New Signs Are Up At EPCOT Communicore, Mysterious Globe Appears

What is that globe in Epcot? Communicore Opening Date and more…

Today on my visit to EPCOT I noticed that some of the walls have been pushed back in World Celebration Gardens.

Disney has announced that the rest of EPCOT will officially open on June 10, 2024, including Mickey and Friends, Communicore Hall, and Communicore Plaza.

Also, a mysterious new globe appeared. Let’s check it out…

MIckey and Friends signs have been installed. The construction walls have been pushed back as well, making the sidewalk wider.

Mickey and Friends” is where you can meet popular Disney characters in Epcot.

Communicore signs have been installed. Some of the walls here have been pushed back as well.

Disney has announced that Communicore Hall will be the starting point for Epcot’s international festivals like Food and Wine, Festival of the Arts, and Flower and Garden.

Communicore Plaza will be an outdoor area where guests relax. There will also be areas for large-scale concerts and small performances.

The canopy has been installed over Communicore Hall. I assume this will be where a lot of the concerts will be held.

Once the walls come down, you’ll be able to walk from one side of the park to the other easily.

Mickey and Friends is now lit up at night, giving us a better idea of how Communicore will tie in with the World Celebration Gardens and Spaceship Earth.

And this mystery contraption has appeared in World Celebration Gardens. It appears to be some kind of globe. Are those stools around the base? If you know what this is, leave a note in the comments below.

Epcot: Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts

Over the years Spaceship Earth at Epcot has received a few updates to keep it relevant - such as the car and garage scene. Have you ever wondered how the set pieces were brought up to the top of the ball?

Spaceship Earth is one of the last remaining opening-day attractions at Epcot in Walt Disney World. It’s a complex ride system with powerful Disney storytelling. In this article/video, I’ll share some of my favorite secrets and fun facts about Spaceship Earth.

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot

Spaceship Earth is not just fun, it’s also very smart.

In the late 1970’s, Disney frequently held intellectual symposiums with several museums and universities to ensure that the scenes were historically accurate, in both what you see and what you hear.

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot

Spaceship Earth takes us through a journey of human communication, of course. But did you ever notice the mural on the right-hand side just before the entrance?

This is my favorite mural in any Disney park.

Study it closely and you’ll discover that it depicts two different aspects of communication: the development of communication over time (from caveman to future man), and communication over distance (from Earth to space.)

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Mural

Once on the ride, the first scene we see is the cavemen battling a mammoth.

While it may look as though they are hunters attempting to catch their dinner, there’s actually a story here and we learn about them in the next scene.

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot

From the story being depicted on the cave wall and from the story being told, we learn that the mammoth arrived and became a threat.

People in the tribe worked together to scare him off. And with teamwork, they no longer felt alone.

The late Disney Historian Jim Korkis has some great research on this.

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot

The Roman Empire scene is another iconic moment of Spaceship Earth.

The infamous burning charcoal scent has become a cult classic at Disney World.

You can even buy candles with that same scent, which to me smells like smoked paprika.

As we pass by the Fall of Rome scene the scent is coming from your right.

It blows across the ride vehicles and then gets sucked into an exhaust fan so it doesn’t fill up the building.

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot

And while most people are looking left at the burning embers of what used to be Rome, I recommend you look to your right.

You’ll see a wall with graffiti.

This is a copy of actual graffiti found in Pompeii.

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot

Over the years Spaceship Earth has received a few updates to keep it relevant - such as the car and garage scene.

Have you ever wondered how the set pieces were brought up to the top of the ball? Well right behind the Jewish-Islam scene, there’s an elevator.

The back wall slides open from right to left revealing a massive freight elevator.

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot
Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot

Jewish and Islamic scholars often met with each other in the 10th century to trade research on astronomy, so we also see a gentleman using Quadrant, a precursor to the sexton.

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot

The sleeping monk scene is not only funny but another classic moment.

Guests with a keen eye for detail (or a good zoom lens) may notice the Bible on the far right side of this scene.

It contains the names of Disney Imagineers, Walt Disney, and even a hidden Mickey on the bottom.

And behind the sleeping Monk is an access point to the outer ball. Spaceship Earth is really two separate systems - the inner ball, which is the ride, and the outer ball which is the silver exterior Alucobond panels.

There is about 2 ft of space separating the two with a network of catwalks running in between them. This is how the exterior lights were installed.

One of the most beautiful vignettes in Spaceship Earth is the Sistine ceiling scene. Michael Angelo is up there painting it, but in real life, it was set on its side and hand-painted by a Disney Imagineer.

Audio Animatronic figures are expensive so it’s not uncommon for Disney to duplicate certain characters across Walt Disney World.

For example, in the Rome scene, the Centurian is US President Zachary Taylor from the Hall of Presidents in Magic Kingdom.

How about Gutenberg as James Buchanan of the Hall of Presidents and yeah, that’s Andrew Jackson operating the press.

Spaceship Earth Secrets and Fun Facts Epcot

As with many Disney dark ride attractions, the ride track is lined with Intrusion mats. If someone were to hop out of their ride vehicle, they would step on the mat, which would in turn stop the ride immediately.

It’s amazing all of the things Disney has to consider when building a ride.

Spaceship Earth’s ride track is made up of hollow steel tubes that are filled with a non-toxic gas.

Sensors monitor the pressure in the tubes. A Loss of pressure would indicate that a piece of track is broken. The ride will stop to prevent disaster.

Spaceship has many historic artifacts on display. In the telegraph scene, those are actual log books from the 1890s on the desk in the background.

And the operatorswitch board is authentic - it’s from 1898 and was supplied to Disney by AT&T, one of the original sponsors of the attraction.

Is Epcot Fun for Kids?

Is Epcot fun for kids? While it is a great park for adults, this DISNEY WORLD! Of course Epcot is fun for kids! In fact, Epcot is the second most kid friendly park at Walt Disney World, after magic Kingdom.

Is Epcot fun for kids? While it is a great park for adults, this DISNEY WORLD! Of course Epcot is fun for kids! In fact, Epcot is the second most kid friendly park at Walt Disney World, after Magic Kingdom.

In this guide I’ll share why Epcot is totally worth a visit with kids and review the most popular rides and attractions.

A great feature about Walt Disney World is that most rides and attractions are designed to have either no minimum height requirement or one that’s around 40 inches. Many kids that around 4 and 5 years old can meet a 40 inch height requirement - which is what Disney is aiming for.

The Best Rides and attractions for kids at Epcot

Let’s start with Spaceship Earth.

This is the icon of Epcot and yes, you can actually go inside the giant “Epcot ball.”

Spaceship Earth | Epcot

Spaceship Earth is among the last of the opening day attractions at Epcot and that means it has stood the test of time at this park.

It’s a slow moving dark ride that takes you on journey through time - starting with the dawn of man and going well into the future.

Inside Spaceship Earth | Epcot

Along the way you’ll pass through vivid vignettes of important moments in human communication with animatronics, beautiful music and a kid-friendly narration.

There’s a great interactive play area after the ride too.

Next let’s head over to The Seas with Nemo and Friends. In this attraction you’ll go under the sea, without getting wet, in slow moving “clamobile.”

The Seas with Nemo and Friends at Epcot - for kids

The Seas with Nemo and Friends | Epcot

You immediately enter Nemo’s underwater world with brightly colored coral reefs and a few familiar friends.

Of course, Nemo gets lost pretty early on so you set out on a journey to find him, passing through jellyfish, a shark infested ship wreck, and you’ll meet up with Crush the infamous sea turtle as he travels the East Australian Current.

Inside The Seas with Nemo and Friends - Epcot - for kids

The Seas with Nemo and Friends | Epcot

There is no minimum height requirement for The Seas with Nemo and Friends.

After you locate Nemo and your journey comes to end,  you can get up close to some sea life in one of the largest salt water aquariums in the country - a massive 5.7 million-gallon, multi-level underwater habitat known as Sea Base.

The Seas - Sea Base at Epcot

Sea Base - Inside the Seas with Nemo and Friends | Epcot

The Seas with Nemo and and Friends Pavilion is also a walk through aquarium where you can observe over 2,000 animals including sharks, manatees, clown fish, and eels.

Sea Base - Inside the Seas with Nemo and Friends | Epcot

Sea Base - Inside the Seas with Nemo and Friends | Epcot

Here’s a secret: Ask for the complimentary scavenger hunt at the gift shop located near the exit.

Turtle Talk with Crush is a 15 minute interactive show unlike any other you’ve seen. He’s animated, yes, but he interacts live with the audience using improvisational humor. Kids and adults will find him to be hilarious.

Turtle Talk With Crush | Epcot

Crush takes questions from the audience using his “hydrophone” so encourage your little one to ask him about his favorite food or his favorite activity.

He will also introduce to you a few of his pals, like Dory and Squirt.

The show runs every 15 minutes, so feel free to explore the aquarium for a bit.

But you should be in line for the next show about 10 minutes prior so you get a good spot.

After exiting the Sea Base, head next door to The Land Pavilion.

Now just like the Seas Pavilion, there are a number of attractions inside, including The Garden Grill character restaurant. (Reservations are highly recommended).

The Land Pavilion | Epcot

Living with The Land Boat Ride takes you on a cruise through Disney World’s innovative green houses where you can see some futuristic farming techniques like plants growing without soil and a record breaking tomato tree, yes a TREE, that produces over 30,000 tomatoes a year.

Living with the Land Boat Ride

There is no minimum height requirement for Living with the Land and the wait is usually less than 20 minutes.

Soarin’ is one of the most popular attractions at Walt Disney World because it’s technically one of the big rides, but most people can do it - the young and the young at heart alike.

This gentle ride simulates flight, as if you were in a hang glider, flying over some of the world’s most recognizable landmarks like the Mount Kilimanjaro of China, the Great Pyramids of Egypt and the Eiffel Tower.

Soarin Around the World - at Epcot - For kids

Soarin’ Around the World | Epcot

The 80-foot IMAX digital projection screen creates a soothing sensation of flight combined with an uplifting musical score.

Nothing too wild or crazy happens on this ride, its a more graceful experience with beautiful imagery and music. There are no big thrills here.

Soarin’ has a minimum height requirement of 40 inches.

Next, we’re off to the Imagination Pavilion, home to the kid-friendly dark ride, Journey Into Imagination with Figment.

Journey into Imagination - Epcot - For Kids

Here you’ll board a slow moving ride vehicle and take a tour of the Imagination Institute hosted by Figment, a little purple dragon, and Dr Nigel Channing.

Figment gets a little too enthusiastic so we end up on a detour.

OrlandoParksGuy: Travel agent for Disney World, Universal Orlando, and Orlando area cruises

Along the way you’ll learn about the 5 senses as Figment turns the lab upside down and causes quite a stink in the Smell Lab.

Inside Journey Into Imagination with Figment - Epcot - For Kids

Journey Into Imagination (Figment) | Epcot

After the Journey Into Imagination there are a number of interactive exhibits designed just for little ones in the exit area.

Also in the Imagination Pavilion, you’ll find the Disney-Pixar Short Film Festival in 4D.

Here you’ll don 3-D Glasses and watch 3 cartoon shorts, taking about 18 minutes in all. The floor of the theater reacts to key moments in the films by gently moving up and down.

Disney Pixar Film Festival at Epcot - for kids

Disney - Pixar Short Film Festival | Epcot

These film shorts are heartwarming and funny for all ages.

There’s usually no line to get in but I recommend being at the theater at least 10 minutes prior to the next show.

Oh, and it’s a great place to rest and enjoy some air conditioning.

Test Track, located on the opposite side of the park, is the fastest ride in Walt Disney World. This one has a minimum height requirement of 40 inches.

Test Track at Epcot for Kids

Test Track | Epcot

Inside you’ll buckle up in a 6 passenger sedan and head out on a futurist test track to see how your car holds up to different conditions like weather, speed and maneuvering around objects.

The road test culminates with a high speed around the building’s exterior at 65 mph.

Inside Test Track at Epcot (ride vehicle) SimCar

Inside Test Track (SimCar) | Epcot

The wait can be long for Test Track but there are a number of interactive elements in the queue to keep kids engaged.

Next to Test Track you’ll find Mission Space.

Misson Space at Epcot - for kids

Mission Space | Epcot

This motion simulator takes you through a realistic rocket launch into space.

Each member of your crew will assume an important role to fly the rocket. During your flight, you will be instructed to initiate a sequence which means pushing a few buttons on command.

Inside Mission Space | Epcot

Don’t worry, if you don’t push the buttons, the ride still continues as planned.

There are two teams Orange and Green.

Orange Team is an intense experience with significant spinning to create g-forces during the launch.

The minimum height for Orange is 44 inches.

Inside Mission Space at Epcot - for kids

Inside Mission Space | Epcot

Personally I don’t recommend it. I think it’s much too intense.

Fortunately the Green Team is basically the same ride but with light movement and no spinning!  Green has a minimum high requirement of 42 inches.

Heading out to World Showcase, one of the first countries you’ll come to, if going clockwise, is Mexico. Go inside! There’s a super kid-friendly boat ride in there.

Gran Fiesta Tour Boat Ride at Epcot Mexico for kids

Gran Fiesta Tour Starring The Three Caballeros takes you on a cruise down the Rio Grande on a musical boat ride through some of the most famous sights and cities in Mexico.

Gran Fiesta Tour | Epcot

There is no minimum height requirement for Gran Fiesta Tour.

Continuing clockwise in World Showcase, you’ll come to the Norway pavilion, home to one of the most popular attractions in the park: Frozen Ever After.

This boat ride attraction is a musical journey through scenes from the film Frozen with Anna, Elsa and their fellow frozen friends.

Frozen Ever After | Epcot

The line for this ride can get ridiculously long, often 80+ minutes so you’ll want to ride it first thing in the morning.

There is no minimum height requirement for Frozen Ever After.

Meet Anna and Elsa at Royal Sommerhus | Epcot

After riding Frozen, be sure to visit Anna and Elsa at Royal Sommerhus, one of the most popular character meet and greet locations at Walt Disney World.

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure is another ultra-popular ride at Epcot, one that you should consider doing early in the morning before the crowds arrive for the day.

Inside Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure | Epcot

Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure | Epcot

On this dark ride attraction you’ll join Chef Remy on an adventure though his kitchen, and then scurry along with him as he tries to escape from Chef Skinner.

You can definitely spend en entire day or 2 at Epcot even with little ones. And I didn’t even cover things likes Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind (minimum height 42”), the circle vision films in China and Canada, the food, shops like the Mitsukoshi Department Store in the Japan pavilion, the KidCot Fun Stops, the Coke Store where you can sample Coke products from around the world, the Beauty and Beast Sing a Long show and more. Oh and the nighttime fireworks spectacular which runs nightly.

I went on Epcot's Behind the Seeds Tour (and it wasn't boring)

Behind the Seeds Tour at Epcot Review

I love Living with the Land at Epcot. Going through the hydroponic gardens is interesting to me and I’m not even into plants. But I never gave much thought to the Behind the Seeds Tour. You may have seen the tour desk at the exit of the boat ride through Epcot’s greenhouses.

Epcot Behind the Seeds Tour

Recently my family took me on Behind the Seeds for Father’s Day. It was more fun than I would have thought!

The tour isn’t free but it’s on the more reasonable side for Walt Disney World extras. The Behind the Seeds Tour is $35 per person and it can be booked in advance on the Disney World website.

If you’re a client of mine, I can book the tour for you as well.

Here are a few highlights from Behind the Seeds at Epcot’s The Land pavilion.

The tour desk for Behind the Seeds is located inside The Land pavilion, between Soarin’ and the exit of Living with the Land.

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort

Take a tour of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort at Walt Disney World. Here you’ll be immersed in the spirit of the South Pacific with tropical palm trees, lush vegetation and torch-lit pathways. In this tour, we go inside guest rooms, restaurant at the Polynesian and the Great Ceremonial House. Get insider planning advice and more ▸

At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort you’ll be immersed in the spirit of the South Pacific with tropical palm trees, lush vegetation and torch-lit pathways.

Disney's Polynesian Village Resort at Night

While technically Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is the flagship hotel at Walt Disney World, Disney's Polynesian Village Resort has been the most popular hotel since it opened in 1971. Even a few unofficial fan clubs have been created.

Dining, shopping, hotel check in and the monorail are all located in the The Great Ceremonial House, the main building within the resort.

Its nearly 500 guest rooms are located inside several, 3-story outer buildings called longhouses. The furthest is an 8 minute walk from The Great Ceremonial House.

Exterior pathways lead to the different buildings. Hotel rooms are accessed through interior hallways.

This 40-acre resort sits directly across from Magic Kingdom Park on the man-made Seven Seas Lagoon, just minutes away by monorail or by boat.

The Magic Kingdom monorail stops at the lobby of the Polynesian and the Epcot monorail line is within walking distance.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Rooms

Ground floor rooms have patios, third floor rooms have covered balconies.

Most of the resort’s second floor rooms do not have full balconies. Instead they have a sliding door that opens to outside but it is not possible to actually stand outside.

My clients will often ask me to request a first floor or third floor room so they have the option of going outside.

For assistance with making room requests, plus other insider advice on planning your Walt Disney World vacation, contact me here to get started!

Most guest rooms have the same configuration: 2 queen beds and a twin-size daybed.

Suites and Club Level rooms are available as well.

Like most Disney World hotels, the nightly rate depends largely by the view from your room and/or the room location. Disney charges more for premium views and/or more convenient room locations.

At Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort there are 6 main room categories:

  • Standard View - Views of gardens, walkways, or monorail.

  • Lagoon View - Views of the the Seven Seas Lagoon. Some rooms may have an obstructed view of Magic Kingdom.

  • Pool or Marina View - Rooms that overlook one of the two pools or a room overlooking the marina on the Seven Seas Lagoon. There isn’t much of a marina these days compared to years ago, but Disney still uses it to dock a few boats.

  • Theme Park View - Views of the distant Magic Kingdom Park. Most rooms have views of the nightly fireworks and the Seven Seas Lagoon.

  • Club Level - There are multiple views to choose from within the Club Level category such as Theme Park View and Garden View. These are standard rooms but include access to a lounge where breakfast and snacks are served daily.

  • Deluxe Studio - Views of the lagoon, landscaping or parking areas. These spacious rooms have a kitchenette with a microwave, toaster, mini-fridge, paper plates, bowls, and plastic utensils. They have 1 Queen Bed, 1 Queen-Size murphy bed that doubles as a sofa, and 1 Single pull-down bed. Sleeps up to 5 adults

How Much Does Disney’s Polynesian Resort Cost?

Rates vary by day of the week, time of year and room view. Friday and Saturday night stays cost a little more.

Rates are lower from late August through October and higher from February through April.

Holiday rates are in effect between Christmas and New Year’s Day, and the week immediately following Easter.

Approximate room rates at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

  • Standard View starting at $650/night

  • Pool or Marina View starting at $765/night

  • Lagoon View starts at $890/night

  • Theme Park View starts at $960/night

  • Garden View Club Level starts at $928/night

  • Theme Park View Club Level starts at $1025/night

  • Deluxe Studio starts at $655/night

Note that Garden View Club Level is less than a Theme Park View room. I advise my clients to book the Club Level room over the Theme Park View whenever possible. The value of Club Level outweighs the view of Magic Kingdom.

What is Club Level at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort?

Club Level rooms are not suites, they are standard rooms with 2 queen beds and 1 daybed, but they come with access to the King Kamehameha Club. Here you’ll have secured key access to the club-level lounge, where a continental breakfast and refreshments are served daily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a place to do laundry at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort?

Yes, there is a laundry room on site. I recommend bringing your own detergent pods. The brand Disney sells isn’t very effective at removing stains.

Did the Beatles really break up at the Polynesian Village Resort?

Yes, John Lennon was staying at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort in December 1974. His lawyers brought him the official documents to sign that would officially dissolve The Beatles. While Disney will not confirm the exact room Lennon was staying in, it’s believed to be a Theme Park View room, most likely in the Samoa longhouse based on photos taken during Lennon’s vacation.

What time is check in at the Polynesian Resort?

Check-in is at 4pm. Online check-in is available through the Walt Disney World app. Check-out time is 11am.

Is there a map of Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort?

  • Aotearoa - Close to the Great Ceremonial House, views of monorail or lagoon. 2nd floor rooms do not have balconies.

  • Fiji - Close to the Great Ceremonial House, far from the Epcot monorail. Overlooks marina or gardens. 2nd floor rooms do not have full balconies.

  • Hawaii - This is the Club Level building. Views of the lagoon, Magic Kingdom, or Gardens. 2nd floor rooms do not have full balconies.

  • Niue - Close to the Great Ceremonial House and pools. One of the most requested buildings at the Polynesian because of its convenient location. 2nd floor rooms do not have full balconies.

  • Rapa Nui - Deluxe Studios building. Close to the Epcot monorail station and quiet pool. Rooms on the north face gardens, south facing rooms have a parking lot view. 2nd floor rooms have full balconies.

  • Rarotonga - Close to Great Ceremonial House and pools. One of the most requested buildings because of its convenient location. Mostly standard view rooms here (gardens, quiet pool, or a distant parking area). 2nd floor rooms do not have full balconies.

  • Samoa - Mostly pool view rooms, very close to the Great Ceremonial house. Ground floor rooms have easy access to both pools. Can be noisy when pools are busy in the afternoon. 2nd floor rooms do not have full balconies.

  • Tahiti - Made up of Deluxe Studios, so no standard hotel rooms here. Studios are similar to standard rooms, and perhaps even more desirable. Very close to the Epcot monorail station, but it’s the furthest away from the Great Ceremonial House. 2nd floor rooms have full balconies.

  • Tonga - All of Polynesian’s suites are located here including the Presidential Suite and a Honeymoon Suite.

  • Tokelau - Another building made up of Deluxe Studios, so no standard hotel rooms here. Studios are similar, and perhaps even more desirable than standard rooms. Excellent location, between the Great Ceremonial House, pool and Epcot monorail station. 2nd floor rooms have full balconies.

  • Tuvalu - Has many rooms overlooking Magic Kingdom, in a quiet location. Far from the Epcot monorail, somewhat close to the Great Ceremonial House. 2nd floor rooms do not have full balconies.

EPCOT Added to After Hours Plus New Dates

A new theme park and new dates added for Disney World After Hours Events

Disney World not only added additional dates for Disney After Hours events but it also added a new theme park - EPCOT!

Disney World After Hours, are specially ticketed experiences that occur after the gates close for the night, extending access to favorite attractions and providing guests with more opportunities to have a special Disney experience.

After Hours tickets also allow you early entry into the park beginning at 6 p.m. at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and 7 p.m. at EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Best of all, the number of tickets for these events is limited, which means lower wait times for some of their favorite attractions.

During EPCOT After Hours, popular attractions, like Frozen Ever After, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure will be operating.

Be sure to snap a few photos with your favorite Disney characters and munch on complimentary Disney snacks like ice cream novelties, popcorn and select beverages available at carts throughout the park.

OrlandoParksGuy: Travel agent for Disney World, Universal Orlando, and Orlando area cruises

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park will reopen this spring and along with it, H2O Glow After Hours will be back and ready to “light” up the summer.

EPCOT After Hours Dates

After Hours experiences are scheduled to kick off May 20 at Typhoon Lagoon and June 1 at EPCOT.

They join Magic Kingdom Park, running through March 27, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, currently running with additional dates being added beginning May 3.

EPCOT After Hours Ticket Prices

Event tickets for EPCOT, Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney’s Hollywood Studios can be purchased by all guests starting March 3, 2023, with prices ranging from $75 to $149 (plus tax).

Guests of select Walt Disney World Resort hotels can begin purchasing Disney After Hours tickets for EPCOT and Typhoon Lagoon as early as February 28.

An all-new nighttime spectacular is planned to debut at EPCOT later this year. Before the new show launches, Walt Disney World will bring back ‘EPCOT Forever’ as an interim show over the skies of World Showcase Lagoon starting April 3.

Similar to how it appeared in 2021, ‘EPCOT Forever’ is the perfect offering while Disney’s Entertainment team preps the Lagoon, including a phased removal of fireworks platforms following the final ‘Harmonious’ performance on April 2.

A limited-time spectacle of lasers, lighting, special effects, and fireworks, ‘EPCOT Forever returns with a collection of songs that offer both a trip down memory lane and a look toward the future.

Tips for Making Epcot Candlelight Processional Dining Packages

Guide to making reservations for the Epcot Candlelight Dining Package

At Epcot’s Candlelight Processional, guests can experience celebrity narrators, the Voices of Liberty acapella ensemble, a 50-piece live orchestra and glorious massed choirs as they present a retelling of the traditional Christmas story.

Tips for Reserving Candlelight Processional Dining Packages

A Candlelight Processional Dining Package includes lunch or dinner at a participating Epcot restaurant and guaranteed admission to the show.

Is a dining package required to see Candlelight Processional? Nope! Standby guests who line up early will almost certainly get into the show.

For the dining package, you can choose from several restaurants at EPCOT that offer Candlelight Processional Dining Packages. Each package includes:

  • An appetizer, entrée and dessert or one (1) full buffet (where applicable), along with a non-alcoholic beverage

  • One (1) guaranteed seat per person to a Candlelight Processional performance held on the same day

The reservation time you select determines which performance you’ll go to. There are at least 2 performances each night.

Tips for Getting a Candlelight Dining Package

Dining reservations are extremely difficult to secure at Walt Disney World and Candlelight Processional Dining Packages are no different. They sell out within within minutes going on sale.

While there’s a lot of luck involved here are a few things you can do help increase your chances.

1

First, make a park reservation for Epcot on the day you want to make the Candlelight Dining Package reservation, or at least make sure reservations are available.

If you have a Park Hopper ticket, you can begin park hopping at 2 pm (subject to availability).

2

Link a credit card to your My Disney Experience account, under the My Profile section. This way you can speed through the checkout process by not having to spend time entering your credit card information. A credit card hold is required to make the reservation.

Also, keep a credit card handy just in case. Sometimes the system doesn’t see that you have a card on file and makes you enter it again.

3

Know the date, time and restaurant you want in advance. For a list of participating restaurants, see my Candlelight Processional article here. It’s also a good idea to have a backup option, but you’ll need to work fast if your first choice isn’t available.

4

Log into your My Disney Experience account at least 5 minutes before the packages go on sale. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the dining reservation system.

5

If someone in your party has their own My Disney Experience account, they can also try for a reservation as well.

NOTE: You cannot have multiple people signed into the same My Disney Experience account at the same time.

The system will automatically log the other person out when it detects a new log in.

You may not realize you have been logged out until it’s time to check out and the system asks you to log in again. At this point you’ll likely lose your time slot to someone else.

6

Locate the Candlelight Processional Dining Package from the list of restaurants. It has a seperate listing, do not look up the restaurant by name - look up the “Candlelight Processional Dining Package” instead.

You can also search for these packages using the search tool on the app and website to find them faster.

7

When the site unlocks at 6 am ET, you’ll need to move fast. Enter the date, restaurant, party size and time. Do not spend time choosing the people in your party in the drop down menu.

Disney just needs to have the headcount. You can go back and fill in names later if you want, once your reservation is confirmed.

Tips if you Don’t Get a Candlelight Dining Package

Go standby! People will begin queuing up about 60 minutes prior to each show. At Disney, waiting 60 minutes for an attraction is no big deal, right?

Odds are very good you’ll get into the show.

If there is a popular narrator, like the voice of Olaf, Josh Gad, I recommend checking out the line situation starting 2-3 hours prior to the show.

This will give you an idea of when you should get in line for the second show.

Ask a Cast Member at the American Gardens Theater what time they recommend you get in the standby line.

Cast Members work the show every night and have a good idea of when people have been forming a line. They will happy to help you.

Regal Eagle Smokehouse Epcot

Book a same-day dining package. Same-day Candlelight Processional Dining Packages have returned to Regal Eagle Smokehouse and Spice Road Table. Regal Eagle is a terrific value because it’s cheaper, and you get the exact same ticket as those paying a lot more for lunch and dinner.

Last year I had such great luck with same-day dining reservations that I’m planning on doing it again this year.

My tip: get to Regal Eagle at 11:30 am, the restaurant opens at 11:45 am.

Last year there were plenty of same-day dining packages available when I checked.

The regular cashiers at Regal Eagle sell the package, there’s no special area to purchase them.

If you don’t want to wait in standby or do a dining package, you can stand on the World Showcase promenade and watch the show from there.

You just can’t stand in the main walkway.

You’ll actually have a very good view of the stage, but of course, you should arrive early.

  • 12/24 – 12/26: Marie Osmond

  • 12/27 – 12/28: Courtney Vance

  • 12/29 – 12/30: Angela Bassett

I highly recommend that you book a “Candlelight Processional Dining Package” if you’re planning on seeing the show.

Packages go on sale Oct. 6, 2022, starting at 6 a.m. ET on disneyworld.com or in your Disney World mobile app.

If you don’t have a Candlelight Processional Dining Package, you’ll need to queue up about 2 hours prior to the show, but there is no guarantee that you will get a seat in the show.

Guide to Epcot Candlelight Processional Dining Package

You can choose from several unique eateries at EPCOT offering Candlelight Processional Dining Packages. Each package includes:

  • An appetizer, entrée and dessert or one (1) full buffet (where applicable), along with a non-alcoholic beverage

  • One (1) guaranteed seat per person to a Candlelight Processional performance held on the same day

List of participating restaurants and dining package prices, which exclude tax and gratuity (adult / child prices are provided):

Biergarten Restaurant
Germany Pavilion $65.00 / $37.00

Coral Reef Restaurant
The Living Seas $74.00 / $30.00

Garden Grill Restaurant
The Land Pavilion $71.00 / $46.00

Le Cellier Steakhouse
Canada Pavilion $100.00 / $39.00

Regal Eagle Smokehouse: Craft Drafts & Barbecue
(same-day dining packages only)
American Adventure Pavilion $40.00

Rose & Crown Dining Room
United Kingdom Pavilion $64.00 / $28.00

Spice Road Table
(same-day dining packages only)
Morocco Pavilion $52.00 / $23.00

The same-day dining package at Regal Eagle is a terrific value but it can be a roll of the dice with availability. Packages are subject to availability and may not be available on peak dates.

Last year I was able to get a same-day ticket by visiting Regal Eagle as soon as they opened, typically 11:45 a.m.

I anticipate high demand for Josh Gad and Neil Patric Harris performances.

Finally, Disney World has launched a new website, EPCOTholidays.com. Visit this site for current information about holiday events at Epcot plus links to other holiday events throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

Epcot Tours Are Coming Back!

I am thrilled to share fan-favorite tours from Disney World’s Enchanting Extras Collection are returning to EPCOT beginning Oct. 2, adding to and completing the previously announced lineup of highly popular tours returning to Walt Disney World Resort.

A while back my wife asked me what she could get me for my birthday. I told her that I wanted to do the tour that takes you behind the scenes at Walt Disney World.

When I opened my birthday card, I saw tickets to the, “Behind the SEEDS” tour inside The Land pavilion at Epcot. Slight misunderstanding but I was grateful just the same. Who doesn’t like plants?

If you like the Living with the Land attraction at Epcot or have an interest in gardening and natural sciences, then you’ll love Behind the Seeds!

It’s a 1 hour walking tour, and yes you get to see backstage at Epcot - a very rare opportunity at Disney World.

Experience The Seas Tour | Epcot

Experience The Seas:

The Seas with Nemo & Friends at Epcot is home to more than 2,000 sea creatures representing over 90 aquatic species including sea turtles, angelfish, dolphins, eagle rays and sharks.

With the return of Epcot Seas Adventures – DiveQuest, you once again can dive right into this 5.7-million-gallon saltwater environment and immerse yourself into the sea life surrounding the coral reef.

This experience offers SCUBA-certified guests guaranteed calm seas, unlimited visibility, and incredible marine life.

Epcot dolphin tour

If you aren’t SCUBA-certified or prefer to stay on land don’t worry; there is a tour for you, too!

With the return of Epcot Seas Adventures – Dolphins in Depth, you can meet the bottlenose dolphins at The Seas to learn about their complex undersea behavior and talk with the experts who work with them every day.

These guest-favorite tours return beginning Oct. 2 and are on sale beginning Aug. 22 on DisneyWorld.com or the My Disney Experience app.

Advance bookings are highly recommended. Please note the Behind the Seeds experience requires a valid theme park admission and park reservation.

How Epcot is Becoming the 'Festival Park' at Walt Disney World

Epcot will officially become as the “Festival Park” at Walt Disney World. Here’s why.

Disney World recently shared plans about the transformation of EPCOT. While a timeline hasn’t been provided, we now know that Disney is officially making EPCOT its “festival park” by creating new spaces for these events to take place.

Construction Plans Revealed for Epcot at Walt Disney World

The EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival has really grown in popularity and now runs from July 14 through November 19, 2022. Remember when it used to run for just a few weeks? I wouldn’t mind if it ran all year!

Festival of Arts, EPCOT’s winter event has become one of my personal favorites with so many interactive displays and events like the giant Paint by Numbers wall.

And of course the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival with the amazing Disney topiaries and of course the concerts.

As festivals continue to become more of an integral part of the EPCOT experience, Disney Imagineers are creating new spaces that will bring these events into the heart of the park in the new World Celebration neighborhood.

In several new artist concept renderings recently released, you can see how the transformation of EPCOT will take shape as you walk past Spaceship Earth and begin your journey through the park.

If you have been to EPCOT recently or if you have passed by on the monorail and got a look over the construction walls, you know that work is far from complete and they seem to be working at a snail’s pace.

While no opening date has been provided, my guess is that we are at least a year out from completion, unless this new area is opened in phases.

2022 Epcot International Festival of the Arts

The EPCOT International Festival of the Arts kicks off Jan. 14 and runs through Feb. 21, 2022. The festival is extra magical since it’s taking place during The World’s Most Magical Celebration honoring the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort.

Yes, the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival is a big hit, but having experienced the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts for the past few years now, I have to say it’s actually my favorite event at Epcot.

For one, you won’t find the “drink around the world” college kids partying World Showcase. But I like it because there are a number of interactive elements, like the giant ‘Paint By Numbers Wall” and a number of creative projects taking shape right in front of you - such as the elaborate chalk art right on some Epcot’s sidewalks.

Festival Dates

This year, the Epcot International Festival of the Arts kicks off Jan. 14 and runs through Feb. 21, 2022.

Don’t Miss These Festival Highlights

The popular DISNEY ON BROADWAY Concert Series returns, with three shows each evening headlined by Broadway stars performing beloved songs from more than 25 years of award-winning stage productions.

This is an excellent way to enjoy Disney on Broadway music without having to buy pricey (but worth it!) tickets for a Broadway show.

These shows are extremely popular! I recommend purchasing a DISNEY ON BROADWAY Dining Package. These packages allow you to enjoy a great lunch or dinner at Epcot and guaranteed admission to the performance.

Beginning Dec. 14, Guests can visit ArtfulEPCOT.com to find out more about DISNEY ON BROADWAY Dining Packages.

Speaking of dining, Epcot will feature 15 Food booths, or “studios” throughout World Showcase.

This year 2 new studios will be introduced, Deco Delights and The Craftman’s Courtyard featuring artfully presented cuisine and beverages as visually appealing as they are delicious.

Interactive Art for the Whole Family

Watch imaginative chalk artists create masterpieces at Chalk Art Galleries, or improve your own artistic skills by learning how to draw a Disney Character at Animation Academy.

Epcot Paint by Numbers Wall

Paint By Number Wall at Epcot

Children can create their own chalk masterpieces at Kid’s Chalk Art and families can leave their artistic stamp on a larger-than-life mural at Expression Section: A Paint by Numbers Mural.

Epcot Chalk Art

Around World Showcase, Guests can step into renowned paintings from centuries past in stunning Artful Photo Ops.

  • 11/29 – 12/1: Chita Rivera

  • 12/2 – 12/4: Jodi Benson

  • 12/5 – 12/7: Alton Fitzgerald White

  • 12/8 – 12/10: Bart Millard

  • 12/11 – 12/13: Lisa Ling

  • 12/14 – 12/16: Andy Garcia

  • 12/29 – 12/30: Pat Sajak

Tickets are not required for the Epcot Candlelight Processional, the performance is included with theme park admission.

Candlelight Dining Packages were offered but sold out within minutes. These packages include lunch or dinner at an Epcot restaurant and guaranteed admission to the Candlelight Processional performance.

Dining Packages were limited to a handful of restaurants including Garden Grill, Coral Reef, Biergarten, and Rose and Crown.

We do not yet know what time Candlelight Processional will start each evening or if there will be one or two performances.

In the past two performances have been offered each evening.

Pro Tip! I recommend that you arrive at the theater 60-90 minutes prior to the show. There is no guarantee that you will make it into the theater so the earlier you arrive, the better your chances will be of seeing Candlelight.

If two performances of Candlelight Processional are offered, the second show sometimes has a shorter line.

Candlelight Processional Will Return to Epcot in 2021

2021 Candlelight Processional at Epcot Event Dates and Updates

The Epcot Candlelight Processional will return on November 26, 2021 at Epcot

The Epcot Candlelight Processional will return on November 26, 2021 at Epcot

The “Candlelight Processional” will be back this year, Nov. 26 – Dec. 30, as part of the EPCOT International Festival of the Holidays!

Candlelight Processional” is a tradition at Epcot but did you know the event has actually been at Walt Disney World since 1971?

It was initially at Magic Kingdom Park until 1994 when it was moved Epcot.

This Christmas season, Disney will once again grace the America Gardens Theatre with a live orchestra, cast choir, and celebrity narrator retelling the traditional Christmas story in spectacular and heartwarming fashion.

Since all these performers – including cast members, musicians, singers, and narrators – will be required to be fully vaccinated, this year Disney is not planning to host choirs from different community groups and schools.

Instead, to maintain the grandeur of the performance, Disney is expanding the cast member choir to fill the stage with voices.

Disney says it is optimistic that the guest choirs will be able to rejoin “Candlelight Processional” next year.

Disney is still working to confirm the schedule of celebrity narrators and details about “Candlelight Processional Dining Packages,” so stay tuned.

The post also showed the moment he walked into a “space elevator” that transports guests to the Centauri Space Station.

Disney said guests will feel as though they’re dining among the stars and 220 miles above Earth.

“As you begin your ascent, you’ll look down through a viewport to see EPCOT shrink away; looking up you’ll see the Space Station come into view,” Disney explained on its blog.

We are still waiting for Disney to share information about making dining reservations (ADR) for Space 220, no details have been released as of this moment.

The new out-of-this-world experience will be located near the Mission: SPACE attraction.

In other news, we still have availability for several fall dates at select Walt Disney World hotels. You can view a full list here.

First Look: 3 New Spectaculars Coming to Walt Disney World

Disney World announced 3 new spectaculars starting October 1, 2021 plus new character cavalcade.

Beginning Oct. 1, “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” begins at the Walt Disney World Resort. Here’s a first look at just some of the 50th anniversary events coming to Orlando.

“Disney Enchantment” coming to Magic Kingdom

A new nighttime spectacular, “Disney Enchantment,” will help kick off the 50th anniversary festivities when it debuts Oct. 1 at Magic Kingdom Park. Created to launch with “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” this new nighttime show is designed to inspire everyone to believe in the magic, “Disney Enchantment” will feature music, enhanced lighting, stunning fireworks and, for the first time, immersive projection effects that extend from Cinderella Castle down Main Street, U.S.A.

Joining “Disney Enchantment” on Oct. 1 will be “Harmonious” at EPCOT, the largest nighttime spectacular ever created for a Disney park.

This new show will bring the globe together at World Showcase Lagoon in a celebration of Disney music that inspires people worldwide.

It’s a grand, powerful tribute to the stories and songs that unite us, embracing new technical magic that incorporates pyrotechnics, choreographed moving fountains, lighting and media in new ways.

Harmonious” will invite Guests to travel the globe through new interpretations of classic Disney songs as you’ve never heard them before, reimagined in more than a dozen languages by a diverse group of 240 artists from around the world.

There’s also new daytime entertainment stirring at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

Check out this artist rendering of “Disney KiteTails” which will come alive several times daily at the Discovery River Amphitheater beginning Oct. 1.

Performers will fly windcatchers and kites of all shapes and sizes, while out on the water elaborate three-dimensional kites – some stretching to 30 feet long.

These colorful creations will dance through the sky to the beat of favorite Disney songs in an uplifting, vibrant experience for the whole family.

Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will be the hosts for “The World’s Most Magical Celebration,” and they’ll be decked out in sparkling new EARidescent fashions for the 50th anniversary.

As you can see in the photo above, their best pals want to get in on the shimmer, too, as Donald Duck and Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto, and Chip ‘n’ Dale will be sporting their own custom-made EARidescent looks beginning Oct. 1.

Guests will get a chance to see them when they travel through Magic Kingdom Park several times daily in the new “Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade.”

Looks like Disney may stick with the Character Cavalcades rather than the parades. Personally, I like how they just spontaneously appear, it adds to the excitement.

Want to be part of the celebration? I’ll help you navigate all the big changes coming to Walt Disney World plus keep you posted as new details become available.

3 Hidden References You'll Find on Test Track at Epcot

3 hidden references you’ll find on Test Track at Epcot

#3

When Imagineers created Test Track at Epcot, they included a few hidden references to the former attraction, World of Motion, plus they give a little nod to Walt Disney’s original plan for Epcot.

World of Motion ran from 1982 to 1996 at Epcot.

World of Motion was an opening-day attraction, a slow-moving dark ride based on the history (and future) of transportation. It was sponsored by GM and featured animatronic figures, similar to Spaceship Earth today. It also had a catchy theme song, It’s Fun to Be Free - remember that now because it’s important later on!

In 1999, Test Track replaced World of Motion as a high speed thrill ride but used the same show building.

Did you know Test Track is the fastest ride in Walt Disney World? It reaches speeds of 65 mph.

Test Track 2.0

In 2012, Test Track underwent a refurbishment, same track, different theme - Test Track 2.0 you could say. That’s when some pretty cool references to World of Motion began to appear.

In the 1980s each Epcot pavilion had its own circular logo.

Look carefully around Test Track and you might spot the original World of Motion logo cleverly hidden in a few places.

The World of Motion logo can be found on numerous signs around the pavilion like here on this exit sign, just as you get off the ride.

The trash cans at Disney World are great aren’t they? I even have a few miniature versions in my office. There’s no detail too small at Disney World, and the trash cans are great proof of that!

Here we can see World of Motion logo on the Test Track trash cans.

The Epcot logos are actually making a comeback as part of the park’s transformation project. Each of the FutureWorld pavilions will be represented by a circular icon once again and it appears Test Track will adopt World of Motion’s logo.

My favorite part of Test Track is when the doors open, the car blasts outside and picks up speed. Next time you’re on the ride, see if you notice 2 road signs on your left, just after you exit the show building.

First road sign on Test Track, referencing the original plans for Epcot Center.

The first sign shows a small cityscape, likely a reference to Walt Disney’s original plan for Epcot.

Walt Disney’s plan for his Florida project was to build an actual, futuristic city called Epcot, or Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.

Part of Walt’s plan was to showcase the future of transportation by having separate roadways for cars and trucks, and a monorail system.

You’ll find another reference to Walt Disney’s Epcot just after the brake tests inside the pavilion. There’s a model of a futuristic city on your left. Even World of Motion had a model city inside, that was probably a nod to Walt’s version of Epcot too.

If you want to see part of Walt Disney’s actual model of Epcot, take a ride on the PeopleMover at Magic Kingdom Park.

Now, scroll up to look at that road sign again. See the reference?

The second sign you pass says, “FN2BFRE” or “Fun to Be Free.” This is a reference to the World of Motion theme song, “it’s fun to be free.”

Want to hear it? Click here. But fair warning, it’s could stick in your head for a bit!

If you have a secret about Test Track or any other attraction at Walt Disney World, share in the comments below or on social media!
