Comparing Universal's Endless Summer Dockside and Surfside Resorts
Both Universal's Endless Summer Dockside and Surfside Resorts offer an exciting getaway for guests visiting the Universal Orlando Resort. These two sister resorts share the Endless Summer theme, but they also have some distinct differences that cater to different types of travelers.
Endless Summer Dockside is situated adjacent to its sister property, Endless Summer Surfside, in the southern end of the Universal Orlando Resort.
It promises a laid-back, coastal vibe with vibrant colors, beach-themed decor, and a picturesque waterfront view.
Endless Summer Surfside, on the other hand, immerses guests in the excitement of a surfside paradise. With a surf-inspired design, palm trees swaying in the breeze, and surfboards adorning the walls, this resort transports visitors to the sunny beaches of California. Its vibrant and energetic atmosphere is perfect for those seeking a beach vacation with a touch of thrill.
Accommodation and Amenities:
I wouldn’t loose too much sleep over deciding which hote is better Dockside or Sufside. The are essentially the same hotel.
Both Dockside and Surfside offer affordable accommodations for families. They sit across from each other and are very similar in design. One major difference is that Surfside is smaller than Dockside, which means less people.
Both offer standard rooms and 2-bedroom suites.
Each resort offers a fantastic food court, serving delicious meals and snacks throughout the day.
Price and Value:
Universal's Endless Summer Dockside typically offers slightly lower rates than Endless Summer. However, both properties provide excellent value for guests, enabling them to enjoy the benefits of staying on-site at Universal Orlando Resort within a reasonable budget.

Update on the NEW DVC Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
See photos and video of the new DVC Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Work continues on the Disney Vacation Club Tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. This week crews began installing an overhang on the highest point on the roof.
A coat of primer is being added to both side of the resort. It’s expected that the final coat of paint will match the other buildings at the Polynesian - dark brown.
Disney has not released details yet on the DVC Tower including points charts and the official name. Stay tuned for more updates.

How Much Does a Universal Orlando Vacation Really Cost in 2024?
How to budget for your Universal Orlando vacation.
The call of Universal Orlando’s thrilling rides, the immersive worlds, and the irresistible taste of butterbeer is undeniable. But before you grab your wand and head to Hogwarts, it's important to understand the financial realities of a Universal Orlando vacation.
Worry not, this guide delves deeper into the cost considerations, offering a map to navigate your Universal Orlando budget and maximize your vacation experience.
Universal Orlando Tickets: Your Gateway to Adventure
Theme Park tickets are a major component of your vacation. Prices fluctuate based on factors like travel dates, duration (how many days on your tickets), park combinations (Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Volcano Bay), and whether you would like to visit just one park per day, or multiple parks on the same day.
If you are visiting Universal Orlando primarily to experience the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, I highly recommend the Park to Park feature for your tickets. Wizarding World spans both theme parks so you’ll want the ability to travel between both parks, which, by the way, is done via the Hogwarts Express Train - a major attraction.
Multi-day passes offer a big discount. The longer you stay, the cheaper your tickets get per day. A 1-day ticket is the most expensive.
Fun Fact! Universal Orlando is price-controlled, meaning prices are the same whether you book online, by phone, or through a travel agent.
Universal does all of its discounting in-house. As your travel agent, I ensure you get the most value by providing insider advice and watching for any future discounts.
Universal Orlando Express Passes
For those wanting to maximize their ride time, Universal Orlando offers Express Pass. Express Passes grant priority access to attractions, but come at an additional cost, ranging from $100 to $200 per day per person.
Consider your patience level and desired pace before taking this option.
Universal Premier Hotels includes Express Pass for free when you include theme park tickets as part of your package.
It may work out better to book a stay at a Premier hotel than to purchase Express Passes separately. I help clients determine this every day. Click here to have me do this for you.
There are single-park and multi-park Express Pass options plus the option to skip the line once-per-ride Express Pass Base), or skip the lines as many times as you want on each ride (Express Pass Unlimited).
The Premier Hotels include Express Pass Unlimited for free.
Accommodations: Choosing Your Universal Orlando Hotel
Universal Hotels: Immerse yourself in the magic with on-site hotels, offering perks like Early Park Admission and Express Pass options. Prices vary greatly depending on your chosen hotel tier.
Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort
Value hotels like Endless Summer start around $88 per night, while Premier hotels like the Royal Pacific Resort can reach $600 per night or more.
Remember, location and amenities influence the price tag.
Partner Hotels: Opt for more budget-friendly options just outside the parks. Expect rates ranging from $100 to $200 per night. Most are third-party chain hotels and some even offer a free breakfast.
I recommend the Drury Inn & Suites Near Universal Orlando because the amenities offered here are even better than some of the Universal hotels. Features like a free breakfast buffet, free transportation to the theme parks, free snacks, and Early Park Admission are all included with your stay.
Fueling Your Magical Adventures: Food and Beverage
Quick Service Dining: Yes, there are a lot of theme park favorites like burgers and pizza, but the Wizarding World of Harry Potter has Three Broomsticks and The Leaky Cauldron, both heavy on Harry Potter theming. Expect to spend $10-$20 per person per meal. The Quick Service options in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter are some of the most popular at Universal Orlando.
Table Service Dining: Indulge in themed restaurants like Hard Rock Cafe, The Palm Restaurant, Cowfish, and NBC Sports Grill. Prepare for $25-$35 per person per meal at Universal table service restaurants.
Snacks and Drinks: Budget $5-$10 per person for snacks and beverages throughout the day. I recommend investing in a Coke Freestyle refillable drink mug. A single refillable mug is $18 but the more you purchase, the cheaper they get. For example, if you buy 2 mugs, the price drops to $16 each. You get unlimited free refills throughout the day. To activate the cup on a different day, the cost is $10.99
Beyond the Essentials: Souvenirs and Special Experiences
Souvenirs are one thing people do not sufficiently plan for. They are everywhere and no one, and I mean no one, will be able to resist the temptation to buy something. Some of the most popular items: Interactive Harry Potter Wands start around $50. Butterbeer mugs range in price from $13 to $45. T-Shirts and casual apparel start around $35. Allocate $50-$100 per person for souvenirs, or adjust based on your willpower. Remember, resisting the allure of Diagon Alley's shops can be nearly impossible, even if you’re not a Harry Potter fan!

Guests who book a Walt Disney World vacation package can now get a discount on Standard SUV rentals.
This special offer is available from Apr. 1 – June 19, 2024.
I rent a lot of cars for travel and I know that the rental car companies like to invent their own car classes, different from the manufacturer. “Standard SUV” can mean many things.
According to Alamo, a Standard SUV is a Ford Edge or similar.
Examples of “similar” may include:
Chevrolet Blazer
Nissan Murano
Jeep Cherokee
Hyundai Santa Fe
Chevrolet Equinox
Dodge Durango
Alamo in particular tends to have a lot of Blazers and Muranos. I have yet to see a Ford Edge but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
This Disney World offer is valid on daily and weekly rentals, regardless of the length of rental.
The most common rental locations are Orlando International Airport and the Walt Disney World Car Care Center, located on Disney property just outside Magic Kingdom Park.
Disney is no longer charging for overnight parking at its hotels. If you have a Disney World vacation package, you will not be charged to park your vehicle at any of the theme parks.

January 26, 2024, will be the last day to see the current rendition of the Country Bear Jamboree at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort.
This is the second major refurbishment of the Magic Kingdom attraction, the last being in 2012 when some of the songs were omitted, making the show about 5 minutes shorter.
Country Bear Jamboree at Walt DIsney World
If you’re a fan of the Country Bears, don't worry. It’s not going away completely. The new version of the show will be called the Country Bears Musical Jamboree and will still feature the beloved bears.
The theater will be transformed into a Nashville-inspired, Grand Ole Opry-style show with reinterpreted Disney tunes.
Watch the Country Bear Jamboree Show on Youtube
The Disney songs will be performed in different country music genres such as bluegrass, pop-country, rockabilly, and Americana.
The Country Bear Jamboree was originally planned for Disney’s Mineral King Ski Resort in California, but that project never took off, and soon after Walt Disney passed away.
Plans for the show carried on. Imagineers decided to place the show in Walt Disney World as an opening day attraction. It opened on October 1, 1971.
Country Bear Jamboree was so successful in Florida, that a copy of the show was made for Disneyland, which also inspired a whole new land, called Bear Country.
In 1983, Tokyo Disneyland also got a Country Bears show.
In 2001, the Disneyland California version closed to make way for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The Florida version remained.
Country Bear Musical Jamboree will debut sometime this summer, ahead of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, opening in late 2024, also in Magic Kingdom.

5 Tips for Visiting Dollywood at Christmas
Dollywood during the Christmas season is a magical smokey mountain experience offering an amazing amount of high-quality shows entertainment, authentic southern fried chicken and BBQ, and of course family-friendly rides.
Dollywood during the Christmas season is a magical smokey mountain experience offering an amazing amount of high-quality shows entertainment, authentic southern fried chicken and BBQ, and of course family-friendly rides.
Here are my top 5 tips for visiting Dollywood during Christmas.
5: Avoiding crowds
Orlando gets so crowded during Christmas week, that we like to leave let the crowds take over the city a while. This year we visited Dollywood in Tennesee.
Using what we know about the Orlando theme parks, we decided to arrive an hour early, especially because it was Christmas week.
I expected the crowd levels to be higher than usual. but they were nothing compared to Disney or Universal.
And while there were a ton of people waiting for the park to open, the crowds evened out and it didn’t feel too bad at all.
Dollywood opened at 11 a.m. so plan to be in the parking lot by 10 a.m. or even earlier. we stopped for a coffee first planning to sit in the car for a bit, but at 10 a.m. people were already getting in line at the gate.
Traffic getting into the park can back up causing long delays to pay for parking and to park the car. So this is another good reason to show up at least an hour early.
On the morning we were there, the park opened about 15 minutes early. I think they do this to help get the crowds moving through the gate.
Just like Disney World and Universal, you can enjoy 1 to 2 hours of lighter crowds when the park first opens to guests.
4: TimeSaver
Dollywood has a skip-the-line perk called TimeSaver, this is similar to Express Pass at Universal Orlando where you can bypass the regular queue using a dedicated line, with no reservations or mobile app needed (I'm looking at you Disney World).
I do feel it’s worth it to get TimeSaver because everyone wants to ride the coasters. The coasters had very long waits, over an hour throughout most of the day.
TimeSaver is money well spent if you want to get a lot done on your visit.
The basic TimeSavepass starts around $60 per person and the unlimited TimeSaver pass, which allows you to use it multiple times on the same ride, starts around $80 per person.
If you stay at Dollywood’s Dreammore Resort and Dollywood’s Heart Song Lodge. you’ll get complimentary TimeSaver Passes.
3: Rides at Dollywood During Christmas
If you are a ride family, you should do the popular rides right as the park opens.
I recommend starting with the Big Bear Mountain. This is by far the most popular ride in the park.
It’s nearly 1 mile of track and has 3 launches, yet very family friendly. No big drops or loops. It’s fast and has nearly 2 minutes of ride time. It’s a must-do for sure.
You’ll also want to ride the train, it operates on a set set schedule so check the app for times.
Most of the rides are operating during the Christmas season, except for the water rides of course because it’s a little too chilly for those.
And speaking of weather, the temperature can vary here in the smokey mountains. On the day we visited it was about 50 degrees during the day, and mid 40s at night.
But temps can get as high as 60 on some days.
I recommend bringing a warm jacket, hat, and gloves, but I’m from Orlando, so anything under 70 feels cold to me.
2: See the Shows at Dollywood
But you also want to keep an eye on showtimes.
Dollywood has several Christmas-themed shows that run on set times.
Download the Dollywood mobile app to see showtimes and special events.
One of the most popular shows is Christmas in the Smokies.
It’s Dollywood’s favorite Christmas tradition.
A cast of fourteen singers and dancers performs holiday favorites while accompanied by live musicians in an over-the-top Broadway musical, or maybe I should say Nashville-style musical production.
For this show, you’ll want to arrive at least 30 minutes before show time to get a good seat.
Most performances do reach capacity but there are several shows offered daily.
Two other must-see Christmas shows in Dollywood are the Candlelight Carolers who sing inside and outside Robert Thomas Chapel, yes Dollywood has an actual working chapel.
You’ll also want to see O’ Holy Night, a living nativity musical that tells the true meaning of Christmas.
At Dollywood, you have a chance to see Santa’s cabin in the Smokies as he checks his infamous list!
Families can discover whether their name is on the naughty or nice list in a unique Santa experience.
Finally, be on the lookout for atmosphere characters and musicians roaming the parks.
1: Dining at Dollywood
Dollywood is known for having excellent food, mainly fried chicken and barbecue.
And compared to the Orlando theme parks, prices are much lower than what I would expect.
That’s true about most of Dollywood, the food, beverages, and even souvenirs are not ridiculously expensive.
We wanted to make the most of the day here so we opted for quick-service dining.
Miss Lillian’s Smokehouse is a fan-favorite that serves up BBQ and fried chicken platters. It’s also known for the stuffed baked potatoes.
Now across from Miss Lillian’s, you’ll find the Grist Mill - home to the world-famous Dollywood Ciniemon Bread.
The line to get in builds throughout the day, so the longer you wait, the longer the line gets.
The Cinnamon Bread is well worth the wait - I can’t imagine visiting Dollywood and not stopping for this bread.
2 people can easily devour one loaf, so you might need to get a few. And plan to take some home, you can never have enough!
Thanks for joining me as I share some of my favorite tips about Dollywood at Christmas.
I don’t work with Dollywood as a travel advisor, this was just a fun project for me. But for help with your next Orlando vacation, click here to see more about how I can help.

Disney Dream Cruise Ship Summary
The Disney Dream (Disney Cruise Line) offers immersive spaces that are perfectly designed for families, kids, and adults.
The Disney Dream sails a variety of itineraries all over the world, including cruises to top European destinations in the summer season, voyages from New York City in the fall and Bahamas and Caribbean sailings from south Florida.
Onboard, a guest favorite is the AquaDuck, a 765-foot long water coaster that suspends riders high above the sea; get lost in a magical tale of love during an exclusive live performance of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”; rediscover beloved stories, songs and characters during other Broadway-style stage spectaculars; and enjoy much-needed “me time” at dedicated kids’ clubs and adult escapes.
Why It’s Popular
Enchanting Entertainment: Delight in Broadway-caliber musicals, lively deck parties and fireworks at sea (fireworks on most cruises).
Spacious Staterooms: Designed for Families: extra space and storage, sitting area, and split bath to allow more people to get ready simultaneously.
Disney’s Private Island: Relax in paradise with beach chairs, umbrellas, waterslides and a buffet lunch (on most Bahamian and Caribbean cruises).
Variety of Dining Options: Enjoy upscale restaurants, buffets, poolside snacks and 24-hour room service.
Imaginative Youth Clubs: Play in themed clubs for every age, staffed by specially trained Disney counselors.
Nightclubs & Lounges: Discover adults-only areas that include a variety of bars and pubs.
Pools & Recreation: Splash it up in freshwater pools and waterslides at sea.
Entertainment
From dazzling stage shows to over-the-top deck parties, entertainment aboard the Disney Dream is designed to delight the entire family. Broadway-style stage spectaculars delight audiences in the lavish Walt Disney Theatre, one of which is exclusively presented aboard the Disney Dream.
“Beauty and the Beast” brings Belle’s enchanting adventure to the Walt Disney Theatre stage in a whole new way by incorporating imaginative elements from the live-action film and the classic animated feature. Guests are invited to experience this tale as old as time like never before, as they are whisked away on a magical journey to discover the power of transformation in this Broadway-style musical that is exclusive to the Disney Dream.
