Vacations You Can Take for $5,000
What a $5,000 Orlando vacation looks like.
Disney Cruise Line: The Disney Wish
Letās start at sea. I priced out a 3-night sailing aboard the Disney Wish leaving July 3 from Port Canaveral, visiting Nassau and Castaway Cay. This was for a family of four in an interior room on Deck 2 midship, totaling $5,032.32.
And yes ā thatās over $5,000 for just three nights. But before you scroll away, remember that Disney Cruises are nearly all-inclusive. Youāre getting top-notch entertainment, themed dining, Broadway-style shows, and private island access at Castaway Cay. For families who want Disney-level service and character experiences without tackling the parks, this is a compact, premium option.
If you want a longer cruise, I also checked a 4-night version of this same itinerary sailing July 6, which came out to $7,017, and a 7-night Disney Treasure sailing starting July 4, totaling $10,287. Clearly, the three-night cruise fits that $5,000 budget best ā but youāll have to decide if that short trip is worth the cost.
Universal Orlando Resort: Stella Nova, Cabana Bay, or Royal Pacific
Next, I compared Universal Orlando, where the newest park, Epic Universe, is set to change the game in 2025.
For this comparison, I looked at a 6-night stay from July 5ā11 at the brand-new Stella Nova Resort, which is Universalās newest Prime Value hotel. It came out to $4,882.53 including 5-day Park-to-Park tickets for the whole family.
Universalās Royal Pacific Resort comes with Free Express Passes to Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure.
Stella Nova is located just minutes from Epic Universe and connected by a dedicated busway that makes getting around incredibly easy. You can hop from your room to the parks in minutes without ever driving or dealing with parking.
If you want to upgrade, Cabana Bay Beach Resort gives you access to its retro-themed pools and lazy river, while Royal Pacific Resort ā a Premier hotel ā includes Express Passes for every guest, letting you skip most lines.
Universal gives you a mix of flexibility and thrills, with enough options to fit a familyās comfort level and still stay close to the new park everyoneās talking about.
Royal Caribbean: Utopia of the Seas
Now letās talk cruising ā but this time with Royal Caribbean. I compared a 4-night Utopia of the Seas sailing departing July 7 from Port Canaveral, visiting Nassau and Perfect Day at CocoCay, Royal Caribbeanās private island. The total? $4,998 for an interior room for four guests.
Utopia of the Seas and her passengers spend the day at Nassau, Bahamas.
The thing that stands out with Royal Caribbean is just how much is included. Youāve got meals, shows, and entertainment all covered. The kids can hit the water slides or surf simulators while you relax at the adults-only pool or grab a cocktail on the Boardwalk.
Royal Caribbean delivers a floating resort experience that feels truly all-inclusive ā and for the same price as a mid-level Orlando theme park trip, itās hard to argue with the value.
If your family likes adventure and freedom rather than sticking to a schedule, this oneās tough to beat.
Walt Disney World: The Gold Standard
Finally, weāve got the one and only Walt Disney World. I priced two realistic options for a 6-night stay from July 6ā12 for a family of four.
A Mears bus arrives at Disneyās Beach Club Resort with passengers ready to start their Disney World vacation.
Option one: Pop Century Resort, one of Disneyās Value properties, came out to $4,986.10 with 6-day park tickets and the Quick Service Dining Plan included. Pop Century is perfect for families who want to be surrounded by Disney theming, easy Skyliner access to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios, and predictable pricing.
Option two: Coronado Springs Resort, a beautiful Moderate hotel with Spanish-inspired architecture, came out to $5,007.65 for the same dates and tickets. Youāll get upgraded dining, larger rooms, and a more relaxed resort vibe ā but without losing access to all the perks, like Early Theme Park Entry and extended evening hours at select parks.
When you factor in the park experiences, transportation, dining, and resort atmosphere, Disney World ends up being the most complete and balanced vacation on the list. Itās the one destination that gives you full control over your budget and daily experience ā whether youāre rope-dropping Magic Kingdom or just taking it slow by the pool.
So Which Vacation Wins?
All four options are amazing in their own way ā it just depends on what kind of family you are.
If you love characters, storytelling, and all-inclusive comfort, Disney Cruise Line is unmatched.
If youāre all about thrills and new attractions, Universal Orlando and Epic Universe will be irresistible.
If you want everything wrapped into one floating resort, Royal Caribbean gives you the most bang for your buck.
And if you want that iconic Orlando experience, Walt Disney World still reigns supreme ā especially with the dining plan returning.
So yes ā a $5,000 premium Orlando vacation is absolutely possible. You just have to pick your flavor of magic.
To see the full comparison, breakdowns, and rankings, check out my new YouTube video below ā and decide which Orlando vacation your family would choose.

Universal Orlando Ride Closures & Refurbishments Through 2026: What You Need to Know
Heading to Universal Orlando soon? Hereās the 2025ā2026 list of confirmed ride closures and refurbishments, including Hollywood Rip Ride Rockitās final season and the year-long Jurassic Park River Adventure overhaul.
When planning a visit to Universal Orlando in 2025 or 2026, itās crucial to know which attractions will be offline and for how long. In this article, we cover confirmed ride closures, refurbishment windows, and the known reasons behind themājust for the Orlando resort. All information is drawn from Universalās announced calendars and reputable theme-park news sites.
Major Permanent Closure
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit ā Universal Studios Florida
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has permanently closed on August 18, 2025.
- Its final day of operation was August 17, 2025.
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has permanently closed on Aug. 18, 2025, to make way for a new experience.
- The park has not yet disclosed detailed plans for the replacement, but filings suggest a new āAmusement Rideā (Project 830) may be built on the same footprint.
- Demolition and site prep are expected to begin immediately after closure.
Reason / context: This is a full removal, not a temporary refurb. It signals that Universal Orlando is reclaiming prime ride real estate to introduce something newālikely a modern, high-capacity attraction that better fits future guest demand.
Major Refurbishment
Jurassic Park River Adventure (Islands of Adventure)
- Universal Orlando has scheduled a nearly 11-month refurbishment of Jurassic Park River Adventure, from January 5, 2026 to November 19, 2026.
- Universal describes it as āplanned maintenance.ā
- This will be one of the longest single-ride closures at Universal Orlando in recent memory.
Likely reasons / what may be done:
- Water rides like this endure heavy wear from pumps, hydraulics, and constant moisture exposure.
- Universal may replace or refurbish water delivery systems, control systems, ride vehicles, show elements, and electrical infrastructure.
- The length of closure suggests deep mechanical overhauls and upgraded animatronics or show scenes.
Because this closure is already confirmed, treat it as certain when planning your 2026 trip.
Other Temporary & Short Refurbishments
Universal Orlando periodically shuts down rides for shorter periods for maintenance and technical upgrades. These are usually planned and less disruptive. Current patterns include:
- Dudley Do-Rightās Ripsaw Falls (Islands of Adventure): Historically closed in October for maintenance.
- Popeye & Blutoās Bilge-Rat Barges: Often closed for a month or so from February to March for refurbishments.
- Jurassic Park River Adventure: Minor closures in prior years (e.g., January 2025) for routine work.
These short-term closures usually last from a few days to a few weeks and are intended to keep rides safe and reliable.
Why Rides Close: The Underlying Logic
1. Maintenance & Safety Compliance
All rides need regular inspection, part replacement, and safety system upgrades. Short-term closures let the parks maintain compliance, reduce wear, and catch issues early.
2. Deep Refurbishment & Overhaul
When systems ageāespecially in water ridesāthe park needs extended downtime to replace major components. The Jurassic Park River Adventure refurbishment is the perfect example.
3. Redevelopment & Replacement
The Rip Ride Rockit removal is more than just upkeep. Universal is making strategic land-use decisions to improve guest flow and introduce next-generation experiences with stronger intellectual property ties.
4. Operational Efficiency & Guest Demand
Underperforming or maintenance-intensive rides may be retired so Universal can reinvest in attractions that deliver higher throughput and guest satisfaction.
What This Means for Guests & Itinerary Planning
- Ride ālast chancesā early. If you want to experience Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, plan your trip before August 2025 and ride it early in the day.
- Mind the 2026 blackout on Jurassic Park River Adventure. In 2026, this headline attraction will be offline for almost the entire year.
- Prioritize must-see attractions early. When closures are announced, visit them at park open to avoid schedule surprises.
- Use downtime to explore alternate experiences. When a major ride is closed, crowd patterns shiftātake advantage of shorter waits elsewhere.
- Watch for replacement announcements. Universal typically reveals a new attraction soon after retiring a major one. Keep an eye on official news outlets.
Summary Table: Universal Orlando Closures & Refurbishments (2025ā2026)
| Attraction | Park / Land | Closure Type | Closure Window | Notes / Reason |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit | Universal Studios Florida | Permanent removal | August 18, 2025 (final ride Aug 17) | Closing to make way for a new attraction; replacement unannounced |
| Jurassic Park River Adventure | Islands of Adventure | Major refurbishment | Jan 5, 2026 ā Nov 19, 2026 | Extensive mechanical and show system overhaul |
| Dudley Do-Rightās Ripsaw Falls | Islands of Adventure | Temporary | Typically mid-Oct (varies) | Routine maintenance |
| Popeye & Blutoās Bilge-Rat Barges | Islands of Adventure | Temporary | Typically FebāMar | Seasonal refurbishment |
| Jurassic Park River Adventure | Islands of Adventure | Temporary (past) | Jan 6 ā Jan 23, 2025 | Routine maintenance in prior years |
Final Thoughts
Focusing exclusively on Universal Orlando, the key takeaways for 2025ā2026 are clear:
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is permanently shutting down in August 2025. Ride it before then if itās on your list.
- Jurassic Park River Adventure will be offline for most of 2026 for major upgradesāplan accordingly.
- Other refurbishments will be short-term and focused on routine safety and upkeep.
Keeping track of these changes can help you make the most of your visit. Check Universal Orlandoās official refurbishment calendar regularly, and stay tuned for future announcements about new attractions that will redefine the parkās skyline in the years ahead.

Celebrate the Holidays at Universal Orlandoās Epic Universe: A Complete Planning Guide
Experience Universal Orlandoās newest park like never before! Our complete 2025 holiday guide to Epic Universe covers seasonal dĆ©cor, dining, itineraries, and insider tips for a magical winter visit.
Celebrate the Holidays at Epic Universe: Your Ultimate 2025 Guide
The 2025 holiday season marks a landmark moment ā itās the very first time Epic Universe will fully participate in Universal Orlandoās winter festivities. From November 21, 2025 through January 4, 2026, guests can find seasonal magic woven into select corners of this newly opened park. This guide dives deep into what to expect in each land, how best to experience the holiday atmosphere, itinerary ideas, insider tips, and what may come in future years. Letās unwrap the holidays at Epic Universe.
Overview: Holiday Season Dates & Whatās Confirmed
Dates: November 21, 2025 ā January 4, 2026 (resort-wide holiday season)
Epic Universe Participation: For the first time, Epic Universe will be part of Universalās holiday celebrations.
Confirmed Decor Locations:
āā⢠Celestial Park will feature seasonal lighting and decorations.
āā⢠The Wizarding World ā Ministry of Magic (Epic Universe version) will be adorned with festive garlands, lights, and themed dĆ©cor.Other Landsā Status:
āā⢠Super Nintendo World has not been confirmed to receive a holiday overlay in this first season; Universal may delay decorations until later years.
āā⢠Dark Universe is a land with moody aesthetic that could lend itself to a darker twist on holiday theming, though full details are unconfirmed.
āā⢠Isle of Berk (How to Train Your Dragon) likewise has no confirmed seasonal transformation this year.
In short: your holiday experience at Epic Universe will center primarily in Celestial Park and the Ministry of Magic land, with the rest of the park delivering its usual immersive attractions without (yet) a full seasonal overlay.
Meet the Lands: Holiday Highlights & What to Explore
Below is a breakdown of how each of the five Epic Universe lands mayāor may notātransform during the holiday season, plus tips for making the most of them.
Celestial Park ā The Festive Hub
As the central āworld between worlds,ā Celestial Park is the beating heart of Epic Universe. This season, it will serve as the parkās holiday anchor.
Expect sweeping architectural lighting: building faƧades, walkways, archways, and garden features will be lit up with seasonal accents.
The portal areas and paths leading to other lands may be lined with garlands, stylized wreaths, and tasteful winter motifs.
Celestial Park already boasts more than seven million individually-controllable embedded LEDs in its design. Those lights may be incorporated into holiday lighting sequences or shows.
Photo opportunities: at sunset and after dark, Celestial Park may become one of the most striking areas to pause and capture the illuminated ambiance.
If you plan carefully, Celestial Park might serve as a relaxing central zone to revisit at night when crowds thin and the holiday lighting feels most magical.
The Wizarding World ā Ministry of Magic (Epic Universe)
This version of the Wizarding World is one of the feature draws for holiday theming in the park.
Expect classic wizarding dƩcor: garlands, glowing lights, Magical touches that tie into the lore of the Ministry and wizarding winter aesthetics.
Seasonal merchandise: anticipate exclusive holiday or winter-themed wizarding souvenirs, ornaments, and specialty apparel in Ministry shops.
Seasonal treats: hot Butterbeer (or seasonal variants), bakery items, and winter-inspired sweets may be available in this land just as they are in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade elsewhere in the resort.
Enchanted ambiance: while large-scale shows (like projection mapping) are not yet confirmed in Epic Universeās Wizarding World, expect lighting cues, mood music, and themed sensory touches to heighten the holiday feel.
If youāre a fan of the Wizarding World, this land offers perhaps the richest holiday overlay in Epic Universe this year.
Super Nintendo World
As one of Universalās highly-IPād lands, Super Nintendo World is a visual and interactive space. However:
In other Universal parks, Nintendo lands often wait until a second year before introducing seasonal overlays.
That suggests for 2025, Super Nintendo World may remain in its ābaseā theming, relying perhaps on subtle seasonal lighting (if any) or themed snacks rather than full decorative transformations.
Still, itās a fun and lively land year-round: take advantage of interactive elements, character interactions, and game-style encounters while exploring the rest of the parkās holiday overlay.
Dark Universe
With its gothic, monster-lore aesthetic, Dark Universe presents interesting possibilities for holiday theming. For this inaugural season:
Full holiday dƩcor is unconfirmed.
Creative holiday contrasts may emerge: moody snow, subtle lighting, thematic twists on winter folklore, or darker holiday motifs (think old-world European winter) might be stealthy enhancements rather than bold transformations.
Even without a heavy seasonal overlay, Dark Universe still offers immersive environments and rides that contrast sharply with the bright holiday dĆ©cor elsewhere ā which can create a compelling and varied āholiday through darknessā experience.
Isle of Berk (How to Train Your Dragon)
This Viking-inspired land is another contender for eventual seasonal theming, though not confirmed in Year 1.
No official holiday transformation is listed yet.
In future years, Universal could introduce "Snoggletog"-style winter touches (borrowing from the source materialās winter festival) ā snow-dusted lanterns, themed treats, or festive dragon lighting displays.
For 2025, enjoy the land in its default immersive state, and use adjacency to Celestial Park or Ministry for your seasonal moments.
How to Plan Your Epic Universe Holiday Visit
Tickets, Access, & Timing
Epic Universe opened May 22, 2025.
At the current stage, multi-day Universal Orlando tickets include one day of admission to Epic Universe. Universal Destinations & Experiences+2Undercover Tourist+2
A single-day Epic Universe ticket price starts around $139 (before extras).
Because only one Epic Universe day is typically included, plan your holiday-overlay day strategically and combine it with visits to the other parks.
Arrive early (park opening / ārope dropā) to experience the holiday dĆ©cor in quieter conditions before crowds swell.
Itinerary Suggestions (Holiday-Focused)
Hereās a sample 3-day itinerary that maximizes the holiday experience inside the park.
DayMorningAfternoonEvening / NightDay A ā Holiday Debut at EpicArrive at opening, head straight to Celestial Park to enjoy the holiday lighting and architecture before midday.Explore the Ministry of Magic land with seasonal decor and treats. Ride signature attractions in other lands.Return to Celestial Park and Wizarding World after sunset to absorb the illumination. End your night with a slower-paced stroll.Day B ā Revisit Favorites & Photo OpsReenter early. Focus on Dark Universe and Isle of Berk (for contrast) while holiday crowds concentrate in the decorated zones.Leisurely lunch in a themed dining location; revisit favorite rides or hidden corners.Return to Celestial Park near dusk for images, then exit through portal areas lit beautifully.Day C ā Flex / Rest & RecapOptional reentry (if your ticket allows) to revisit your top holiday moments.Shopping, holiday merchandise hunting, and relaxing in quieter parts of the park.Depart with a final evening stroll under festive lights in Celestial or Ministry.
Best Times & Crowd Strategies
Visit during weekdays in late November or early December (before holiday break crowds).
Use the Universal Orlando app to monitor wait times and plan visits to the decorated lands when lines are lowest.
Reserve any available dining or experience slots early, especially in Ministry or Celestial restaurants.
In the evening, some parts of the park (especially Celestial Park) may feel more peaceful as guests depart ā thatās your moment.
Holiday Extras, Merchandise & Dining Highlights
Seasonal Dining & Treats
While Universal has not published a full holiday menu for Epic Universe, you can expect:
Seasonal drink offers like hot Butterbeer variants or winter-themed beverages in Ministry.
Festive desserts (cupcakes, cookies, specialty confections) in Celestial Park eateries and bakery-style venues.
Themed decor in dining areas ā garlands, subtle lighting, and cozy touches in restaurants near holiday zones.
Merchandise & Keepsakes
Limited-edition holiday ornaments, clothing, and keepsakes tied to Ministry and Celestial dƩcor will likely be featured in shops within those lands.
Even in non-decorated lands, guests may find subtler seasonal variants of popular merchandise.
Be early: holiday merchandise tends to sell out, especially in the themed zones.
Photo Opportunities & Lighting Moments
Celestial Park at dusk and nighttime is your prime photo zone, with architectural lighting and seasonal hues.
Ministry of Magic walkways draped in garlands provide atmospheric frames for pictures.
Portal archways and transitions between lands may be accentuated with light effects.
Capture moments before crowds fully fill the park ā early evening or just before closing can be ideal.
What This Year Tells Us ā And Whatās Next
This inaugural season at Epic Universe is part of Universalās broader holiday expansion.
The holiday inclusion is not merely additive dĆ©cor ā Universal is using this moment to enhance and evolve the guest experience in this new park.
In future seasons, expect holiday overlays to expand deeper into all lands, including Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, and Isle of Berk.
Because Epic Universe is designed to evolve, this first holiday run sets expectations: holiday lighting, mood, seasonal dining, and immersive touches will likely scale each year.
Final Tips & What to Watch For
Check for official announcements close to November ā Universal may reveal additional shows, lighting sequences, or holiday-specific entertainment.
Focus your holiday day on Celestial Park and Ministry ā those are your best bets for festive immersion.
Balance thrill and ambiance ā use quieter times to enjoy less-decorated lands while crowds cluster in holiday zones.
Stay late ā evening illumination in Celestial Park and Ministry will be one of your most magical memories.
Bring a good camera or smartphone ā holiday lighting makes for dramatic visuals.
Be flexible ā since not every land is decorated yet, adjust your plan on the fly based on crowd flow and lighting conditions.
Watch for seasonal enhancements in future years ā if you visit again, expect even more holiday presence across Epic Universe.
Epic Universeās debut holiday season may not yet be a full winter wonderland across every land, but it promises a fresh, inspired take on holiday magic. With festive lighting in Celestial Park, immersive dĆ©cor in the Ministry, and the contrast of the parkās unadorned lands, your holiday visit will feel unique and original.

Universal Retires TapuTapu Wristbands at Volcano Bay: What It Means for Guests
Universal Orlando has officially retired its TapuTapu wristbands and virtual lines at Volcano Bay. Discover why the wearable tech is being phased out, what replaces it, and how this change will affect your next visit in 2025 and beyond.
Universal Orlando has officially confirmed that TapuTapu wristbands ā the waterproof wearables used for virtual queues and interactive features at Volcano Bay ā have been retired as of October 1, 2025. This change ends an eight-year run for one of Universalās most innovative systems and marks a major shift in how guests will experience the water theme park.
If youāre planning a visit, hereās what this decision means, why itās happening, and how you can prepare for the new experience at Volcano Bay.
What TapuTapu Was ā and Why It Mattered
When Volcano Bay opened in 2017, Universal introduced TapuTapu as a signature innovation designed to eliminate long lines and make the park more interactive. The wristband was waterproof, free for every guest, and linked seamlessly to the parkās digital infrastructure.
Hereās what TapuTapu offered before its retirement:
TapTu Ride (Virtual Line): Guests tapped their wristband at ride totems to reserve a return time. The band would vibrate when it was time to ride, letting guests relax or enjoy other areas instead of waiting in a physical queue.
TapTu Play: Interactive points around the park allowed guests to activate water jets, lighting effects, or tiki-themed surprises just by tapping the band.
TapTu Pay: The band could be linked to a payment method in the Universal Orlando app, letting guests make cashless purchases for food, drinks, or merchandise.
TapTu Snap: Certain ride and photo-op stations automatically connected to your TapuTapu, uploading photos to your account.
Locker Access: TapuTapu served as a key to park and cabana lockers, reducing the need to carry keys or cards around the park.
The system was meant to blend convenience and creativity ā and for many guests, it worked beautifully. TapuTapu quickly became a defining feature of Volcano Bay, setting it apart from other water parks.
Why Universal Is Retiring TapuTapu
Universal has not released a detailed official statement about why TapuTapu is being retired. However, based on statements to media outlets and coverage by Inside Universal, Orlando Informer, and TouringPlans, several contributing factors are likely.
1. Technical and Maintenance Challenges
Operating a park-wide system with thousands of wearables is expensive and complex. Guests occasionally reported connectivity issues, trouble linking accounts, or wristbands falling off during slides. Maintaining the devices, sensors, and totems added ongoing costs and downtime for technical fixes.
2. Simplifying Operations
Starting October 1, 2025, Universal shifted Volcano Bay to traditional standby queues. Instead of reserving return times, guests now simply join the physical line for each attraction.
While this seems like a step backward, it simplifies crowd management and reduces the risk of glitches that can disrupt the guest experience. For many visitors, especially first-timers, the system will now feel more familiar and straightforward.
3. Preparing for Upcoming Refurbishments
Volcano Bay is scheduled for an extended closure from October 26, 2026 through March 24, 2027 for routine maintenance and refurbishment. The timing suggests Universal might be using this transition period to reevaluate or redesign certain systems ā possibly introducing new app-based or touchless technologies in the future.
4. Guest Feedback
Although TapuTapu was innovative, not all guests loved it. Some found the interface confusing, or felt limited when they could hold only one virtual line at a time. Moving to a simpler, more predictable standby model may align better with guest expectations in the long run.
Whatās Changing at Volcano Bay
With TapuTapu gone, several core features of Volcano Bay are evolving. Hereās a breakdown of what to expect if youāre visiting after October 1, 2025.
A. Standby Queues Replace Virtual Lines
Guests now access each attraction directly ā no reservations, no return windows. Youāll simply wait in a physical line. This change eliminates the āwait while you playā freedom TapuTapu offered but ensures more transparency in wait times.
B. Interactive Features Still Exist ā Without the Band
Many of the playful TapTu Play elements remain, but now guests activate them manually. Buttons or sensors near those locations trigger effects like water sprays or tiki animations, preserving the fun without the wearable tech.
C. Locker Access Is Being Simplified
Universal has reworked locker access for the post-TapuTapu era. Guests now rent lockers using kiosks or attendants, and access methods vary by location. Universal has not detailed whether any replacement bands or codes will be issued; for now, expect a standard digital or physical locker process similar to other water parks.
D. Cashless Payments Move to Mobile and Card
TapTu Pay has been discontinued. Guests can now use credit cards, mobile wallets, or Universalās official app for payments throughout the park.
E. Photo Collection Now Manual
Ride and on-site photos can still be captured, but guests must scan or link them manually to their Universal account or Photo Connect card. Automatic uploads via TapuTapu are no longer available.
Pros and Cons of the Change
Removing TapuTapu brings both benefits and drawbacks for guests and operators.
Pros
Smoother Operations:
Without thousands of devices to maintain and sync, park operations become less complex and more reliable.Lower Maintenance Costs:
Universal no longer needs to repair or replace wearable hardware or maintain specialized network equipment.Predictable Queues:
Standby lines allow for more traditional crowd flow and better capacity forecasting during peak days.Opportunity for Future Tech:
By retiring an aging proprietary system, Universal frees itself to develop new, app-based queue tools or next-generation wearable tech.Cons
Loss of Convenience:
Guests lose the ability to āwait virtuallyā and explore the park between rides ā one of Volcano Bayās biggest perks.Potentially Longer Waits:
Without virtual queuing, guests may spend more time standing in physical lines during busy periods.Reduced āWow Factorā:
TapuTapu was an experiential differentiator. Its removal could make Volcano Bay feel more like a conventional water park.Guest Confusion During Transition:
Regular visitors who expect TapuTapu might be surprised or frustrated to find it gone, especially early in the changeover period. How to Plan Your Visit Now
If youāre visiting Volcano Bay after October 2025, these strategies will help you make the most of your day:
Arrive Early:
The first two hours after opening typically have the shortest waits. Head straight for headliners like Krakatau Aqua Coaster or Koāokiri Body Plunge.Check the Universal Orlando App:
Even without TapuTapu, the Universal app lists live wait times, show schedules, and park maps ā all critical for smart navigation.Use Mobile Pay or Bring a Waterproof Wallet:
Since TapTu Pay is gone, set up Apple Pay, Google Pay, or carry a waterproof lanyard wallet for convenience.Plan Breaks Strategically:
Without virtual queues, take breaks during midday peaks (usually 11 a.m.ā3 p.m.) when waits are longest.Consider Staying On-Site:
Guests at Universalās on-site hotels get early park admission, which is especially valuable now that everyone joins standby lines.Stay Informed:
Universal may test or introduce new digital queue tools before or after the 2026-2027 refurbishment. Keep an eye on official announcements. Why This Change Might Actually Be a Smart Move
While some fans are understandably disappointed, there are several reasons this move may make long-term sense:
Reliability Over Novelty:
TapuTapu was ambitious but occasionally buggy. A simpler model reduces tech headaches and guest complaints.Operational Reset Before Epic Universe Opens (2025):
With Universalās new park, Epic Universe, debuting in 2025, streamlining operations at existing parks helps focus attention and resources on the expansion.Flexibility for Future Systems:
Removing TapuTapu clears the way for Universal to experiment with mobile-based queue systems similar to Disneyās Genie+ or to adopt more modern wearable technology later. The Future of Volcano Bay
Volcano Bayās planned closure from October 26, 2026 through March 24, 2027 is officially described as a seasonal refurbishment ā standard for water parks, but the longest in Volcano Bayās history. No new attractions have been announced yet, but the extended downtime could signal broader updates to park infrastructure or systems.
Given Universalās track record of innovation, itās reasonable to expect that TapuTapuās retirement isnāt the end of technological enhancements ā just a reset before something more advanced arrives.
Final Thoughts
The end of TapuTapu marks the close of an era for Volcano Bay. For years, the little waterproof wristband represented the cutting edge of theme-park design ā a promise that technology could replace waiting with freedom.
Now, Universal is pivoting toward simplicity, reliability, and preparation for the parkās next chapter. Whether you view the move as a step backward or a strategic refresh, it reflects a broader trend in theme-park operations: balancing innovation with practicality.
For guests, the takeaway is clear ā Volcano Bay will still deliver its tropical thrills and immersive environment, just without the tech on your wrist.

Riding the Brightline Train from Orlando: A Complete Guide for Florida Travelers
Discover what itās like to ride Brightline from Orlando to Aventura. From Premium Lounges to high-speed comfort, this is Florida travel reimagined. Watch my full journey on YouTube!
A New Way to Travel in Florida
If youāre planning a Florida vacation, youāve probably already thought about flights, rental cars, and even driving yourself around the state. But what if I told you thereās a high-speed train that makes travel between Orlando and South Florida not only easierābut way more enjoyable?
A northbound Brightline train arrives at Aventura for an afternoon run to Orlando.
Thatās exactly what Brightline offers. This sleek, modern train service connects Orlando with cities like Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Aventura, reaching speeds up to 125 mph. For family vacationers, Orlando travelers, and anyone who loves theme parks and cruises, Brightline is quickly becoming one of the best ways to get around Florida.
I recently took the Brightline from Orlando to Aventura, and I filmed the entire experience so you can see exactly what itās like. Spoiler alert: it feels less like a train ride and more like flying business class on the ground. You can watch my full journey here š
š Watch the full Brightline Orlando to Aventura experience on YouTube
šļø Starting at the Brightline Orlando Station
My trip began at the brand-new Brightline Orlando Station, located at Orlando International Airport. If youāre flying into Orlando for a Disney World or Universal Orlando vacation, this is incredibly convenientāyou can land, grab your luggage, and head straight for the train without ever stepping outside.
The station itself feels more like an airport terminal than a train station. Itās spacious, modern, and built with travelers in mind. Thereās plenty of seating, a check-in process thatās smooth and easy, and if youāve booked Premium Class, youāll have access to the Premium Lounge, which is a game-changer.
š· Inside the Brightline Premium Lounge
Brightline has two ticket options: Smart Class (their standard option) and Premium Class, which offers a more elevated travel experience. Since I wanted to see what all the hype was about, I opted for Premium.
Breakfast offerings at the Premium Lounge at the Brightline Orlando Train Station
The Premium Lounge in Orlando was impressive. Comfortable seating, complimentary snacks and drinks (yes, even wine and beer), and a quiet place to relax before boarding. If youāre traveling with kids, itās also a lifesaver because it gives everyone space to decompress before hopping on the train.
This lounge alone already had me feeling like I was about to fly, not take a train.
š All Aboard: The Brightline Train Experience
When it was time to board, the process was simple. Premium passengers board first, and the staff made everything easy. Walking into the Premium car, the first thing I noticed was how spacious and comfortable the seating was compared to what you might expect from a traditional train.
Seats: Wide, cushioned, and designed for comfort
Legroom: Plenty of space, even if youāre tall
Service: Complimentary drinks and snacks brought right to your seat
Wi-Fi and Outlets: Perfect for staying connected or charging devices
Brightline markets itself as a ādifferent kind of train experience,ā and theyāre not kidding. Traveling at 125 mph while sipping a complimentary drink and stretching out in a comfy seat felt worlds away from the cramped flights and long car rides Iāve taken in Florida before.
š Arriving at Aventura Station
After a smooth ride, I arrived at Aventura Station, which is another beautifully designed stop along Brightlineās route. The station sits conveniently near Aventura Mall, one of the largest malls in Florida, and itās a great jumping-off point if youāre planning to continue into Miami or Fort Lauderdale.
Aventura Station | Brightline
For my trip, I explored some of the local attractions around Aventura, including food spots and shopping. This is one of the perks of Brightlineāit doesnāt just drop you off in a random spot; stations are strategically placed near major hubs.
šØāš©āš§ Why Brightline is Perfect for Orlando Family Vacations
If youāre visiting Orlando for Disney World, Universal Orlando, or even a cruise out of Port Canaveral, Brightline adds a new option for extending your trip. Hereās why I think itās perfect for families and vacationers:
No Rental Cars Needed ā Skip the hassle of driving on I-95.
Stress-Free Travel ā No long TSA lines like the airport.
Comfort for Kids ā Spacious seating, Wi-Fi, and the ability to move around.
Easy Connections ā Arrive in Orlando, hop on Brightline, and head straight to South Florida.
Itās also worth mentioning that for grandparents or extended family joining you in Florida, this is a safe and easy way for them to travel, too.

I can tell you all about Brightline, but the truth isāyou really need to see it to believe it. From the station in Orlando to the Premium Lounge, to the 125-mph ride itself, I captured it all in my video.

Universal Orlandoās Express Pass Unlimited vs. Disney Worldās Lightning Lane Premier Pass: Which Is Better?
Planning a trip to Orlando? Compare Universal Orlandoās Express Pass Unlimited and Disney Worldās Lightning Lane Unlimited to see which line-skipping service saves more time, money, and stress.
When planning a theme park vacation, one of the biggest decisions families face is whether to invest in a line-skipping service. Both Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World now offer premium options that promise to cut down wait times and maximize your day. Universalās Express Pass Unlimited and Disneyās Lightning Lane Premier Pass are the two most powerful tools in Orlando for skipping the standby queue. But how do they actually compare? Which offers better value, flexibility, and convenience?
Letās dive into a detailed comparison of Universal Express Unlimited vs. Disney Lightning Lane Premier Pass so you can decide which one is right for your trip.
What Is Universal Express Unlimited?
Universalās Express Pass Unlimited allows guests to skip the regular standby line and enter an expedited Express queue for most rides and attractions. Unlike the base Express Pass, which only lets you skip each participating ride once per day, the Unlimited version truly lives up to its name: you can ride the same attraction as many times as you want, all through the faster line.
That means if youāre obsessed with Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey or Jurassic World VelociCoaster, youāre free to loop back around multiple times with minimal waiting.
Express Unlimited is sold as a per-day add-on to your ticket. Pricing is date-based, and the more crowded the parks are expected to be, the more expensive the pass will be. It can also sell out on peak days.
What Is Disneyās Lightning Lane Premier Pass?
Disneyās line-skipping system is more layered and complicated. At Walt Disney World, most guests use Lightning Lane which requires you to book return times for the Lightning Lane Line access throughout the day. However, thereās also a premium tier often referred to as the Premier Access option.
This option, when available, functions more like Universalās Express Pass. Instead of reserving time slots, you get one-time access to every Lightning Lane-eligible ride in a single park without booking windows. You simply walk up and scan in.
The catch? You only get one use per attraction. So while youāll save time at nearly every major ride, you canāt re-ride your favorites through the Lightning Lane under the Unlimited plan. If you want to ride again, youāll need to join the standby queue.
How the Two Systems Differ
1. Unlimited vs. One-Time Use
Universal Express Unlimited: Truly unlimited. You can ride the same attraction again and again.
Disney Lightning Lane Premier Pass: One Lightning Lane entry per attraction. Repeat rides must be in standby.
This difference is huge for thrill-seekers or anyone who wants to ride headliners multiple times.
2. Reservations vs. Flexibility
Universal: No reservations needed. Walk up to the ride when you want and use the Express line.
Disney Premier: While you wonāt need to schedule times as with regular Lightning Lane, remember that itās only one use per ride.
3. Park Access
Universal Express Unlimited: Can be purchased for one park (Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure) or both if you have a park-to-park ticket.
Disney Lightning Lane Premier Pass: Valid only in one park per day.If youāre hopping between Disney parks, youāll need separate purchases.
4. Participating Attractions
Universal: Every ride included, except Pteranodon Flyers.
Disney World: Covers most Lightning Lane attractions, but if Lightning Lane isnāt offered, Premier Pass wonāt be accepted. Fortunately, most rides have a Lightning Lane.
5. Pricing
Universal Express Unlimited: Prices vary by date and demand, typically ranging from $100ā$350+ per person, per day.
Disney Lightning Lane Unlimited (Premier): Also dynamic pricing, with costs varying by park and crowd levels but typicaly fall in the $300 - $400 range per person, per day. For example, in October 2025, prices at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom reached $449 on busy dates.
Neither is cheap, but both can be worth it during peak crowds when lines stretch over an hour each.
6. Availability
Both systems are capacity-controlled. Universal sells a limited number of Express Unlimited passes each day, and Disney restricts its Lightning Lane Unlimited sales as well. If youāre traveling during holidays or school breaks, booking early is essential.
The Guest Experience: What It Feels Like in the Parks
Universal Orlando
Using Express Unlimited is straightforward. You stroll to the ride, flash your pass, and head into a shorter line. Waits are often 10ā20 minutes instead of 60+. For popular rides, this can be a massive time saver. Since you can re-ride endlessly, the experience feels indulgentāyouāre truly buying time and freedom.
Families who want to squeeze everything into a short trip often find Express Unlimited invaluable. Itās also especially nice for thrill-seekers who want to marathon coasters or immerse themselves in the Wizarding World without constantly strategizing.
At Walt Disney World
Lightning Lane Premier Pass simplifies Disneyās previous Genie+ system. Instead of waking up early, booking return times, and juggling the app, you just head to the rides. For those who dislike planning, this is a huge stress reliever.
However, the one-time limit per ride can feel restrictive. If your kids love Slinky Dog Dash and want to ride it twice, youāll only skip the line once. That means your day still requires some standby patience.
Which One Saves More Time?
This depends on how you tour the parks.
Universal Express Unlimited is generally the bigger time-saver for guests who want to ride a lot, repeat favorites, or maximize a short stay. The ability to skip lines multiple times per ride makes it more powerful.
Disney Lightning Lane Unlimited is more about convenience and simplicity than sheer ride count. It guarantees youāll hit most attractions once without hassle but wonāt let you marathon rides.
Cost vs. Value: Who Wins?
Universal: If youāre visiting for one or two days and want to experience nearly everything, Express Unlimited is worth the premium. Youāll easily double or triple your ride count compared to standby guests.
Disney: The Unlimited option makes sense if you hate app-based planning or are visiting on a packed day. But if your group loves to re-ride, its one-time rule might feel limiting.
Who Should Choose Universal Express Unlimited?
Families with older kids or adults who love thrill rides.
Visitors with short trips who want to ādo it all.ā
Anyone visiting during peak seasons when wait times explode.
Theme park fans who want the freedom to re-ride without restrictions.
Who Should Choose Disney Lightning Lane Unlimited?
First-time visitors who want to guarantee one ride on each headliner.
Guests visiting on high-crowd days when Genie+ sells out.
Travelers who donāt care as much about re-rides but want smoother touring.
Final Verdict
Both systems deliver on their promise to save time, but they cater to different kinds of parkgoers. Universal Express Unlimited is the more powerful option because of its true unlimited nature. You can ride to your heartās content, and that freedom justifies its high cost for many visitors.
Disneyās Lightning Lane Premier Access Saves time however, the one-time limit per ride means it doesnāt offer quite the same bang for your buck if you love repeats.
If you want the ultimate efficiency and thrill-seeker freedom, Universalās Express Unlimited wins. If youāre visiting Disney and want to remove the stress of reservations, Lightning Lane Unlimited may be the smarter choice.
Extra Planning Tips
Buy early: Both passes can sell out, especially on holidays and weekends.
Factor it into your budget: The cost can rival or exceed your ticket price.
Check which rides are excluded: Donāt assume every ride is open, could be closed for maintenance or technical difficulties.
Consider your groupās style: If your kids love repeats, Universal is best. If they just want to try everything once, Disney may be fine.

How to Take Brightline from Orlando (And My Full Vlog Experience)
Ride Brightline from Orlando to Miami, Aventura & more. Tips, ticket guide, travel times, and my full vlog review of Brightlineās Premium & Smart class.
š Why Brightline Matters for Orlando Travelers
If youāre planning a trip to South Florida from Central Florida, Brightline is a game-changer. The high-speed train now connects Orlando to Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach, giving travelers a stress-free alternative to driving I-95 or booking short flights.
A Brightline train is ready for passengers at the Orlando station
I recently rode Brightline from Orlando to Aventura and documented the full journey in my vlog. You can watch it here. This article breaks down everything you need to know to use Brightline, with tips from my experience. I travel both, Premium Class and regular, so you can see both.
š Where to Board in Orlando
Brightlineās Orlando station is located at Orlando International Airport (MCO), directly integrated into Terminal C. Even if youāre not flying, you can park at the airport and walk right into the station.
Tip: Arrive at least 20ā30 minutes before departure to check in, grab a snack, and enjoy the lounge areas.
šļø Choosing Your Ticket: Premium vs Smart
Brightline offers two ticket types:
Premium Class ā Includes lounge access, complimentary food and drinks onboard, more spacious seating, and priority boarding.
Smart Class ā More budget-friendly with comfortable seats and the option to purchase food and drinks.
š In my vlog, I tried both Premium and Smart so you can see the differences side by side. If you like extra perks, Premium is worth the upgrade. If you just want a quick, affordable ride, Smart is still fantastic.
Brightline Premium lounge at the Orlando station.
šļø What Itās Like Onboard
Brightline trains are clean, modern, and quiet ā with Wi-Fi, power outlets, and plenty of legroom.
Premium passengers enjoy included snacks, beer, wine, and cocktails.
Smart passengers can purchase items from the cafƩ menu.
Families will love the roomy seating, and business travelers will appreciate the productivity-friendly setup.
š Travel Time & Destinations
From Orlando to Aventura, the trip takes about 3.5 hours. Along the way, trains stop in:
West Palm Beach
Boca Raton
Fort Lauderdale
Aventura (where I stopped for my vlog)
MiamiCentral (the final stop)
šļø What to Do in Aventura (and Beyond)
In my trip, I got off at Aventura Station, which is directly connected to Aventura Mall ā one of the largest malls in the country. From there, I headed to Hollywood Beach for some ocean views before wrapping up the night at Hard Rock Stadium for a Coldplay concert.
Your trip might look different, but Brightline makes it easy to hop off and explore different South Florida neighborhoods.
š” Tips for First-Time Riders
Download the Brightline app for mobile boarding passes and easy booking.
Travel light ā luggage racks are available, but space fills up quickly.
Bring headphones if you plan to work or nap; the train is family-friendly and sometimes lively.
Book early ā weekend trains and special event days sell out fast.
Check out promotions ā Brightline often runs discounts for families, groups, and early bookings.

7 Ways to Navigate Epic Universe Like a Pro (Full Guide)
Planning your first visit to Epic Universe? š¢ My 7-step touring plan covers the best rides, dining spots, and night shows to make your day unforgettable. From Donkey Kong to Harry Potter, this guide helps you maximize every moment at Universal Orlandoās newest park.
Iāve been to Epic Universe quite a few times, and it's quickly become one of my favorite parks in Orlando! But Iāll tell you right nowāif you donāt have Early Park Admission, youāre starting the day at a disadvantage. But that doesnāt mean you canāt win.ā
Today, Iām sharing my personal strategy for touring Epic Universe without Early Entry.
Watch my video on how to save time in line at Epic Universe
#1 Start of Day: Celestial Park at Rope Drop
I always begin my day right at the gates of Celestial Park, arriving about 40 minutes prior to park opening. This allows me time to park, walk to the gate, and clear security without long waits. Universal will allow you into Celestial Park even before the park officially opens. This is the hub of Epic Universe, so I take some time to walk around and take it all in. Oh, and donāt skip the fountain show. Most guests breeze right by, but theyāre beautiful and timed to music. And come back to watch them at night with the Helios Grand Hotel in the background. Youāll get some great photos and videos here.
Now, when the park opens, most guests make the same mistake: They rush toward Super Nintendo World or the Harry Potter Ministry ride. Donāt do that. Hotel guests with Early Park Admission flood those lands before youāre even allowed in. By the time you get there, those rides will already have wait times well over 150 minutes. The ministry will be more like 180 minutes when the park opens.
So instead of getting frustrated, I do something else. I go for Stardust Racers.
This is Epic Universeās flagship coasterāa high-speed, dual-launch ride that soars above Celestial Park. If youāre here at rope drop, you can typically ride it with only a 10ā20 minute wait. And trust me, itās worth it. I always try to ride this twiceāonce in the morning, and again at night when the park lights are glowing. Itās a completely different experience.
But heads up: after sunset, the entire park seems to migrate here. The line can spike dramatically, and they will close the queue early if it gets too long. So lock this one in early.
#2 Isle of Berk (Mid-Morning)
After Stardust, I immediately head to Isle of Berk, home to the āHow to Train Your Dragonā attractions. This land is designed with families in mindābut donāt let that fool you. There are some thrilling attractions here, and the entire space feels vibrant and energetic.
Now if meeting Toothless is high on your priority list, head there first when you enter Berk. This meet and greet is seriously impressiveāToothless is fully animated and interactive, but the wait gets long fast. Iāve seen it hit 55 minutes as soon as the park opens. So if this is a must-do for you or your kids, knock it out early before you start riding.
Isle of Berk at Epic Universe is based on the film, How to Train Your Dragon
Next stop? Hiccupās Wing Gliders. This is a fast-moving family coaster and a favorite among both kids and adults. Itās also incredibly popular, so I try to hit it before the midday rush. Wait times hover around 60-70 minutes in the morning.
If youāre up for some chaotic fun, Dragon Racer Rally is a wild ride that lets you control your own spinning dragon. Itās great for families and surprisingly intense if you max out the controls. The line here is usually shorter than Wing Gliders, and itās a solid second or third stop.
If Iām up for getting soaked, Iāll jump on Fyre Drill next. Itās a playful, interactive boat battle where you basically spray water at everyone and everything. The line will be under 30 minutes most of the morning, so itās a great pick right now. Just keep in mind youāll be very wet for a while. Ponchos can help, but even your shoes will get soaked.
And then thereās The Untrainable Dragon Showāa solid mix of animatronics, puppetry, and live performance. Personally, I save this one for later in the afternoon when the heat sets in and I need an air-conditioned break. But if youāre already in the area and donāt plan to return, catch the next showtime you can.
#3 Lunch and Rides in Dark Universe (Early Afternoon)
By early afternoon, itās time to shift into something darkerāliterally. Dark Universe is the moody, monster-filled land of Epic Universe, and itās one of the most atmospheric parts of the park. This is my favorite portal in Epic Universe.
I like to hit Curse of the Werewolf first. Itās family-friendly so the line builds quickly once guests finish Nintendo World and begin to head in this direction. Itās short and punchyāand the barn has a fun surprise, so keep your eyes peeled as you pass through.
But the main event here is Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment. This is my favorite dark ride in the entire park. Massive sets, brilliant effects, and an absolutely wild story. I would say this is the second flagship attraction in the park after Battle at the Ministry. And surprisingly, the wait times are usually very manageable, 10 to 35 minutes throughout most of the day.
By now, youāll be thinking about lunch. I always recommend Das Stakehaus.itās themed like a vampire steakhouse and one of the best dining experiences Iāve ever had at a theme park. The theming is top-notch, and the food is just as impressive. Be sure to walk around the dining roomāthere are exhibits and story elements tucked into every corner.
If Das Stakehaus is full or too intense, Burning Blade Tavern is another solid pick. Itās more of a bar, but they serve light bites and have an amazing vibe. And if youād rather keep it light and breezy, Pizza Moon over in Celestial Park is just a short walk away.
You might hop on the Constellation Carousel, which, honestly, is more stunning at night, but still charming in the daylight. Thereās rarely a long line here, but it's something to do if you need a break from waiting in long lines.
#4 Afternoon: Wizarding World ā Ministry of Magic
After lunch, I head over to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter ā Ministry of Magic. Now, hereās where this touring strategy really shines.
By mid-afternoon, the Early Park Admission crowd has moved on, and this part of the park becomes slightly more manageable. Iām not going to sugarcoat itāthe lines here are still long. But compared to the 3-hour waits earlier in the day, youāll be saving a huge chunk of time by arriving now.
Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Epic Unviverse
The main draw is Battle at the Ministry. Itās the parkās flagship dark rideāepic in scale, loaded with effects, and full of jaw-dropping visuals. And while the wait might still be 135 minutes, this strategy means youāre not burning your morning here like everyone else did. Thatās a win.
But hereās the thing: this ride goes downāa lot. Itās a technical marvel, but not always a reliable one. Iāve seen it close multiple times a day. Even if the app says itās down for good, donāt give up. Keep checking. Iāve seen it come back online with zero warning. You just have to stay flexible.
While youāre in this portal, take some time to enjoy the world around you. Harry Potter Ministry of Magic is loaded with incredible detail. If you have an interactive wand, nowās the time to use it. There are magical effects hidden all over the landājust follow the crowds of Harry Potter fans waving sticks at windows.
I usually skip the Le Cirque Arcanus show. Iām not a Harry Potter fan, so this show doesnāt interest me. Itās a great show if you love Harry Potter, or need some air conditioning; otherwise, skip it and continue on.
#5 Evening: Super Nintendo World
As the day winds down, I head to Super Nintendo World. This land is beautiful in the late afternoon lightāand even better at dusk. It feels like youāve stepped straight into a video game. And hereās the good news: by now, the early rush has passed, and wait times start to dip.
First up: Mario Kart: Bowserās Challenge. This ride looks incredible, and the queue is one of the best in the parkāespecially if you're a longtime Nintendo fan. That said⦠the ride itself? Slightly overrated. Honestly, I think walking through the queue might be the best part.
Donkey Kong Mine Cart Madness
Wait times should be around 100 minutes now. After that, I always go for Mine Cart Madnessāthe Donkey Kong coaster. This one is worth the hype. Itās fast, bouncy, and has some really clever effects. The wait here can still hover around 60ā70 minutes, even in the evening, but itās often less than what youād face earlier in the day.
For something slower-paced, donāt skip Yoshiās Adventure. This gentle ride gives you an elevated view of the entire land. Even people who hate rides usually enjoy this one. Wait times are usually between 10 and 30 minutes now, compared to 70 minutes first thing in the morning.
Now, letās talk about the hidden gem: Shadow Showdown.
Most guests donāt even know this exists. After you complete three Power-Up Band mini-games, you unlock access to this interactive finale. You literally use your own shadow to battle villains on a massive screenāitās clever, fun, and strangely under-the-radar. If youāve got kids or you just like cool tech, itās totally worth the time and the price of the Power-Up Band.
And dinner? Toadstool CafĆ©. No question. The theme is adorable, and the food is adorable. I love what Universal did here - I mean, look at this toad pizza bowl. And the Toad animations in the windows are hilarious. Watch carefullyāthose animations go way beyond just looping characters waving at you. Stick around long enough, and you might catch something special.
If Toadstool Cafe is too cute for you, thereās a French-style quick service cafĆ© in Wizarding World Iāll be honestāI canāt pronounce the name to save my life. But youāll know it when you see it. Worth a stop. The Oak and Barrel Barbecue Restaurant in Celestial Park is another solid choice.
#6 Final Hour: Re-Rides, Night Views, and That Perfect Shot
The last hour before the park closes is prime time. The crowds thin out, the lights come on, and Epic Universe starts to glow in a way thatās hard to describe.
This is when I go back and re-ride a favorite. Sometimes itās Stardust Racers, if I can beat the rush. Other times, Iāll wander through the Dark Universe just to take it all in.
If youāre in Dark Universe at night, do not miss the Burning Blade Tavern. Every 15 minutes, the windmill outside erupts into flamesāactual fire. I donāt know why itās so satisfying to watch a windmill burst into flames, but trust me... it is.
For photos and video, I always head back to Celestial Park for the nighttime fountain show. I position myself so that the Helios Grand Hotel is in the background. The view is spectacular, and the reflections off the water make it even better.
Just keep in mind: Even though the park closes at 9 p.m., some ride queues close early. Theyāll stop letting guests in if the line is too long. So if youāve got one more ride in mind, donāt wait too long to queue up.
Recap of My Touring Strategy
Hereās how my day usually plays outāroughly by time. Iāll post a link to my article where you can bookmark this recap and take it with you into the park.
10:00 am ā Celestial Park: Stardust Racers, Carousel, fountains
10:30 am ā Isle of Berk: Meet Toothless, Wing Gliders, Fyre Drill, Dragon Racers
12:30 pm ā Dark Universe: Monsters Unchained, Werewolf coaster, lunch
2:30 pm ā Wizarding World: Battle at the Ministry, wand play
5:00 pm ā Super Nintendo World: Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Shadow Showdown, Yoshi, dinner.
After 8:00 pm ā Walk-throughs, Burning Blade and fountain shows, last re-ride
#7 Final Thoughts and Bonus Tips
This plan is not meant to be a minute-by-minute itinerary for touring Epic Universe. There are too many moving parts and something will likely hijack your day - a ride closure, thunderstorm, someone needs to rest for a while, etcetera. This is a general guide to point you in the right direction for your day.
So to pull this off, youāve got to stay flexible.
Afternoon thunderstorms? Yeah, theyāll shut down 90% of the park in an instant. Just find cover, grab a snack, and wait it out. Most storms clear within the hour.
And keep an eye on the appāespecially for attractions like Battle at the Ministry. That ride is unreliable, but incredible if you catch it when itās running. Donāt give up just because it says āclosed.ā
Lastly, if Universal ever sends you a post-visit survey, tell them this: Please keep Epic Universe open later. This park is stunning at night, and closing at 9:00 p.m. is a massive missed opportunity.
So there you have itāmy complete, battle-tested strategy for conquering Epic Universe without Early Park Admission. Iāll post a pinned comment with all the Epic Universe height requirements in case youāre traveling with kids.
If youāve got your own tips or if this strategy worked for you, let me know in the comments. Iād love to hear how your visit went.

Do You Need to Activate the Universal Orlando Photo Package? Hereās My Experience
Wondering if you need to activate your Universal Orlando photo package before using it? Hereās my first-hand guide on how activation works, where to go, and how to save time.
When I head to Universal Orlando, I almost always add on the My Universal Photos packageāitās the easiest way to collect all the ride photos, character meet-and-greets, and those candid shots in front of the globe without fumbling with my phone. But thereās one question I get asked all the time:
Photo Shop at Universal Studios Florida
š āIf I buy the Universal Orlando photo package, do I need to stop at the photo center to activate it?ā
The short answer is yesābut itās not as much of a hassle as you might think.
How the Activation Works
When you purchase My Universal Photos, whether you buy online ahead of time or at the park, youāll still need to activate the package inside Universal Orlando. This step links your purchase to the physical photo pass cards youāll use throughout the day.
Hereās where you can activate:
On Location at Universal Studios Florida
DeFotoās Expedition Photography at Islands of Adventure
Waturi Marketplace at Volcano Bay
Or even the will-call window at the front gate
Once you activate, the team member gives you a lanyard and photo cardāand you can request extras if your group is splitting up. Every card links back to your account, so all of your photos end up in one place.
Do You Have to Activate Right Away?
Nope! You donāt need to run straight to the photo center the minute you enter the park.
Hereās a pro tip Iāve learned: you can start using a temporary card that ride photographers hand out at attractions. When you finally stop by a photo center to activate your package, those early photos will be transferred over to your account. That way, you donāt waste rope-drop time standing in line.
My Advice
If you want to maximize your photo package:
Grab a temporary card as soon as you get your first photo taken.
Wait to activate until the middle of the day when crowds are lighter.
Ask for extra cards if your family is splitting upāit keeps everyoneās photos together.
For me, this system works perfectly. I get all my ride photos, family shots, and even those silly green-screen pictures without stressing.
Final Thoughts
Yes, you do need to activate your Universal Orlando photo packageābut you donāt need to stress about it. Start snapping photos with a temporary card, then swing by a photo center when itās convenient. Youāll walk away with a full album of memories without sacrificing valuable park time.

But in this post, I want to do more than just share the video. I want to give you my honest take on who Cabana Bay Beach Resort is for ā and who might want to look elsewhere.
Why I Chose Cabana Bay
Iāve stayed at plenty of Orlando hotels over the years, from budget motels to deluxe resorts. Cabana Bay caught my attention because itās technically a āvalueā resort within Universal Orlando, but it offers way more personality and perks than your average budget hotel.
From the moment you drive up, Cabana Bay feels like youāve stepped into a retro postcard from the 1960s. Neon lights, bold turquoise panels, and even a vintage bowling alley inside ā itās like the Jetsons meet Florida beach vacation.
For me, this wasnāt just about saving money. I wanted a resort that felt fun, had easy access to the parks, and still gave my family some space to relax. Cabana Bay checked all of those boxes.

The Big Perks of Staying at Cabana Bay
Hereās what stood out to me during my stay:
Early Park Admission ā Even though Cabana Bay doesnāt include Universalās Express Pass (thatās for the pricier premier resorts), you do get early entry to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, and soon Epic Universe. This can make a huge difference for families trying to beat the crowds.
Direct Access to Volcano Bay ā Cabana Bay is the only hotel with a private entrance to Universalās water park. After spending a day in the sun, that easy walk back to the room really mattered.
Two Massive Pools + Lazy River ā My kids couldnāt get enough of the lazy river. And Iāll be honest ā I floated right alongside them.
Family-Friendly Dining Options ā Bayliner Diner, the food court, has something for everyone (plus a Starbucks when I needed my caffeine fix).
Retro Fun ā Between Galaxy Bowl, the Jack LaLanne fitness studio, and themed dĆ©cor everywhere, the resort feels more like an experience than just a place to sleep.
See exactly what Cabana Bay Beach Resort is like in my latest video tour:
Who Cabana Bay Is Perfect For
Based on my stay, hereās my advice on who should consider booking Cabana Bay:
1. Families with Kids
The pools, lazy river, bowling alley, and casual dining make this a no-brainer for families. Kids will be entertained even if you take a āday offā from the parks.
2. Budget-Conscious Travelers
If you want to be on Universal property without paying deluxe resort prices, Cabana Bay is a solid middle ground. Rooms are straightforward but still themed and comfortable.
3. Theme Park Fans Who Want Convenience
The free shuttle buses and Volcano Bay entrance make it easy to maximize park time without the stress of driving or parking.
4. Retro & Design Enthusiasts
Honestly, even if youāre not a theme park person, the mid-century modern vibe is reason enough to stay. It feels like youāre living inside a vintage travel ad.
Who Might Want to Skip Cabana Bay
Of course, no resort is perfect. Cabana Bay might not be the right fit if:
You must have Universalās Express Pass included. For that, youāll need to book Hard Rock Hotel, Royal Pacific, or Portofino Bay.
You prefer luxury touches like fine dining, plush bedding, and upscale lobbies. Cabana Bay is fun and stylish, but itās still a value-to-moderate category hotel.
You donāt like big resorts. With over 2,000 rooms, Cabana Bay is large and busy. If you want something more boutique, youāll want to look elsewhere.
My Final Take
So, would I stay here again? Absolutely.
Cabana Bay Beach Resort is a fantastic choice if youāre visiting Universal Orlando with family, on a budget, or just want to soak up a playful retro atmosphere. Itās not about luxury ā itās about fun, convenience, and getting great value for what you pay.
If youāre planning your own Orlando vacation, I highly recommend checking out Cabana Bay. And if you want a full walkthrough of the resort, from the lobby to the lazy river, watch my video tour here: [Insert YouTube Link].
And if youāre already planning ahead to Universalās brand-new Epic Universe park, youāll want to see my guide on how to beat the crowds there. Thatās right here: [Insert Link to Epic Universe Post/Video].

Universal Orlando Attraction Closures & Refurbishments ā 2025 & Beyond
Several rides at Universal Orlando Resort will be closing temporarily for refurbishment in 2025, with one major coaster saying goodbye for good. Hereās the full list of dates so you can plan ahead.
Heads Up: A Few Attractions Are Taking a Short Break! š ļø
If youāre planning a Universal Orlando trip in late 2025 or early 2027, itās always smart to check which attractions might be down during your visit. While most rides and shows run year-round, the parks schedule short refurbishments to keep everything running smoothly ā and sometimes, those closures bring major changes. Hereās whatās on the calendar right now (dates subject to change).
Revenge of the Mummy
š
Closed August 11 ā 13, 2025
Good news ā this fan-favorite indoor coaster is only going down for a quick three-day tune-up. If youāre visiting around these dates, plan to ride before or after the closure window.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit ā PERMANENT CLOSURE
š
Closing August 18, 2025
This is the big one. The towering music coaster at Universal Studios Florida will be closing permanently to make way for a brand-new experience. Universal hasnāt announced whatās replacing it yet, but stay tuned ā weāll update as soon as details drop.
Skull Island: Reign of Kong
š
Closed August 20 ā September 3, 2025
Kong is taking a short break for maintenance. This dark ride is popular for its massive animatronic finale, so a little TLC will only make it better.
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls
š
Closed October 6 ā 31, 2025
This cartoon-inspired log flume is closing for a few weeks during the fall. Considering the Florida heat, you may not miss it too much ā but itās still a fun one to ride if you love getting soaked.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
š
Closed November 10 ā 20, 2025
The signature attraction inside Hogwarts Castle will be closed for a short refurbishment. If this is a must-do for you, try to work around these dates when visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter ā Hogsmeade.
Volcano Bay ā Seasonal Closure
š
Closed October 26, 2026 ā Reopening on or before March 24, 2027
Universalās water theme park will be taking its longest break yet for seasonal maintenance. While Volcano Bay usually closes briefly in winter, this extended downtime could mean big upgrades are in store.
Plan Ahead & Stay Flexible
Attraction closures are a normal part of theme park operations, but with a little planning, you can still enjoy an incredible Universal Orlando vacation. Keep checking back here at OrlandoParksGuy.com for updates ā especially if more details are released about Rip Ride Rockitās replacement.

How to Use Uber / Lyft at Disney World and Universal Orlando
Uber and Lyft offer convenient rides to Walt Disney World, Orlando International Airport, and Universal Orlando. Avoid parking and shuttles with direct service, competitive prices, easy booking, and ride options from shared to premium. Park drop-offs are at designated zones; airport rides have real-time tracking for timely pickups. Perfect for solo travelers or groups, they simplify your Orlando trip.
Need to get to a Disney World restaurant or travel between Disney Resort hotels? Going to Orlando International Airport? How about a ride between Disney World and Universal Orlando? Uber and Lyft are widely available in Orlando and offer fast, reliable transportation.
Here are some of the most popular questions I get about using a Uber and Lyft in Orlando.
How much does it cost to go from Disney World to Universal Resort?
Fares will vary but usually around $20 - $30 each way.
Which is cheaper in Orlando? Lyft or Uber?
Lyft tends to have better rates than Uber. For example, Universal to Orlando International Airport is about $32 with Uber. Lyft is about $24.
Check both Uber and Lyft to compare rates before each ride.
Did you know that Disney World is 50 square miles? Thatās twice the size of New York City!
How much does it cost to travel within Walt Disney World?
Average fares are about $8 - $16.
How long will I have to wait for Uber / Lyft to arrive?
Less than 10 minutes, in most cases cars come immediately.
Orlando International Airport (MCO)
Can you use Uber or Lyft from Orlando International Airport?
Yes, Uber and Lyft are available at Orlando Airport (MCO). Look for the āRide Appā signs on Level 2 to you guide to the pick up area.
Uber and Lyft will take you directly to your hotel where as some shuttle services stop at multiple hotels along the way.
Uber and Lyft are readily available at Disney World and Universal hotels when itās time to go back to the airport (booo!)
Where does Uber and Lyft pick up at Universal Orlando?
Use the dedicated Uber Zone located in the Jurassic Park Garage. Uber is the official rideshare provider of Universal (Disney went with Lyft) so youāll only see signs for Uber. But both companies pick up and drop off from this location.
If youāre visiting Volcano Bay water park, you can take a complimentary shuttle from the Uber Zone.
Signs for Uber and Lyft can be found throughout the exit of Universal Orlando directing you where to go.
Signs for Uber and Lyft can be found throughout the exit of Universal Orlando directing you where to go.
Can Uber and Lyft bypass the parking booths at the Orlando theme parks?
At Disney, yes, drivers will identify themselves to the parking attendant who will direct them to the drop-off area.
At Universal, drivers must use the Uber Zone drop-off center located in the Jurassic Park Garage.
Universal Orlando Resort
Can Uber / Lyft use Disneyās Contemporary Resort for Magic Kingdom drop-off and pick-up?
Sometimes yes, but security guard may redirect your driver to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC). This is likely to happen during busy times such as holidays and RunDisney weekends.
The official policy is that drivers must use the TTC as this is the official ride-share zone for Magic Kingdom Park.
If you have a dining reservation at Disneyās Contemporary Resort, your driver will be permitted to enter the lot.
How will the driver find me?
Drivers will see your GPS location but itās helpful to send a message with your location and a description. Communication between you and your driver is important and they appreciate short descriptions!
For example, āIām near the bell desk at Disneyās Polynesian VIllage Resort, wearing a gray Mickey Mouse shirt and blue shorts.ā
How far in advance should I request my ride?
Drivers arrive pretty quick at Walt Disney World and Universal, so request your ride when you are standing in the pick up zone.
If you are requesting a ride from Magic Kingdom Park, first take the monorail or ferry to the Ticket at Transportation Center (TTC), then request your ride. You can only be picked up at the TTC, not at the Magic Kingdom.
Another option is to walk to Disneyās Contemporary Resort and request your ride once you are there.
At the TTC, drivers are probably already queued in the waiting zone and will pull up quickly.
Are car seats available through Uber and Lyft?
Yes, with Uber you can use Uber Car Seat for an additional fee, about $10. This may increase your wait time. Lyft is still working to introduce car seats as an option in Orlando.

My Epic Universe Touring Strategy (No Early Park Admission)
How to spend less time waiting in line at Epic Universe
Planning a trip to Universalās Epic Universe without Early Park Admission (EPA)? No problem! I have perfected this strategy over multiple visits, so you can spend less time waiting in line. And be sure to catch my bonus insider tips at the end, so you can have even more fun in the park.
Epic Universe at Universal Orlando Resort
Epic Universe Key Strategy Tips:
With this plan, youāll dodge the worst of the crowds, hit every must-do attraction, and soak up the parkās five immersive portals in the smartest order possible.
Arrive 30ā45 minutes before official park opening.
Skip Super Nintendo World and Harry Potter first thing ā hotel guests flood it early.
Use the Universal Orlando app to join any Virtual Queues, if offered.
Leverage Single Rider lines for re-rides or less important attractions. Single rider lines are about half-the posted wait time.
Watch for early line closures in the evening, while the park is opened until 9, some lines shut down prior to that.
Touring Strategy (Starting from Celestial Park)
1. Celestial Park (Rope Drop)
Start your day here ā it's central and opens directly to all guests. Resist the temptation to ride Harry Potter Battle at the Ministry, it will have a 3-hour wait at regular park opening, thanks to all the EPA guests who flood this attraction first. The same is true for Super Nintendo World. So, let them wait for 3 hours, we are going to outsmart them and ride later, when the wait is half that time.
Stardust Racers
Stardust Racers (minimum 48ā to ride) ā This high-speed dual-launch coaster is a must-do and best tackled first. But I also recommend trying to ride it again at night. Keep in mind that as soon as the sun goes down, everyone flocks to the ride to experience it in the dark. So the wait time can jump up rapidly. They may even close the queue before 9 pm if the line gets too long. This ride typically has a 20-30 minute wait throughout most of the day.
Constellation Carousel ā A whimsical ride you can do now or loop back to later. Thereās hardly a long wait throughout most of the day. Try it during the day, and again at night.
Take a moment to watch the fountain shows, too.
2. How to Train Your Dragon ā Isle of Berk
Great theming and interactive fun await here mid-morning. While most people are rushing to Super Nintendo World and Harry Potter, Isle of Berk is relatively uncrowded. Isle of Berk is 95% outside, which means you wonāt have any air conditioning breaks here except for the theater show, The Untrainable Dragon. So visit in the morning when temps are cooler than Orlandoās surface-of-the-sun afternoon temperatures. Along with thunderstorms. (More on thunderstorms coming up.)
Meet and Greet with Toothless - Meet Toothless, the beloved dragon from the How to Train Your Dragon series. This experience lets guests get up close with the friendly, animated Night Fury in a dynamic environment that offers photo opportunities and memorable interactions. The wait can easily reach 75 minutes, so if this is a must-do, head here first.
Hiccupās Wing Gliders (minimum 40ā to ride) ā A thrilling family coaster, one of the most popular rides in Epic Universe.
Fyre Drill ā Prepare to get super wet in this playful boat battle. Wait times remain pretty short until afternoon.
The Untrainable Dragon Show ā Check the showtimes and work it into your day. I like to save this one for mid-afternoon when the park is hottest and I need a break, but if you donāt want to come back to this area, see the show any time.
Dark Universe at Epic Universe | Universal Orlando
3. Dark Universe
Hit this land in early afternoon and have lunch here.
Curse of the Werewolf (minimum 40ā to ride) ā Start with this coaster. Itās popular, and the line builds throughout the day. Especially when people start leaving Super Nintendo World, itās a spooky family coaster, not too wild. Stay alert in the barn - and be sure to look up!
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment (minimum 48ā to ride) ā One of the parkās most ambitious dark rides. I think this is the best ride in the park. Wait times are generally short for this ride throughout the day, often as low as 10 minutes, but may go as high as 35 minutes. The indoor queue is fantastic and youāll have lots to look at.
Das Steakhaus is my recommended restaurant for lunch and/or dinner at Epic Universe
Consider Das Stakehaus for lunch. Das Steakhaus is one of the best restaurants Iāve ever experienced in a theme park. The food and atmosphere are outstanding. Be sure to take a moment to walk around the restaurant at the numerous exhibits. Youāll notice that vampires here are depicted as heroes rather than villains, which is such a creative take.
I also recommend Burning Blade Tavern. Itās a bar first, but they do have a light menu as well. It draws mostly adults but kids are welcome too.
Burning Blade Tavern erupts every 15 minutes
If these restaurants are a little too dark for you, consider Pizza Moon located nearby in Celestial Park.
4. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter ā Ministry of Magic
Arrive after EPA traffic has moved on. Now this will be far from a walk-on attraction; youāre still going to have quite a wait here. But remember that youāre waiting less with the strategy.
Battle at the Ministry (minimum 40ā to ride) ā A massive, complex dark ride with a jaw-dropping queue. This is far and away the flagship attraction in the park - when itās not down, that is. This is an ambitious engineering marvel, and it goes down several times a day. The tip here is to check the app for live updates. Even if the app says itās closed for the day, keep checking. It may still come back up - Iāve seen this happen on several occasions.
While in Wizarding World, you can do things like play with your interactive wand, explore the shops, and grab a Butter Bear or wizarding snack.
If youāre not a Harry Potter fan, you can skip the show, Le Cirque Arcanus. On the other hand, if you need some air conditioning and a place to relax, by all means, go inside. Youāll find show times on the Universal Orlando app.
5. Super Nintendo World
Visit late afternoon when crowds move on to other portals. Itās also a beautiful portal to visit at dusk. So be sure to return for a walkthrough and to take some great photos.
Mario Kart: Bowserās Challenge (minimum 40ā to ride) ā Expect a wait; likely the ride itself might be a little overrated. I think walking through the queue is better than the ride itself. There are so many things to look at, and if youāre a Nintendo fan, prepare to be blown away. If thereās an impending thunderstorm on the horizon, you get in line to ride out the storm; the queue is all indoors.
Mine Cart Madness (minimum 36ā to ride) is a high-energy roller coaster that plunges you into a wild, twisting adventure through an abandoned mine. Wait times hover around 70 minutes throughout the day but tend to drop off some in late afternoon.
Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe
Yoshiās Adventure (minimum 34ā to ride) ā This slow-moving ride takes you above Super Nintendo World, and is one that most people can do. Even those people who hate rides will enjoy this one. It usually has a short wait time compared to other rides in the park - usually 20- 30 minutes or maybe even less.
While in Nintendo World, play interactive Power-Up Band games - yes, youāll need to purchase them. And hereās a little secret.
After you complete 3 games, you can enter Shadow Showdown, one of the most overlooked attractions at Epic Universe. I canāt tell you how many people I talked to who have no idea this is even a thing. They just play the games and then leave I guess. Shadow Showdown is another interactive game where you play a high-tech video game using your shadow. I think itās one of the best things here.
Toadstool CafĆ©, try this one for dinner, or even if you just grab a snack. Itās pretty cool inside. Keep an eye on the Toad animations in the windows. They are hilarious, and they donāt just run on a short, repetitive loop. I wonāt spoil any surprises, but just keep an eye on these windows for some special things that may happen during your visit.
And if Toadstool Cafe is your thing, try the French-inspired cafe in Wizarding World. I canāt pronounce the name, so thatās why Iām just saying the cafe in Wizarding World - you canāt miss it.
Helios Grand Hotel at dusk from inside Epic Universe
6. Final Hour: Re-Ride and Explore
The last hour of park operation is prime time for low waits and photo ops.
Watch the nighttime fountain/fireworks show in Celestial Park. Position yourself so that the Helios Grand Hotel is in the background. Youāll get some great photos and video.
Dark Universe is especially worth seeing at night. Be sure to catch the Burning Blade Tavern erupt into flames. It happens every 15 minutes. I donāt know why itās so cool to watch a windmill burst into flames, but it is. And you shouldnāt miss it.
Or grab a re-ride on your favorite, just keep in mind that most of the park-goers will head to Stardust Racers during this time.
Epic Universe Touring Summary
10:00 am Celestial Park: Stardust Racers
10:30 am Isle of Berk: Wing Gliders, Fyre Drill, Dragon Racer Rally
12:30 pm Dark Universe: Monsters Unchained, Werewolf, lunch
2:30 pm Wizarding World: Battle at the Ministry, Interactive Wand Play
5:00 pm Super Nintendo World: Mario Kart, Donkey Kong: Mine Cart Madness, Yoshiās Adventure, Power-up Band interactive play. Shadow Showdown, dinner (Possibly Toadstool Cafe)
After 8:00 pm, walk-throughs of Celestial Park, Dark Universe, and re-ride a favorite (possibly Stardust Racers).
Final Thoughts and a Few Tips
This strategy works counterintuitively and against all those who have the EPA advantage. You will see everything you want to see, and save time in line.
The most important consideration here is that the park closes early, at 9 pm, which is right after sunset in the summer. This is a shame because Epic Universe has the best lighting package of any theme park I have ever experienced. If you get a survey about your park visit, tell them you want it opened later.
You also need to stay flexible - afternoon thunderstorms pretty much shut the park down. 90% of the attractions will not run if storms are in the area. So just find a dry place to sit and relax, and wait for it to pass. Storms are usually gone in less than an hour.
Keep in mind that some attraction queues may close earlier than 9 pm. This is so they donāt have a 2-hour wait when they are trying to close the park.
Unfortunately, some of the attractions and shows in Epic Universe experience a lot of downtime. Harry Potter: Battle at the Ministry is the worst. It goes down several times a day. The best advice I can give is to keep checking the app for status updates. Just pack your patience on this one.

Soar with Dragons at Universal Orlando - Epic Universe
Rides, shows and dining coming to Isle of Berk at Universal Orlando
Universal Orlando shared more details on Epic Universe - How to Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk. Something that stood out right away is that this land is rich in rides, and not virtual or motion simulator rides - actual rides! Dining options look amazing with a grand hall and character meet and greets.
On Berk, a rough and rocky island towering over turbulent waters, resides a vibrant village where Vikings and dragons coexist peacefully.
Here, your family can embark on a thrilling coaster ride to glide through the skies resembling dragons, engage in water battles at sea, and enjoy the lively spectacles presented by the fire-breathing inhabitants of the village.

Dragon Racers Rally
At Dragon Racerās Rally, Berkās new Vikings can practice aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls on a massive swing ride. Universal says this swing will go upside down and that riders will be able to make it as wild or mild as they wish.
This ride looks similar to the swing rides built by S&S, a similar perhaps to Dollywoodās Barnestomer ride.

Fyer Drill
Take to the sea for a new water ride where youāll aim water cannons at targets and other objects (maybe even each other). Think Buzz Lightyearās Space Ranger Spin or Men in Black but with water!

Viking Training Camp
Junious Vikings will have a colorful and interactive playscape. There will be multiple towers to climb, and agility course, Viking drums (kids love drums in theme parks for some reason). This area will have slides and activities just for the younger Vikings.

See what Iām up to in the theme parks.
Theme park food pricing isnāt randomāitās driven by massive operating costs, psychological pricing systems like the Disney Dining Plan, high-value IP experiences such as Blue Milk and Butterbeer, and the ultimate force: captive-audience economics. Once youāre inside the gates, parks control the market, the margins, and the money.
