Universal Orlando Ride Closures & Refurbishments Through 2026: What You Need to Know
Heading to Universal Orlando soon? Here’s the 2025–2026 list of confirmed ride closures and refurbishments, including Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit’s final season and the year-long Jurassic Park River Adventure overhaul.
When planning a visit to Universal Orlando in 2025 or 2026, it’s crucial to know which attractions will be offline and for how long. In this article, we cover confirmed ride closures, refurbishment windows, and the known reasons behind them—just for the Orlando resort. All information is drawn from Universal’s announced calendars and reputable theme-park news sites.
Major Permanent Closure
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit — Universal Studios Florida
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has permanently closed on August 18, 2025.
- Its final day of operation was August 17, 2025.
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit has permanently closed on Aug. 18, 2025, to make way for a new experience.
- The park has not yet disclosed detailed plans for the replacement, but filings suggest a new “Amusement Ride” (Project 830) may be built on the same footprint.
- Demolition and site prep are expected to begin immediately after closure.
Reason / context: This is a full removal, not a temporary refurb. It signals that Universal Orlando is reclaiming prime ride real estate to introduce something new—likely a modern, high-capacity attraction that better fits future guest demand.
Major Refurbishment
Jurassic Park River Adventure (Islands of Adventure)
- Universal Orlando has scheduled a nearly 11-month refurbishment of Jurassic Park River Adventure, from January 5, 2026 to November 19, 2026.
- Universal describes it as “planned maintenance.”
- This will be one of the longest single-ride closures at Universal Orlando in recent memory.
Likely reasons / what may be done:
- Water rides like this endure heavy wear from pumps, hydraulics, and constant moisture exposure.
- Universal may replace or refurbish water delivery systems, control systems, ride vehicles, show elements, and electrical infrastructure.
- The length of closure suggests deep mechanical overhauls and upgraded animatronics or show scenes.
Because this closure is already confirmed, treat it as certain when planning your 2026 trip.
Other Temporary & Short Refurbishments
Universal Orlando periodically shuts down rides for shorter periods for maintenance and technical upgrades. These are usually planned and less disruptive. Current patterns include:
- Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls (Islands of Adventure): Historically closed in October for maintenance.
- Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges: Often closed for a month or so from February to March for refurbishments.
- Jurassic Park River Adventure: Minor closures in prior years (e.g., January 2025) for routine work.
These short-term closures usually last from a few days to a few weeks and are intended to keep rides safe and reliable.
Why Rides Close: The Underlying Logic
1. Maintenance & Safety Compliance
All rides need regular inspection, part replacement, and safety system upgrades. Short-term closures let the parks maintain compliance, reduce wear, and catch issues early.
2. Deep Refurbishment & Overhaul
When systems age—especially in water rides—the park needs extended downtime to replace major components. The Jurassic Park River Adventure refurbishment is the perfect example.
3. Redevelopment & Replacement
The Rip Ride Rockit removal is more than just upkeep. Universal is making strategic land-use decisions to improve guest flow and introduce next-generation experiences with stronger intellectual property ties.
4. Operational Efficiency & Guest Demand
Underperforming or maintenance-intensive rides may be retired so Universal can reinvest in attractions that deliver higher throughput and guest satisfaction.
What This Means for Guests & Itinerary Planning
- Ride “last chances” early. If you want to experience Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit, plan your trip before August 2025 and ride it early in the day.
- Mind the 2026 blackout on Jurassic Park River Adventure. In 2026, this headline attraction will be offline for almost the entire year.
- Prioritize must-see attractions early. When closures are announced, visit them at park open to avoid schedule surprises.
- Use downtime to explore alternate experiences. When a major ride is closed, crowd patterns shift—take advantage of shorter waits elsewhere.
- Watch for replacement announcements. Universal typically reveals a new attraction soon after retiring a major one. Keep an eye on official news outlets.
Summary Table: Universal Orlando Closures & Refurbishments (2025–2026)
Attraction | Park / Land | Closure Type | Closure Window | Notes / Reason |
---|---|---|---|---|
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit | Universal Studios Florida | Permanent removal | August 18, 2025 (final ride Aug 17) | Closing to make way for a new attraction; replacement unannounced |
Jurassic Park River Adventure | Islands of Adventure | Major refurbishment | Jan 5, 2026 – Nov 19, 2026 | Extensive mechanical and show system overhaul |
Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls | Islands of Adventure | Temporary | Typically mid-Oct (varies) | Routine maintenance |
Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges | Islands of Adventure | Temporary | Typically Feb–Mar | Seasonal refurbishment |
Jurassic Park River Adventure | Islands of Adventure | Temporary (past) | Jan 6 – Jan 23, 2025 | Routine maintenance in prior years |
Final Thoughts
Focusing exclusively on Universal Orlando, the key takeaways for 2025–2026 are clear:
- Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit is permanently shutting down in August 2025. Ride it before then if it’s on your list.
- Jurassic Park River Adventure will be offline for most of 2026 for major upgrades—plan accordingly.
- Other refurbishments will be short-term and focused on routine safety and upkeep.
Keeping track of these changes can help you make the most of your visit. Check Universal Orlando’s official refurbishment calendar regularly, and stay tuned for future announcements about new attractions that will redefine the park’s skyline in the years ahead.

Celebrate the Holidays at Universal Orlando’s Epic Universe: A Complete Planning Guide
Experience Universal Orlando’s newest park like never before! Our complete 2025 holiday guide to Epic Universe covers seasonal décor, dining, itineraries, and insider tips for a magical winter visit.
Celebrate the Holidays at Epic Universe: Your Ultimate 2025 Guide
The 2025 holiday season marks a landmark moment — it’s the very first time Epic Universe will fully participate in Universal Orlando’s winter festivities. From November 21, 2025 through January 4, 2026, guests can find seasonal magic woven into select corners of this newly opened park. This guide dives deep into what to expect in each land, how best to experience the holiday atmosphere, itinerary ideas, insider tips, and what may come in future years. Let’s unwrap the holidays at Epic Universe.
Overview: Holiday Season Dates & What’s Confirmed
Dates: November 21, 2025 – January 4, 2026 (resort-wide holiday season)
Epic Universe Participation: For the first time, Epic Universe will be part of Universal’s holiday celebrations.
Confirmed Decor Locations:
• Celestial Park will feature seasonal lighting and decorations.
• The Wizarding World – Ministry of Magic (Epic Universe version) will be adorned with festive garlands, lights, and themed décor.Other Lands’ Status:
• Super Nintendo World has not been confirmed to receive a holiday overlay in this first season; Universal may delay decorations until later years.
• Dark Universe is a land with moody aesthetic that could lend itself to a darker twist on holiday theming, though full details are unconfirmed.
• Isle of Berk (How to Train Your Dragon) likewise has no confirmed seasonal transformation this year.
In short: your holiday experience at Epic Universe will center primarily in Celestial Park and the Ministry of Magic land, with the rest of the park delivering its usual immersive attractions without (yet) a full seasonal overlay.
Meet the Lands: Holiday Highlights & What to Explore
Below is a breakdown of how each of the five Epic Universe lands may—or may not—transform during the holiday season, plus tips for making the most of them.
Celestial Park — The Festive Hub
As the central “world between worlds,” Celestial Park is the beating heart of Epic Universe. This season, it will serve as the park’s holiday anchor.
Expect sweeping architectural lighting: building façades, walkways, archways, and garden features will be lit up with seasonal accents.
The portal areas and paths leading to other lands may be lined with garlands, stylized wreaths, and tasteful winter motifs.
Celestial Park already boasts more than seven million individually-controllable embedded LEDs in its design. Those lights may be incorporated into holiday lighting sequences or shows.
Photo opportunities: at sunset and after dark, Celestial Park may become one of the most striking areas to pause and capture the illuminated ambiance.
If you plan carefully, Celestial Park might serve as a relaxing central zone to revisit at night when crowds thin and the holiday lighting feels most magical.
The Wizarding World – Ministry of Magic (Epic Universe)
This version of the Wizarding World is one of the feature draws for holiday theming in the park.
Expect classic wizarding décor: garlands, glowing lights, Magical touches that tie into the lore of the Ministry and wizarding winter aesthetics.
Seasonal merchandise: anticipate exclusive holiday or winter-themed wizarding souvenirs, ornaments, and specialty apparel in Ministry shops.
Seasonal treats: hot Butterbeer (or seasonal variants), bakery items, and winter-inspired sweets may be available in this land just as they are in Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade elsewhere in the resort.
Enchanted ambiance: while large-scale shows (like projection mapping) are not yet confirmed in Epic Universe’s Wizarding World, expect lighting cues, mood music, and themed sensory touches to heighten the holiday feel.
If you’re a fan of the Wizarding World, this land offers perhaps the richest holiday overlay in Epic Universe this year.
Super Nintendo World
As one of Universal’s highly-IP’d lands, Super Nintendo World is a visual and interactive space. However:
In other Universal parks, Nintendo lands often wait until a second year before introducing seasonal overlays.
That suggests for 2025, Super Nintendo World may remain in its “base” theming, relying perhaps on subtle seasonal lighting (if any) or themed snacks rather than full decorative transformations.
Still, it’s a fun and lively land year-round: take advantage of interactive elements, character interactions, and game-style encounters while exploring the rest of the park’s holiday overlay.
Dark Universe
With its gothic, monster-lore aesthetic, Dark Universe presents interesting possibilities for holiday theming. For this inaugural season:
Full holiday décor is unconfirmed.
Creative holiday contrasts may emerge: moody snow, subtle lighting, thematic twists on winter folklore, or darker holiday motifs (think old-world European winter) might be stealthy enhancements rather than bold transformations.
Even without a heavy seasonal overlay, Dark Universe still offers immersive environments and rides that contrast sharply with the bright holiday décor elsewhere — which can create a compelling and varied “holiday through darkness” experience.
Isle of Berk (How to Train Your Dragon)
This Viking-inspired land is another contender for eventual seasonal theming, though not confirmed in Year 1.
No official holiday transformation is listed yet.
In future years, Universal could introduce "Snoggletog"-style winter touches (borrowing from the source material’s winter festival) — snow-dusted lanterns, themed treats, or festive dragon lighting displays.
For 2025, enjoy the land in its default immersive state, and use adjacency to Celestial Park or Ministry for your seasonal moments.
How to Plan Your Epic Universe Holiday Visit
Tickets, Access, & Timing
Epic Universe opened May 22, 2025.
At the current stage, multi-day Universal Orlando tickets include one day of admission to Epic Universe. Universal Destinations & Experiences+2Undercover Tourist+2
A single-day Epic Universe ticket price starts around $139 (before extras).
Because only one Epic Universe day is typically included, plan your holiday-overlay day strategically and combine it with visits to the other parks.
Arrive early (park opening / “rope drop”) to experience the holiday décor in quieter conditions before crowds swell.
Itinerary Suggestions (Holiday-Focused)
Here’s a sample 3-day itinerary that maximizes the holiday experience inside the park.
DayMorningAfternoonEvening / NightDay A – Holiday Debut at EpicArrive at opening, head straight to Celestial Park to enjoy the holiday lighting and architecture before midday.Explore the Ministry of Magic land with seasonal decor and treats. Ride signature attractions in other lands.Return to Celestial Park and Wizarding World after sunset to absorb the illumination. End your night with a slower-paced stroll.Day B – Revisit Favorites & Photo OpsReenter early. Focus on Dark Universe and Isle of Berk (for contrast) while holiday crowds concentrate in the decorated zones.Leisurely lunch in a themed dining location; revisit favorite rides or hidden corners.Return to Celestial Park near dusk for images, then exit through portal areas lit beautifully.Day C – Flex / Rest & RecapOptional reentry (if your ticket allows) to revisit your top holiday moments.Shopping, holiday merchandise hunting, and relaxing in quieter parts of the park.Depart with a final evening stroll under festive lights in Celestial or Ministry.
Best Times & Crowd Strategies
Visit during weekdays in late November or early December (before holiday break crowds).
Use the Universal Orlando app to monitor wait times and plan visits to the decorated lands when lines are lowest.
Reserve any available dining or experience slots early, especially in Ministry or Celestial restaurants.
In the evening, some parts of the park (especially Celestial Park) may feel more peaceful as guests depart — that’s your moment.
Holiday Extras, Merchandise & Dining Highlights
Seasonal Dining & Treats
While Universal has not published a full holiday menu for Epic Universe, you can expect:
Seasonal drink offers like hot Butterbeer variants or winter-themed beverages in Ministry.
Festive desserts (cupcakes, cookies, specialty confections) in Celestial Park eateries and bakery-style venues.
Themed decor in dining areas — garlands, subtle lighting, and cozy touches in restaurants near holiday zones.
Merchandise & Keepsakes
Limited-edition holiday ornaments, clothing, and keepsakes tied to Ministry and Celestial décor will likely be featured in shops within those lands.
Even in non-decorated lands, guests may find subtler seasonal variants of popular merchandise.
Be early: holiday merchandise tends to sell out, especially in the themed zones.
Photo Opportunities & Lighting Moments
Celestial Park at dusk and nighttime is your prime photo zone, with architectural lighting and seasonal hues.
Ministry of Magic walkways draped in garlands provide atmospheric frames for pictures.
Portal archways and transitions between lands may be accentuated with light effects.
Capture moments before crowds fully fill the park — early evening or just before closing can be ideal.
What This Year Tells Us — And What’s Next
This inaugural season at Epic Universe is part of Universal’s broader holiday expansion.
The holiday inclusion is not merely additive décor — Universal is using this moment to enhance and evolve the guest experience in this new park.
In future seasons, expect holiday overlays to expand deeper into all lands, including Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, and Isle of Berk.
Because Epic Universe is designed to evolve, this first holiday run sets expectations: holiday lighting, mood, seasonal dining, and immersive touches will likely scale each year.
Final Tips & What to Watch For
Check for official announcements close to November — Universal may reveal additional shows, lighting sequences, or holiday-specific entertainment.
Focus your holiday day on Celestial Park and Ministry — those are your best bets for festive immersion.
Balance thrill and ambiance — use quieter times to enjoy less-decorated lands while crowds cluster in holiday zones.
Stay late — evening illumination in Celestial Park and Ministry will be one of your most magical memories.
Bring a good camera or smartphone — holiday lighting makes for dramatic visuals.
Be flexible — since not every land is decorated yet, adjust your plan on the fly based on crowd flow and lighting conditions.
Watch for seasonal enhancements in future years — if you visit again, expect even more holiday presence across Epic Universe.
Epic Universe’s debut holiday season may not yet be a full winter wonderland across every land, but it promises a fresh, inspired take on holiday magic. With festive lighting in Celestial Park, immersive décor in the Ministry, and the contrast of the park’s unadorned lands, your holiday visit will feel unique and original.

Universal Retires TapuTapu Wristbands at Volcano Bay: What It Means for Guests
Universal Orlando has officially retired its TapuTapu wristbands and virtual lines at Volcano Bay. Discover why the wearable tech is being phased out, what replaces it, and how this change will affect your next visit in 2025 and beyond.
Universal Orlando has officially confirmed that TapuTapu wristbands — the waterproof wearables used for virtual queues and interactive features at Volcano Bay — have been retired as of October 1, 2025. This change ends an eight-year run for one of Universal’s most innovative systems and marks a major shift in how guests will experience the water theme park.
If you’re planning a visit, here’s what this decision means, why it’s happening, and how you can prepare for the new experience at Volcano Bay.
What TapuTapu Was — and Why It Mattered
When Volcano Bay opened in 2017, Universal introduced TapuTapu as a signature innovation designed to eliminate long lines and make the park more interactive. The wristband was waterproof, free for every guest, and linked seamlessly to the park’s digital infrastructure.
Here’s what TapuTapu offered before its retirement:
TapTu Ride (Virtual Line): Guests tapped their wristband at ride totems to reserve a return time. The band would vibrate when it was time to ride, letting guests relax or enjoy other areas instead of waiting in a physical queue.
TapTu Play: Interactive points around the park allowed guests to activate water jets, lighting effects, or tiki-themed surprises just by tapping the band.
TapTu Pay: The band could be linked to a payment method in the Universal Orlando app, letting guests make cashless purchases for food, drinks, or merchandise.
TapTu Snap: Certain ride and photo-op stations automatically connected to your TapuTapu, uploading photos to your account.
Locker Access: TapuTapu served as a key to park and cabana lockers, reducing the need to carry keys or cards around the park.
The system was meant to blend convenience and creativity — and for many guests, it worked beautifully. TapuTapu quickly became a defining feature of Volcano Bay, setting it apart from other water parks.
Why Universal Is Retiring TapuTapu
Universal has not released a detailed official statement about why TapuTapu is being retired. However, based on statements to media outlets and coverage by Inside Universal, Orlando Informer, and TouringPlans, several contributing factors are likely.
1. Technical and Maintenance Challenges
Operating a park-wide system with thousands of wearables is expensive and complex. Guests occasionally reported connectivity issues, trouble linking accounts, or wristbands falling off during slides. Maintaining the devices, sensors, and totems added ongoing costs and downtime for technical fixes.
2. Simplifying Operations
Starting October 1, 2025, Universal shifted Volcano Bay to traditional standby queues. Instead of reserving return times, guests now simply join the physical line for each attraction.
While this seems like a step backward, it simplifies crowd management and reduces the risk of glitches that can disrupt the guest experience. For many visitors, especially first-timers, the system will now feel more familiar and straightforward.
3. Preparing for Upcoming Refurbishments
Volcano Bay is scheduled for an extended closure from October 26, 2026 through March 24, 2027 for routine maintenance and refurbishment. The timing suggests Universal might be using this transition period to reevaluate or redesign certain systems — possibly introducing new app-based or touchless technologies in the future.
4. Guest Feedback
Although TapuTapu was innovative, not all guests loved it. Some found the interface confusing, or felt limited when they could hold only one virtual line at a time. Moving to a simpler, more predictable standby model may align better with guest expectations in the long run.
What’s Changing at Volcano Bay
With TapuTapu gone, several core features of Volcano Bay are evolving. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect if you’re visiting after October 1, 2025.
A. Standby Queues Replace Virtual Lines
Guests now access each attraction directly — no reservations, no return windows. You’ll simply wait in a physical line. This change eliminates the “wait while you play” freedom TapuTapu offered but ensures more transparency in wait times.
B. Interactive Features Still Exist — Without the Band
Many of the playful TapTu Play elements remain, but now guests activate them manually. Buttons or sensors near those locations trigger effects like water sprays or tiki animations, preserving the fun without the wearable tech.
C. Locker Access Is Being Simplified
Universal has reworked locker access for the post-TapuTapu era. Guests now rent lockers using kiosks or attendants, and access methods vary by location. Universal has not detailed whether any replacement bands or codes will be issued; for now, expect a standard digital or physical locker process similar to other water parks.
D. Cashless Payments Move to Mobile and Card
TapTu Pay has been discontinued. Guests can now use credit cards, mobile wallets, or Universal’s official app for payments throughout the park.
E. Photo Collection Now Manual
Ride and on-site photos can still be captured, but guests must scan or link them manually to their Universal account or Photo Connect card. Automatic uploads via TapuTapu are no longer available.
Pros and Cons of the Change
Removing TapuTapu brings both benefits and drawbacks for guests and operators.
Pros
Smoother Operations:
Without thousands of devices to maintain and sync, park operations become less complex and more reliable.Lower Maintenance Costs:
Universal no longer needs to repair or replace wearable hardware or maintain specialized network equipment.Predictable Queues:
Standby lines allow for more traditional crowd flow and better capacity forecasting during peak days.Opportunity for Future Tech:
By retiring an aging proprietary system, Universal frees itself to develop new, app-based queue tools or next-generation wearable tech.Cons
Loss of Convenience:
Guests lose the ability to “wait virtually” and explore the park between rides — one of Volcano Bay’s biggest perks.Potentially Longer Waits:
Without virtual queuing, guests may spend more time standing in physical lines during busy periods.Reduced “Wow Factor”:
TapuTapu was an experiential differentiator. Its removal could make Volcano Bay feel more like a conventional water park.Guest Confusion During Transition:
Regular visitors who expect TapuTapu might be surprised or frustrated to find it gone, especially early in the changeover period. How to Plan Your Visit Now
If you’re visiting Volcano Bay after October 2025, these strategies will help you make the most of your day:
Arrive Early:
The first two hours after opening typically have the shortest waits. Head straight for headliners like Krakatau Aqua Coaster or Ko’okiri Body Plunge.Check the Universal Orlando App:
Even without TapuTapu, the Universal app lists live wait times, show schedules, and park maps — all critical for smart navigation.Use Mobile Pay or Bring a Waterproof Wallet:
Since TapTu Pay is gone, set up Apple Pay, Google Pay, or carry a waterproof lanyard wallet for convenience.Plan Breaks Strategically:
Without virtual queues, take breaks during midday peaks (usually 11 a.m.–3 p.m.) when waits are longest.Consider Staying On-Site:
Guests at Universal’s on-site hotels get early park admission, which is especially valuable now that everyone joins standby lines.Stay Informed:
Universal may test or introduce new digital queue tools before or after the 2026-2027 refurbishment. Keep an eye on official announcements. Why This Change Might Actually Be a Smart Move
While some fans are understandably disappointed, there are several reasons this move may make long-term sense:
Reliability Over Novelty:
TapuTapu was ambitious but occasionally buggy. A simpler model reduces tech headaches and guest complaints.Operational Reset Before Epic Universe Opens (2025):
With Universal’s new park, Epic Universe, debuting in 2025, streamlining operations at existing parks helps focus attention and resources on the expansion.Flexibility for Future Systems:
Removing TapuTapu clears the way for Universal to experiment with mobile-based queue systems similar to Disney’s Genie+ or to adopt more modern wearable technology later. The Future of Volcano Bay
Volcano Bay’s planned closure from October 26, 2026 through March 24, 2027 is officially described as a seasonal refurbishment — standard for water parks, but the longest in Volcano Bay’s history. No new attractions have been announced yet, but the extended downtime could signal broader updates to park infrastructure or systems.
Given Universal’s track record of innovation, it’s reasonable to expect that TapuTapu’s retirement isn’t the end of technological enhancements — just a reset before something more advanced arrives.
Final Thoughts
The end of TapuTapu marks the close of an era for Volcano Bay. For years, the little waterproof wristband represented the cutting edge of theme-park design — a promise that technology could replace waiting with freedom.
Now, Universal is pivoting toward simplicity, reliability, and preparation for the park’s next chapter. Whether you view the move as a step backward or a strategic refresh, it reflects a broader trend in theme-park operations: balancing innovation with practicality.
For guests, the takeaway is clear — Volcano Bay will still deliver its tropical thrills and immersive environment, just without the tech on your wrist.

Riding the Brightline Train from Orlando: A Complete Guide for Florida Travelers
Discover what it’s like to ride Brightline from Orlando to Aventura. From Premium Lounges to high-speed comfort, this is Florida travel reimagined. Watch my full journey on YouTube!
A New Way to Travel in Florida
If you’re planning a Florida vacation, you’ve probably already thought about flights, rental cars, and even driving yourself around the state. But what if I told you there’s a high-speed train that makes travel between Orlando and South Florida not only easier—but way more enjoyable?
A northbound Brightline train arrives at Aventura for an afternoon run to Orlando.
That’s exactly what Brightline offers. This sleek, modern train service connects Orlando with cities like Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and Aventura, reaching speeds up to 125 mph. For family vacationers, Orlando travelers, and anyone who loves theme parks and cruises, Brightline is quickly becoming one of the best ways to get around Florida.
I recently took the Brightline from Orlando to Aventura, and I filmed the entire experience so you can see exactly what it’s like. Spoiler alert: it feels less like a train ride and more like flying business class on the ground. You can watch my full journey here 👇
👉 Watch the full Brightline Orlando to Aventura experience on YouTube
🏟️ Starting at the Brightline Orlando Station
My trip began at the brand-new Brightline Orlando Station, located at Orlando International Airport. If you’re flying into Orlando for a Disney World or Universal Orlando vacation, this is incredibly convenient—you can land, grab your luggage, and head straight for the train without ever stepping outside.
The station itself feels more like an airport terminal than a train station. It’s spacious, modern, and built with travelers in mind. There’s plenty of seating, a check-in process that’s smooth and easy, and if you’ve booked Premium Class, you’ll have access to the Premium Lounge, which is a game-changer.
🍷 Inside the Brightline Premium Lounge
Brightline has two ticket options: Smart Class (their standard option) and Premium Class, which offers a more elevated travel experience. Since I wanted to see what all the hype was about, I opted for Premium.
Breakfast offerings at the Premium Lounge at the Brightline Orlando Train Station
The Premium Lounge in Orlando was impressive. Comfortable seating, complimentary snacks and drinks (yes, even wine and beer), and a quiet place to relax before boarding. If you’re traveling with kids, it’s also a lifesaver because it gives everyone space to decompress before hopping on the train.
This lounge alone already had me feeling like I was about to fly, not take a train.
🚄 All Aboard: The Brightline Train Experience
When it was time to board, the process was simple. Premium passengers board first, and the staff made everything easy. Walking into the Premium car, the first thing I noticed was how spacious and comfortable the seating was compared to what you might expect from a traditional train.
Seats: Wide, cushioned, and designed for comfort
Legroom: Plenty of space, even if you’re tall
Service: Complimentary drinks and snacks brought right to your seat
Wi-Fi and Outlets: Perfect for staying connected or charging devices
Brightline markets itself as a “different kind of train experience,” and they’re not kidding. Traveling at 125 mph while sipping a complimentary drink and stretching out in a comfy seat felt worlds away from the cramped flights and long car rides I’ve taken in Florida before.
📍 Arriving at Aventura Station
After a smooth ride, I arrived at Aventura Station, which is another beautifully designed stop along Brightline’s route. The station sits conveniently near Aventura Mall, one of the largest malls in Florida, and it’s a great jumping-off point if you’re planning to continue into Miami or Fort Lauderdale.
Aventura Station | Brightline
For my trip, I explored some of the local attractions around Aventura, including food spots and shopping. This is one of the perks of Brightline—it doesn’t just drop you off in a random spot; stations are strategically placed near major hubs.
👨👩👧 Why Brightline is Perfect for Orlando Family Vacations
If you’re visiting Orlando for Disney World, Universal Orlando, or even a cruise out of Port Canaveral, Brightline adds a new option for extending your trip. Here’s why I think it’s perfect for families and vacationers:
No Rental Cars Needed – Skip the hassle of driving on I-95.
Stress-Free Travel – No long TSA lines like the airport.
Comfort for Kids – Spacious seating, Wi-Fi, and the ability to move around.
Easy Connections – Arrive in Orlando, hop on Brightline, and head straight to South Florida.
It’s also worth mentioning that for grandparents or extended family joining you in Florida, this is a safe and easy way for them to travel, too.

I can tell you all about Brightline, but the truth is—you really need to see it to believe it. From the station in Orlando to the Premium Lounge, to the 125-mph ride itself, I captured it all in my video.

Universal Orlando’s Express Pass Unlimited vs. Disney World’s Lightning Lane Premier Pass: Which Is Better?
Planning a trip to Orlando? Compare Universal Orlando’s Express Pass Unlimited and Disney World’s Lightning Lane Unlimited to see which line-skipping service saves more time, money, and stress.
When planning a theme park vacation, one of the biggest decisions families face is whether to invest in a line-skipping service. Both Universal Orlando Resort and Walt Disney World now offer premium options that promise to cut down wait times and maximize your day. Universal’s Express Pass Unlimited and Disney’s Lightning Lane Premier Pass are the two most powerful tools in Orlando for skipping the standby queue. But how do they actually compare? Which offers better value, flexibility, and convenience?
Let’s dive into a detailed comparison of Universal Express Unlimited vs. Disney Lightning Lane Premier Pass so you can decide which one is right for your trip.
What Is Universal Express Unlimited?
Universal’s Express Pass Unlimited allows guests to skip the regular standby line and enter an expedited Express queue for most rides and attractions. Unlike the base Express Pass, which only lets you skip each participating ride once per day, the Unlimited version truly lives up to its name: you can ride the same attraction as many times as you want, all through the faster line.
That means if you’re obsessed with Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey or Jurassic World VelociCoaster, you’re free to loop back around multiple times with minimal waiting.
Express Unlimited is sold as a per-day add-on to your ticket. Pricing is date-based, and the more crowded the parks are expected to be, the more expensive the pass will be. It can also sell out on peak days.
What Is Disney’s Lightning Lane Premier Pass?
Disney’s line-skipping system is more layered and complicated. At Walt Disney World, most guests use Lightning Lane which requires you to book return times for the Lightning Lane Line access throughout the day. However, there’s also a premium tier often referred to as the Premier Access option.
This option, when available, functions more like Universal’s Express Pass. Instead of reserving time slots, you get one-time access to every Lightning Lane-eligible ride in a single park without booking windows. You simply walk up and scan in.
The catch? You only get one use per attraction. So while you’ll save time at nearly every major ride, you can’t re-ride your favorites through the Lightning Lane under the Unlimited plan. If you want to ride again, you’ll need to join the standby queue.
How the Two Systems Differ
1. Unlimited vs. One-Time Use
Universal Express Unlimited: Truly unlimited. You can ride the same attraction again and again.
Disney Lightning Lane Premier Pass: One Lightning Lane entry per attraction. Repeat rides must be in standby.
This difference is huge for thrill-seekers or anyone who wants to ride headliners multiple times.
2. Reservations vs. Flexibility
Universal: No reservations needed. Walk up to the ride when you want and use the Express line.
Disney Premier: While you won’t need to schedule times as with regular Lightning Lane, remember that it’s only one use per ride.
3. Park Access
Universal Express Unlimited: Can be purchased for one park (Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure) or both if you have a park-to-park ticket.
Disney Lightning Lane Premier Pass: Valid only in one park per day.If you’re hopping between Disney parks, you’ll need separate purchases.
4. Participating Attractions
Universal: Every ride included, except Pteranodon Flyers.
Disney World: Covers most Lightning Lane attractions, but if Lightning Lane isn’t offered, Premier Pass won’t be accepted. Fortunately, most rides have a Lightning Lane.
5. Pricing
Universal Express Unlimited: Prices vary by date and demand, typically ranging from $100–$350+ per person, per day.
Disney Lightning Lane Unlimited (Premier): Also dynamic pricing, with costs varying by park and crowd levels but typicaly fall in the $300 - $400 range per person, per day. For example, in October 2025, prices at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom reached $449 on busy dates.
Neither is cheap, but both can be worth it during peak crowds when lines stretch over an hour each.
6. Availability
Both systems are capacity-controlled. Universal sells a limited number of Express Unlimited passes each day, and Disney restricts its Lightning Lane Unlimited sales as well. If you’re traveling during holidays or school breaks, booking early is essential.
The Guest Experience: What It Feels Like in the Parks
Universal Orlando
Using Express Unlimited is straightforward. You stroll to the ride, flash your pass, and head into a shorter line. Waits are often 10–20 minutes instead of 60+. For popular rides, this can be a massive time saver. Since you can re-ride endlessly, the experience feels indulgent—you’re truly buying time and freedom.
Families who want to squeeze everything into a short trip often find Express Unlimited invaluable. It’s also especially nice for thrill-seekers who want to marathon coasters or immerse themselves in the Wizarding World without constantly strategizing.
At Walt Disney World
Lightning Lane Premier Pass simplifies Disney’s previous Genie+ system. Instead of waking up early, booking return times, and juggling the app, you just head to the rides. For those who dislike planning, this is a huge stress reliever.
However, the one-time limit per ride can feel restrictive. If your kids love Slinky Dog Dash and want to ride it twice, you’ll only skip the line once. That means your day still requires some standby patience.
Which One Saves More Time?
This depends on how you tour the parks.
Universal Express Unlimited is generally the bigger time-saver for guests who want to ride a lot, repeat favorites, or maximize a short stay. The ability to skip lines multiple times per ride makes it more powerful.
Disney Lightning Lane Unlimited is more about convenience and simplicity than sheer ride count. It guarantees you’ll hit most attractions once without hassle but won’t let you marathon rides.
Cost vs. Value: Who Wins?
Universal: If you’re visiting for one or two days and want to experience nearly everything, Express Unlimited is worth the premium. You’ll easily double or triple your ride count compared to standby guests.
Disney: The Unlimited option makes sense if you hate app-based planning or are visiting on a packed day. But if your group loves to re-ride, its one-time rule might feel limiting.
Who Should Choose Universal Express Unlimited?
Families with older kids or adults who love thrill rides.
Visitors with short trips who want to “do it all.”
Anyone visiting during peak seasons when wait times explode.
Theme park fans who want the freedom to re-ride without restrictions.
Who Should Choose Disney Lightning Lane Unlimited?
First-time visitors who want to guarantee one ride on each headliner.
Guests visiting on high-crowd days when Genie+ sells out.
Travelers who don’t care as much about re-rides but want smoother touring.
Final Verdict
Both systems deliver on their promise to save time, but they cater to different kinds of parkgoers. Universal Express Unlimited is the more powerful option because of its true unlimited nature. You can ride to your heart’s content, and that freedom justifies its high cost for many visitors.
Disney’s Lightning Lane Premier Access Saves time however, the one-time limit per ride means it doesn’t offer quite the same bang for your buck if you love repeats.
If you want the ultimate efficiency and thrill-seeker freedom, Universal’s Express Unlimited wins. If you’re visiting Disney and want to remove the stress of reservations, Lightning Lane Unlimited may be the smarter choice.
Extra Planning Tips
Buy early: Both passes can sell out, especially on holidays and weekends.
Factor it into your budget: The cost can rival or exceed your ticket price.
Check which rides are excluded: Don’t assume every ride is open, could be closed for maintenance or technical difficulties.
Consider your group’s style: If your kids love repeats, Universal is best. If they just want to try everything once, Disney may be fine.

How to Take Brightline from Orlando (And My Full Vlog Experience)
Ride Brightline from Orlando to Miami, Aventura & more. Tips, ticket guide, travel times, and my full vlog review of Brightline’s Premium & Smart class.
🚆 Why Brightline Matters for Orlando Travelers
If you’re planning a trip to South Florida from Central Florida, Brightline is a game-changer. The high-speed train now connects Orlando to Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and West Palm Beach, giving travelers a stress-free alternative to driving I-95 or booking short flights.
A Brightline train is ready for passengers at the Orlando station
I recently rode Brightline from Orlando to Aventura and documented the full journey in my vlog. You can watch it here. This article breaks down everything you need to know to use Brightline, with tips from my experience. I travel both, Premium Class and regular, so you can see both.
📍 Where to Board in Orlando
Brightline’s Orlando station is located at Orlando International Airport (MCO), directly integrated into Terminal C. Even if you’re not flying, you can park at the airport and walk right into the station.
Tip: Arrive at least 20–30 minutes before departure to check in, grab a snack, and enjoy the lounge areas.
🎟️ Choosing Your Ticket: Premium vs Smart
Brightline offers two ticket types:
Premium Class – Includes lounge access, complimentary food and drinks onboard, more spacious seating, and priority boarding.
Smart Class – More budget-friendly with comfortable seats and the option to purchase food and drinks.
👉 In my vlog, I tried both Premium and Smart so you can see the differences side by side. If you like extra perks, Premium is worth the upgrade. If you just want a quick, affordable ride, Smart is still fantastic.
Brightline Premium lounge at the Orlando station.
🛋️ What It’s Like Onboard
Brightline trains are clean, modern, and quiet — with Wi-Fi, power outlets, and plenty of legroom.
Premium passengers enjoy included snacks, beer, wine, and cocktails.
Smart passengers can purchase items from the café menu.
Families will love the roomy seating, and business travelers will appreciate the productivity-friendly setup.
🚉 Travel Time & Destinations
From Orlando to Aventura, the trip takes about 3.5 hours. Along the way, trains stop in:
West Palm Beach
Boca Raton
Fort Lauderdale
Aventura (where I stopped for my vlog)
MiamiCentral (the final stop)
🛍️ What to Do in Aventura (and Beyond)
In my trip, I got off at Aventura Station, which is directly connected to Aventura Mall — one of the largest malls in the country. From there, I headed to Hollywood Beach for some ocean views before wrapping up the night at Hard Rock Stadium for a Coldplay concert.
Your trip might look different, but Brightline makes it easy to hop off and explore different South Florida neighborhoods.
💡 Tips for First-Time Riders
Download the Brightline app for mobile boarding passes and easy booking.
Travel light — luggage racks are available, but space fills up quickly.
Bring headphones if you plan to work or nap; the train is family-friendly and sometimes lively.
Book early — weekend trains and special event days sell out fast.
Check out promotions — Brightline often runs discounts for families, groups, and early bookings.

7 Ways to Navigate Epic Universe Like a Pro (Full Guide)
Planning your first visit to Epic Universe? 🎢 My 7-step touring plan covers the best rides, dining spots, and night shows to make your day unforgettable. From Donkey Kong to Harry Potter, this guide helps you maximize every moment at Universal Orlando’s newest park.
I’ve been to Epic Universe quite a few times, and it's quickly become one of my favorite parks in Orlando! But I’ll tell you right now—if you don’t have Early Park Admission, you’re starting the day at a disadvantage. But that doesn’t mean you can’t win.”
Today, I’m sharing my personal strategy for touring Epic Universe without Early Entry.
Watch my video on how to save time in line at Epic Universe
#1 Start of Day: Celestial Park at Rope Drop
I always begin my day right at the gates of Celestial Park, arriving about 40 minutes prior to park opening. This allows me time to park, walk to the gate, and clear security without long waits. Universal will allow you into Celestial Park even before the park officially opens. This is the hub of Epic Universe, so I take some time to walk around and take it all in. Oh, and don’t skip the fountain show. Most guests breeze right by, but they’re beautiful and timed to music. And come back to watch them at night with the Helios Grand Hotel in the background. You’ll get some great photos and videos here.
Now, when the park opens, most guests make the same mistake: They rush toward Super Nintendo World or the Harry Potter Ministry ride. Don’t do that. Hotel guests with Early Park Admission flood those lands before you’re even allowed in. By the time you get there, those rides will already have wait times well over 150 minutes. The ministry will be more like 180 minutes when the park opens.
So instead of getting frustrated, I do something else. I go for Stardust Racers.
This is Epic Universe’s flagship coaster—a high-speed, dual-launch ride that soars above Celestial Park. If you’re here at rope drop, you can typically ride it with only a 10–20 minute wait. And trust me, it’s worth it. I always try to ride this twice—once in the morning, and again at night when the park lights are glowing. It’s a completely different experience.
But heads up: after sunset, the entire park seems to migrate here. The line can spike dramatically, and they will close the queue early if it gets too long. So lock this one in early.
#2 Isle of Berk (Mid-Morning)
After Stardust, I immediately head to Isle of Berk, home to the “How to Train Your Dragon” attractions. This land is designed with families in mind—but don’t let that fool you. There are some thrilling attractions here, and the entire space feels vibrant and energetic.
Now if meeting Toothless is high on your priority list, head there first when you enter Berk. This meet and greet is seriously impressive—Toothless is fully animated and interactive, but the wait gets long fast. I’ve seen it hit 55 minutes as soon as the park opens. So if this is a must-do for you or your kids, knock it out early before you start riding.
Isle of Berk at Epic Universe is based on the film, How to Train Your Dragon
Next stop? Hiccup’s Wing Gliders. This is a fast-moving family coaster and a favorite among both kids and adults. It’s also incredibly popular, so I try to hit it before the midday rush. Wait times hover around 60-70 minutes in the morning.
If you’re up for some chaotic fun, Dragon Racer Rally is a wild ride that lets you control your own spinning dragon. It’s great for families and surprisingly intense if you max out the controls. The line here is usually shorter than Wing Gliders, and it’s a solid second or third stop.
If I’m up for getting soaked, I’ll jump on Fyre Drill next. It’s a playful, interactive boat battle where you basically spray water at everyone and everything. The line will be under 30 minutes most of the morning, so it’s a great pick right now. Just keep in mind you’ll be very wet for a while. Ponchos can help, but even your shoes will get soaked.
And then there’s The Untrainable Dragon Show—a solid mix of animatronics, puppetry, and live performance. Personally, I save this one for later in the afternoon when the heat sets in and I need an air-conditioned break. But if you’re already in the area and don’t plan to return, catch the next showtime you can.
#3 Lunch and Rides in Dark Universe (Early Afternoon)
By early afternoon, it’s time to shift into something darker—literally. Dark Universe is the moody, monster-filled land of Epic Universe, and it’s one of the most atmospheric parts of the park. This is my favorite portal in Epic Universe.
I like to hit Curse of the Werewolf first. It’s family-friendly so the line builds quickly once guests finish Nintendo World and begin to head in this direction. It’s short and punchy—and the barn has a fun surprise, so keep your eyes peeled as you pass through.
But the main event here is Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment. This is my favorite dark ride in the entire park. Massive sets, brilliant effects, and an absolutely wild story. I would say this is the second flagship attraction in the park after Battle at the Ministry. And surprisingly, the wait times are usually very manageable, 10 to 35 minutes throughout most of the day.
By now, you’ll be thinking about lunch. I always recommend Das Stakehaus.it’s themed like a vampire steakhouse and one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had at a theme park. The theming is top-notch, and the food is just as impressive. Be sure to walk around the dining room—there are exhibits and story elements tucked into every corner.
If Das Stakehaus is full or too intense, Burning Blade Tavern is another solid pick. It’s more of a bar, but they serve light bites and have an amazing vibe. And if you’d rather keep it light and breezy, Pizza Moon over in Celestial Park is just a short walk away.
You might hop on the Constellation Carousel, which, honestly, is more stunning at night, but still charming in the daylight. There’s rarely a long line here, but it's something to do if you need a break from waiting in long lines.
#4 Afternoon: Wizarding World – Ministry of Magic
After lunch, I head over to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic. Now, here’s where this touring strategy really shines.
By mid-afternoon, the Early Park Admission crowd has moved on, and this part of the park becomes slightly more manageable. I’m not going to sugarcoat it—the lines here are still long. But compared to the 3-hour waits earlier in the day, you’ll be saving a huge chunk of time by arriving now.
Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Epic Unviverse
The main draw is Battle at the Ministry. It’s the park’s flagship dark ride—epic in scale, loaded with effects, and full of jaw-dropping visuals. And while the wait might still be 135 minutes, this strategy means you’re not burning your morning here like everyone else did. That’s a win.
But here’s the thing: this ride goes down—a lot. It’s a technical marvel, but not always a reliable one. I’ve seen it close multiple times a day. Even if the app says it’s down for good, don’t give up. Keep checking. I’ve seen it come back online with zero warning. You just have to stay flexible.
While you’re in this portal, take some time to enjoy the world around you. Harry Potter Ministry of Magic is loaded with incredible detail. If you have an interactive wand, now’s the time to use it. There are magical effects hidden all over the land—just follow the crowds of Harry Potter fans waving sticks at windows.
I usually skip the Le Cirque Arcanus show. I’m not a Harry Potter fan, so this show doesn’t interest me. It’s a great show if you love Harry Potter, or need some air conditioning; otherwise, skip it and continue on.
#5 Evening: Super Nintendo World
As the day winds down, I head to Super Nintendo World. This land is beautiful in the late afternoon light—and even better at dusk. It feels like you’ve stepped straight into a video game. And here’s the good news: by now, the early rush has passed, and wait times start to dip.
First up: Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge. This ride looks incredible, and the queue is one of the best in the park—especially if you're a longtime Nintendo fan. That said… the ride itself? Slightly overrated. Honestly, I think walking through the queue might be the best part.
Donkey Kong Mine Cart Madness
Wait times should be around 100 minutes now. After that, I always go for Mine Cart Madness—the Donkey Kong coaster. This one is worth the hype. It’s fast, bouncy, and has some really clever effects. The wait here can still hover around 60–70 minutes, even in the evening, but it’s often less than what you’d face earlier in the day.
For something slower-paced, don’t skip Yoshi’s Adventure. This gentle ride gives you an elevated view of the entire land. Even people who hate rides usually enjoy this one. Wait times are usually between 10 and 30 minutes now, compared to 70 minutes first thing in the morning.
Now, let’s talk about the hidden gem: Shadow Showdown.
Most guests don’t even know this exists. After you complete three Power-Up Band mini-games, you unlock access to this interactive finale. You literally use your own shadow to battle villains on a massive screen—it’s clever, fun, and strangely under-the-radar. If you’ve got kids or you just like cool tech, it’s totally worth the time and the price of the Power-Up Band.
And dinner? Toadstool Café. No question. The theme is adorable, and the food is adorable. I love what Universal did here - I mean, look at this toad pizza bowl. And the Toad animations in the windows are hilarious. Watch carefully—those animations go way beyond just looping characters waving at you. Stick around long enough, and you might catch something special.
If Toadstool Cafe is too cute for you, there’s a French-style quick service café in Wizarding World I’ll be honest—I can’t pronounce the name to save my life. But you’ll know it when you see it. Worth a stop. The Oak and Barrel Barbecue Restaurant in Celestial Park is another solid choice.
#6 Final Hour: Re-Rides, Night Views, and That Perfect Shot
The last hour before the park closes is prime time. The crowds thin out, the lights come on, and Epic Universe starts to glow in a way that’s hard to describe.
This is when I go back and re-ride a favorite. Sometimes it’s Stardust Racers, if I can beat the rush. Other times, I’ll wander through the Dark Universe just to take it all in.
If you’re in Dark Universe at night, do not miss the Burning Blade Tavern. Every 15 minutes, the windmill outside erupts into flames—actual fire. I don’t know why it’s so satisfying to watch a windmill burst into flames, but trust me... it is.
For photos and video, I always head back to Celestial Park for the nighttime fountain show. I position myself so that the Helios Grand Hotel is in the background. The view is spectacular, and the reflections off the water make it even better.
Just keep in mind: Even though the park closes at 9 p.m., some ride queues close early. They’ll stop letting guests in if the line is too long. So if you’ve got one more ride in mind, don’t wait too long to queue up.
Recap of My Touring Strategy
Here’s how my day usually plays out—roughly by time. I’ll post a link to my article where you can bookmark this recap and take it with you into the park.
10:00 am – Celestial Park: Stardust Racers, Carousel, fountains
10:30 am – Isle of Berk: Meet Toothless, Wing Gliders, Fyre Drill, Dragon Racers
12:30 pm – Dark Universe: Monsters Unchained, Werewolf coaster, lunch
2:30 pm – Wizarding World: Battle at the Ministry, wand play
5:00 pm – Super Nintendo World: Donkey Kong, Mario Kart, Shadow Showdown, Yoshi, dinner.
After 8:00 pm – Walk-throughs, Burning Blade and fountain shows, last re-ride
#7 Final Thoughts and Bonus Tips
This plan is not meant to be a minute-by-minute itinerary for touring Epic Universe. There are too many moving parts and something will likely hijack your day - a ride closure, thunderstorm, someone needs to rest for a while, etcetera. This is a general guide to point you in the right direction for your day.
So to pull this off, you’ve got to stay flexible.
Afternoon thunderstorms? Yeah, they’ll shut down 90% of the park in an instant. Just find cover, grab a snack, and wait it out. Most storms clear within the hour.
And keep an eye on the app—especially for attractions like Battle at the Ministry. That ride is unreliable, but incredible if you catch it when it’s running. Don’t give up just because it says “closed.”
Lastly, if Universal ever sends you a post-visit survey, tell them this: Please keep Epic Universe open later. This park is stunning at night, and closing at 9:00 p.m. is a massive missed opportunity.
So there you have it—my complete, battle-tested strategy for conquering Epic Universe without Early Park Admission. I’ll post a pinned comment with all the Epic Universe height requirements in case you’re traveling with kids.
If you’ve got your own tips or if this strategy worked for you, let me know in the comments. I’d love to hear how your visit went.

Do You Need to Activate the Universal Orlando Photo Package? Here’s My Experience
Wondering if you need to activate your Universal Orlando photo package before using it? Here’s my first-hand guide on how activation works, where to go, and how to save time.
When I head to Universal Orlando, I almost always add on the My Universal Photos package—it’s the easiest way to collect all the ride photos, character meet-and-greets, and those candid shots in front of the globe without fumbling with my phone. But there’s one question I get asked all the time:
Photo Shop at Universal Studios Florida
👉 “If I buy the Universal Orlando photo package, do I need to stop at the photo center to activate it?”
The short answer is yes—but it’s not as much of a hassle as you might think.
How the Activation Works
When you purchase My Universal Photos, whether you buy online ahead of time or at the park, you’ll still need to activate the package inside Universal Orlando. This step links your purchase to the physical photo pass cards you’ll use throughout the day.
Here’s where you can activate:
On Location at Universal Studios Florida
DeFoto’s Expedition Photography at Islands of Adventure
Waturi Marketplace at Volcano Bay
Or even the will-call window at the front gate
Once you activate, the team member gives you a lanyard and photo card—and you can request extras if your group is splitting up. Every card links back to your account, so all of your photos end up in one place.
Do You Have to Activate Right Away?
Nope! You don’t need to run straight to the photo center the minute you enter the park.
Here’s a pro tip I’ve learned: you can start using a temporary card that ride photographers hand out at attractions. When you finally stop by a photo center to activate your package, those early photos will be transferred over to your account. That way, you don’t waste rope-drop time standing in line.
My Advice
If you want to maximize your photo package:
Grab a temporary card as soon as you get your first photo taken.
Wait to activate until the middle of the day when crowds are lighter.
Ask for extra cards if your family is splitting up—it keeps everyone’s photos together.
For me, this system works perfectly. I get all my ride photos, family shots, and even those silly green-screen pictures without stressing.
Final Thoughts
Yes, you do need to activate your Universal Orlando photo package—but you don’t need to stress about it. Start snapping photos with a temporary card, then swing by a photo center when it’s convenient. You’ll walk away with a full album of memories without sacrificing valuable park time.

Inside Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort: My Full Experience
I just released a new video all about Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort! In this post, I share who this retro-themed, budget-friendly hotel is best for, plus some tips from my stay. If you’re considering Cabana Bay for your Orlando vacation, here’s what you need to know before booking.
Whenever I visit Orlando’s theme parks, I’m always looking for that sweet spot between convenience, comfort, and value. On my most recent trip, my family and I stayed at Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort, and I filmed the entire experience for my YouTube channel.
👉 You can watch my full video tour of Cabana Bay Beach Resort here: https://youtu.be/BSV__puCup4
But in this post, I want to do more than just share the video. I want to give you my honest take on who Cabana Bay Beach Resort is for — and who might want to look elsewhere.
Why I Chose Cabana Bay
I’ve stayed at plenty of Orlando hotels over the years, from budget motels to deluxe resorts. Cabana Bay caught my attention because it’s technically a “value” resort within Universal Orlando, but it offers way more personality and perks than your average budget hotel.
From the moment you drive up, Cabana Bay feels like you’ve stepped into a retro postcard from the 1960s. Neon lights, bold turquoise panels, and even a vintage bowling alley inside — it’s like the Jetsons meet Florida beach vacation.
For me, this wasn’t just about saving money. I wanted a resort that felt fun, had easy access to the parks, and still gave my family some space to relax. Cabana Bay checked all of those boxes.
Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Can you spot Krakatau Volcano in the background?
The Big Perks of Staying at Cabana Bay
Here’s what stood out to me during my stay:
Early Park Admission – Even though Cabana Bay doesn’t include Universal’s Express Pass (that’s for the pricier premier resorts), you do get early entry to Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay, and soon Epic Universe. This can make a huge difference for families trying to beat the crowds.
Direct Access to Volcano Bay – Cabana Bay is the only hotel with a private entrance to Universal’s water park. After spending a day in the sun, that easy walk back to the room really mattered.
Two Massive Pools + Lazy River – My kids couldn’t get enough of the lazy river. And I’ll be honest — I floated right alongside them.
Family-Friendly Dining Options – Bayliner Diner, the food court, has something for everyone (plus a Starbucks when I needed my caffeine fix).
Retro Fun – Between Galaxy Bowl, the Jack LaLanne fitness studio, and themed décor everywhere, the resort feels more like an experience than just a place to sleep.
See exactly what Cabana Bay Beach Resort is like in my latest video tour:
Who Cabana Bay Is Perfect For
Based on my stay, here’s my advice on who should consider booking Cabana Bay:
1. Families with Kids
The pools, lazy river, bowling alley, and casual dining make this a no-brainer for families. Kids will be entertained even if you take a “day off” from the parks.
2. Budget-Conscious Travelers
If you want to be on Universal property without paying deluxe resort prices, Cabana Bay is a solid middle ground. Rooms are straightforward but still themed and comfortable.
3. Theme Park Fans Who Want Convenience
The free shuttle buses and Volcano Bay entrance make it easy to maximize park time without the stress of driving or parking.
4. Retro & Design Enthusiasts
Honestly, even if you’re not a theme park person, the mid-century modern vibe is reason enough to stay. It feels like you’re living inside a vintage travel ad.
Who Might Want to Skip Cabana Bay
Of course, no resort is perfect. Cabana Bay might not be the right fit if:
You must have Universal’s Express Pass included. For that, you’ll need to book Hard Rock Hotel, Royal Pacific, or Portofino Bay.
You prefer luxury touches like fine dining, plush bedding, and upscale lobbies. Cabana Bay is fun and stylish, but it’s still a value-to-moderate category hotel.
You don’t like big resorts. With over 2,000 rooms, Cabana Bay is large and busy. If you want something more boutique, you’ll want to look elsewhere.
My Final Take
So, would I stay here again? Absolutely.
Cabana Bay Beach Resort is a fantastic choice if you’re visiting Universal Orlando with family, on a budget, or just want to soak up a playful retro atmosphere. It’s not about luxury — it’s about fun, convenience, and getting great value for what you pay.
If you’re planning your own Orlando vacation, I highly recommend checking out Cabana Bay. And if you want a full walkthrough of the resort, from the lobby to the lazy river, watch my video tour here: [Insert YouTube Link].
And if you’re already planning ahead to Universal’s brand-new Epic Universe park, you’ll want to see my guide on how to beat the crowds there. That’s right here: [Insert Link to Epic Universe Post/Video].

Universal Orlando Attraction Closures & Refurbishments – 2025 & Beyond
Several rides at Universal Orlando Resort will be closing temporarily for refurbishment in 2025, with one major coaster saying goodbye for good. Here’s the full list of dates so you can plan ahead.
Heads Up: A Few Attractions Are Taking a Short Break! 🛠️
If you’re planning a Universal Orlando trip in late 2025 or early 2027, it’s always smart to check which attractions might be down during your visit. While most rides and shows run year-round, the parks schedule short refurbishments to keep everything running smoothly — and sometimes, those closures bring major changes. Here’s what’s on the calendar right now (dates subject to change).
Revenge of the Mummy
📅 Closed August 11 – 13, 2025
Good news — this fan-favorite indoor coaster is only going down for a quick three-day tune-up. If you’re visiting around these dates, plan to ride before or after the closure window.
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit – PERMANENT CLOSURE
📅 Closing August 18, 2025
This is the big one. The towering music coaster at Universal Studios Florida will be closing permanently to make way for a brand-new experience. Universal hasn’t announced what’s replacing it yet, but stay tuned — we’ll update as soon as details drop.
Skull Island: Reign of Kong
📅 Closed August 20 – September 3, 2025
Kong is taking a short break for maintenance. This dark ride is popular for its massive animatronic finale, so a little TLC will only make it better.
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls
📅 Closed October 6 – 31, 2025
This cartoon-inspired log flume is closing for a few weeks during the fall. Considering the Florida heat, you may not miss it too much — but it’s still a fun one to ride if you love getting soaked.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
📅 Closed November 10 – 20, 2025
The signature attraction inside Hogwarts Castle will be closed for a short refurbishment. If this is a must-do for you, try to work around these dates when visiting The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade.
Volcano Bay – Seasonal Closure
📅 Closed October 26, 2026 – Reopening on or before March 24, 2027
Universal’s water theme park will be taking its longest break yet for seasonal maintenance. While Volcano Bay usually closes briefly in winter, this extended downtime could mean big upgrades are in store.
Plan Ahead & Stay Flexible
Attraction closures are a normal part of theme park operations, but with a little planning, you can still enjoy an incredible Universal Orlando vacation. Keep checking back here at OrlandoParksGuy.com for updates — especially if more details are released about Rip Ride Rockit’s replacement.

How to Use Uber / Lyft at Disney World and Universal Orlando
Uber and Lyft offer convenient rides to Walt Disney World, Orlando International Airport, and Universal Orlando. Avoid parking and shuttles with direct service, competitive prices, easy booking, and ride options from shared to premium. Park drop-offs are at designated zones; airport rides have real-time tracking for timely pickups. Perfect for solo travelers or groups, they simplify your Orlando trip.
Need to get to a Disney World restaurant or travel between Disney Resort hotels? Going to Orlando International Airport? How about a ride between Disney World and Universal Orlando? Uber and Lyft are widely available in Orlando and offer fast, reliable transportation.
Here are some of the most popular questions I get about using a Uber and Lyft in Orlando.
How much does it cost to go from Disney World to Universal Resort?
Fares will vary but usually around $20 - $30 each way.
Which is cheaper in Orlando? Lyft or Uber?
Lyft tends to have better rates than Uber. For example, Universal to Orlando International Airport is about $32 with Uber. Lyft is about $24.
Check both Uber and Lyft to compare rates before each ride.
Did you know that Disney World is 50 square miles? That’s twice the size of New York City!
How much does it cost to travel within Walt Disney World?
Average fares are about $8 - $16.
How long will I have to wait for Uber / Lyft to arrive?
Less than 10 minutes, in most cases cars come immediately.
Orlando International Airport (MCO)
Can you use Uber or Lyft from Orlando International Airport?
Yes, Uber and Lyft are available at Orlando Airport (MCO). Look for the “Ride App” signs on Level 2 to you guide to the pick up area.
Uber and Lyft will take you directly to your hotel where as some shuttle services stop at multiple hotels along the way.
Uber and Lyft are readily available at Disney World and Universal hotels when it’s time to go back to the airport (booo!)
Where does Uber and Lyft pick up at Universal Orlando?
Use the dedicated Uber Zone located in the Jurassic Park Garage. Uber is the official rideshare provider of Universal (Disney went with Lyft) so you’ll only see signs for Uber. But both companies pick up and drop off from this location.
If you’re visiting Volcano Bay water park, you can take a complimentary shuttle from the Uber Zone.
Signs for Uber and Lyft can be found throughout the exit of Universal Orlando directing you where to go.
Signs for Uber and Lyft can be found throughout the exit of Universal Orlando directing you where to go.
Can Uber and Lyft bypass the parking booths at the Orlando theme parks?
At Disney, yes, drivers will identify themselves to the parking attendant who will direct them to the drop-off area.
At Universal, drivers must use the Uber Zone drop-off center located in the Jurassic Park Garage.
Universal Orlando Resort
Can Uber / Lyft use Disney’s Contemporary Resort for Magic Kingdom drop-off and pick-up?
Sometimes yes, but security guard may redirect your driver to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC). This is likely to happen during busy times such as holidays and RunDisney weekends.
The official policy is that drivers must use the TTC as this is the official ride-share zone for Magic Kingdom Park.
If you have a dining reservation at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, your driver will be permitted to enter the lot.
How will the driver find me?
Drivers will see your GPS location but it’s helpful to send a message with your location and a description. Communication between you and your driver is important and they appreciate short descriptions!
For example, “I’m near the bell desk at Disney’s Polynesian VIllage Resort, wearing a gray Mickey Mouse shirt and blue shorts.”
How far in advance should I request my ride?
Drivers arrive pretty quick at Walt Disney World and Universal, so request your ride when you are standing in the pick up zone.
If you are requesting a ride from Magic Kingdom Park, first take the monorail or ferry to the Ticket at Transportation Center (TTC), then request your ride. You can only be picked up at the TTC, not at the Magic Kingdom.
Another option is to walk to Disney’s Contemporary Resort and request your ride once you are there.
At the TTC, drivers are probably already queued in the waiting zone and will pull up quickly.
Are car seats available through Uber and Lyft?
Yes, with Uber you can use Uber Car Seat for an additional fee, about $10. This may increase your wait time. Lyft is still working to introduce car seats as an option in Orlando.

My Epic Universe Touring Strategy (No Early Park Admission)
How to spend less time waiting in line at Epic Universe
Planning a trip to Universal’s Epic Universe without Early Park Admission (EPA)? No problem! I have perfected this strategy over multiple visits, so you can spend less time waiting in line. And be sure to catch my bonus insider tips at the end, so you can have even more fun in the park.
Epic Universe at Universal Orlando Resort
Epic Universe Key Strategy Tips:
With this plan, you’ll dodge the worst of the crowds, hit every must-do attraction, and soak up the park’s five immersive portals in the smartest order possible.
Arrive 30–45 minutes before official park opening.
Skip Super Nintendo World and Harry Potter first thing — hotel guests flood it early.
Use the Universal Orlando app to join any Virtual Queues, if offered.
Leverage Single Rider lines for re-rides or less important attractions. Single rider lines are about half-the posted wait time.
Watch for early line closures in the evening, while the park is opened until 9, some lines shut down prior to that.
Touring Strategy (Starting from Celestial Park)
1. Celestial Park (Rope Drop)
Start your day here — it's central and opens directly to all guests. Resist the temptation to ride Harry Potter Battle at the Ministry, it will have a 3-hour wait at regular park opening, thanks to all the EPA guests who flood this attraction first. The same is true for Super Nintendo World. So, let them wait for 3 hours, we are going to outsmart them and ride later, when the wait is half that time.
Stardust Racers
Stardust Racers (minimum 48” to ride) – This high-speed dual-launch coaster is a must-do and best tackled first. But I also recommend trying to ride it again at night. Keep in mind that as soon as the sun goes down, everyone flocks to the ride to experience it in the dark. So the wait time can jump up rapidly. They may even close the queue before 9 pm if the line gets too long. This ride typically has a 20-30 minute wait throughout most of the day.
Constellation Carousel – A whimsical ride you can do now or loop back to later. There’s hardly a long wait throughout most of the day. Try it during the day, and again at night.
Take a moment to watch the fountain shows, too.
2. How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk
Great theming and interactive fun await here mid-morning. While most people are rushing to Super Nintendo World and Harry Potter, Isle of Berk is relatively uncrowded. Isle of Berk is 95% outside, which means you won’t have any air conditioning breaks here except for the theater show, The Untrainable Dragon. So visit in the morning when temps are cooler than Orlando’s surface-of-the-sun afternoon temperatures. Along with thunderstorms. (More on thunderstorms coming up.)
Meet and Greet with Toothless - Meet Toothless, the beloved dragon from the How to Train Your Dragon series. This experience lets guests get up close with the friendly, animated Night Fury in a dynamic environment that offers photo opportunities and memorable interactions. The wait can easily reach 75 minutes, so if this is a must-do, head here first.
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders (minimum 40” to ride) – A thrilling family coaster, one of the most popular rides in Epic Universe.
Fyre Drill – Prepare to get super wet in this playful boat battle. Wait times remain pretty short until afternoon.
The Untrainable Dragon Show – Check the showtimes and work it into your day. I like to save this one for mid-afternoon when the park is hottest and I need a break, but if you don’t want to come back to this area, see the show any time.
Dark Universe at Epic Universe | Universal Orlando
3. Dark Universe
Hit this land in early afternoon and have lunch here.
Curse of the Werewolf (minimum 40” to ride) – Start with this coaster. It’s popular, and the line builds throughout the day. Especially when people start leaving Super Nintendo World, it’s a spooky family coaster, not too wild. Stay alert in the barn - and be sure to look up!
Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment (minimum 48” to ride) – One of the park’s most ambitious dark rides. I think this is the best ride in the park. Wait times are generally short for this ride throughout the day, often as low as 10 minutes, but may go as high as 35 minutes. The indoor queue is fantastic and you’ll have lots to look at.
Das Steakhaus is my recommended restaurant for lunch and/or dinner at Epic Universe
Consider Das Stakehaus for lunch. Das Steakhaus is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever experienced in a theme park. The food and atmosphere are outstanding. Be sure to take a moment to walk around the restaurant at the numerous exhibits. You’ll notice that vampires here are depicted as heroes rather than villains, which is such a creative take.
I also recommend Burning Blade Tavern. It’s a bar first, but they do have a light menu as well. It draws mostly adults but kids are welcome too.
Burning Blade Tavern erupts every 15 minutes
If these restaurants are a little too dark for you, consider Pizza Moon located nearby in Celestial Park.
4. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic
Arrive after EPA traffic has moved on. Now this will be far from a walk-on attraction; you’re still going to have quite a wait here. But remember that you’re waiting less with the strategy.
Battle at the Ministry (minimum 40” to ride) – A massive, complex dark ride with a jaw-dropping queue. This is far and away the flagship attraction in the park - when it’s not down, that is. This is an ambitious engineering marvel, and it goes down several times a day. The tip here is to check the app for live updates. Even if the app says it’s closed for the day, keep checking. It may still come back up - I’ve seen this happen on several occasions.
While in Wizarding World, you can do things like play with your interactive wand, explore the shops, and grab a Butter Bear or wizarding snack.
If you’re not a Harry Potter fan, you can skip the show, Le Cirque Arcanus. On the other hand, if you need some air conditioning and a place to relax, by all means, go inside. You’ll find show times on the Universal Orlando app.
5. Super Nintendo World
Visit late afternoon when crowds move on to other portals. It’s also a beautiful portal to visit at dusk. So be sure to return for a walkthrough and to take some great photos.
Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge (minimum 40” to ride) – Expect a wait; likely the ride itself might be a little overrated. I think walking through the queue is better than the ride itself. There are so many things to look at, and if you’re a Nintendo fan, prepare to be blown away. If there’s an impending thunderstorm on the horizon, you get in line to ride out the storm; the queue is all indoors.
Mine Cart Madness (minimum 36” to ride) is a high-energy roller coaster that plunges you into a wild, twisting adventure through an abandoned mine. Wait times hover around 70 minutes throughout the day but tend to drop off some in late afternoon.
Super Nintendo World at Epic Universe
Yoshi’s Adventure (minimum 34” to ride) – This slow-moving ride takes you above Super Nintendo World, and is one that most people can do. Even those people who hate rides will enjoy this one. It usually has a short wait time compared to other rides in the park - usually 20- 30 minutes or maybe even less.
While in Nintendo World, play interactive Power-Up Band games - yes, you’ll need to purchase them. And here’s a little secret.
After you complete 3 games, you can enter Shadow Showdown, one of the most overlooked attractions at Epic Universe. I can’t tell you how many people I talked to who have no idea this is even a thing. They just play the games and then leave I guess. Shadow Showdown is another interactive game where you play a high-tech video game using your shadow. I think it’s one of the best things here.
Toadstool Café, try this one for dinner, or even if you just grab a snack. It’s pretty cool inside. Keep an eye on the Toad animations in the windows. They are hilarious, and they don’t just run on a short, repetitive loop. I won’t spoil any surprises, but just keep an eye on these windows for some special things that may happen during your visit.
And if Toadstool Cafe is your thing, try the French-inspired cafe in Wizarding World. I can’t pronounce the name, so that’s why I’m just saying the cafe in Wizarding World - you can’t miss it.
Helios Grand Hotel at dusk from inside Epic Universe
6. Final Hour: Re-Ride and Explore
The last hour of park operation is prime time for low waits and photo ops.
Watch the nighttime fountain/fireworks show in Celestial Park. Position yourself so that the Helios Grand Hotel is in the background. You’ll get some great photos and video.
Dark Universe is especially worth seeing at night. Be sure to catch the Burning Blade Tavern erupt into flames. It happens every 15 minutes. I don’t know why it’s so cool to watch a windmill burst into flames, but it is. And you shouldn’t miss it.
Or grab a re-ride on your favorite, just keep in mind that most of the park-goers will head to Stardust Racers during this time.
Epic Universe Touring Summary
10:00 am Celestial Park: Stardust Racers
10:30 am Isle of Berk: Wing Gliders, Fyre Drill, Dragon Racer Rally
12:30 pm Dark Universe: Monsters Unchained, Werewolf, lunch
2:30 pm Wizarding World: Battle at the Ministry, Interactive Wand Play
5:00 pm Super Nintendo World: Mario Kart, Donkey Kong: Mine Cart Madness, Yoshi’s Adventure, Power-up Band interactive play. Shadow Showdown, dinner (Possibly Toadstool Cafe)
After 8:00 pm, walk-throughs of Celestial Park, Dark Universe, and re-ride a favorite (possibly Stardust Racers).
Final Thoughts and a Few Tips
This strategy works counterintuitively and against all those who have the EPA advantage. You will see everything you want to see, and save time in line.
The most important consideration here is that the park closes early, at 9 pm, which is right after sunset in the summer. This is a shame because Epic Universe has the best lighting package of any theme park I have ever experienced. If you get a survey about your park visit, tell them you want it opened later.
You also need to stay flexible - afternoon thunderstorms pretty much shut the park down. 90% of the attractions will not run if storms are in the area. So just find a dry place to sit and relax, and wait for it to pass. Storms are usually gone in less than an hour.
Keep in mind that some attraction queues may close earlier than 9 pm. This is so they don’t have a 2-hour wait when they are trying to close the park.
Unfortunately, some of the attractions and shows in Epic Universe experience a lot of downtime. Harry Potter: Battle at the Ministry is the worst. It goes down several times a day. The best advice I can give is to keep checking the app for status updates. Just pack your patience on this one.

Soar with Dragons at Universal Orlando - Epic Universe
Rides, shows and dining coming to Isle of Berk at Universal Orlando
Universal Orlando shared more details on Epic Universe - How to Train Your Dragon - Isle of Berk. Something that stood out right away is that this land is rich in rides, and not virtual or motion simulator rides - actual rides! Dining options look amazing with a grand hall and character meet and greets.
On Berk, a rough and rocky island towering over turbulent waters, resides a vibrant village where Vikings and dragons coexist peacefully.
Here, your family can embark on a thrilling coaster ride to glide through the skies resembling dragons, engage in water battles at sea, and enjoy the lively spectacles presented by the fire-breathing inhabitants of the village.

Will Hiccup’s Wing Gliders be a Launch Coaster?
Universal says Hiccup’s Wing Gliders is Hiccup’s latest flying contraption that “launches you into the air.” Sounds like a launch coaster to me!

This coaster will have you swooping and soaring along where you’ll encounter Hiccup and Toothless on your adventure.

Dragon Racers Rally
At Dragon Racer’s Rally, Berk’s new Vikings can practice aerobatic maneuvers and high-speed barrel rolls on a massive swing ride. Universal says this swing will go upside down and that riders will be able to make it as wild or mild as they wish.
This ride looks similar to the swing rides built by S&S, a similar perhaps to Dollywood’s Barnestomer ride.
Isle of Berk - Universal Orlando - Epic Universe
Fyer Drill
Take to the sea for a new water ride where you’ll aim water cannons at targets and other objects (maybe even each other). Think Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin or Men in Black but with water!
Isle of Berk - Universal Orlando - Epic Universe
Viking Training Camp
Junious Vikings will have a colorful and interactive playscape. There will be multiple towers to climb, and agility course, Viking drums (kids love drums in theme parks for some reason). This area will have slides and activities just for the younger Vikings.

The Untrainable Dragon
Universal says this will be a Broadway-style production with spectacular music and a heartwarming story.
The Untrainable Dragon will feature advanced technology and set pieces.
When a new dragon shows up on the Isle of Berk, the Vikings think they may have finally met their match.
Hiccup and Toothless, with help from Gobber and Astrid, work together to solve the mystery of The Untrainable Dragon.
Experience the wonder of dragons onstage and soaring overhead in their spectacular musical.

In this restaurant, you’ll be able to each and drink like a Viking! Mead Hall is the main table-service restaurant on the Isle of Berk. Looks massive!
The menu will include meat, fish, sandwiches and desserts.
Beverages will include assorted meads, ciders, and ales.

Isle of Berk Street Characters - Stroll around Berk and meet some of your favorite Vikings and dragons including Astrid, Stormfly, Ruffnut, and Tuffnut; and the Night Lights by baby dragons. You may also catch Gobber at work in his forge.
Universal hints that you might also catch a glimpse of Monstrous Nighttime, or Gonckle dragons flying high above the village.
