New Disney World Offer - Save on SUV Rentals
Guests who book a Walt Disney World vacation package can now get a discount on Standard SUV rentals.
Guests who book a Walt Disney World vacation package can now get a discount on Standard SUV rentals.
This special offer is available from Apr. 1 – June 19, 2024.
I rent a lot of cars for travel and I know that the rental car companies like to invent their own car classes, different from the manufacturer. “Standard SUV” can mean many things.
According to Alamo, a Standard SUV is a Ford Edge or similar.
Examples of “similar” may include:
Chevrolet Blazer
Nissan Murano
Jeep Cherokee
Hyundai Santa Fe
Chevrolet Equinox
Dodge Durango
Alamo in particular tends to have a lot of Blazers and Muranos. I have yet to see a Ford Edge but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
This Disney World offer is valid on daily and weekly rentals, regardless of the length of rental.
The most common rental locations are Orlando International Airport and the Walt Disney World Car Care Center, located on Disney property just outside Magic Kingdom Park.
Disney is no longer charging for overnight parking at its hotels. If you have a Disney World vacation package, you will not be charged to park your vehicle at any of the theme parks.

January 26, 2024, will be the last day to see the current rendition of the Country Bear Jamboree at Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World Resort.
This is the second major refurbishment of the Magic Kingdom attraction, the last being in 2012 when some of the songs were omitted, making the show about 5 minutes shorter.
Country Bear Jamboree at Walt DIsney World
If you’re a fan of the Country Bears, don't worry. It’s not going away completely. The new version of the show will be called the Country Bears Musical Jamboree and will still feature the beloved bears.
The theater will be transformed into a Nashville-inspired, Grand Ole Opry-style show with reinterpreted Disney tunes.
Watch the Country Bear Jamboree Show on Youtube
The Disney songs will be performed in different country music genres such as bluegrass, pop-country, rockabilly, and Americana.
The Country Bear Jamboree was originally planned for Disney’s Mineral King Ski Resort in California, but that project never took off, and soon after Walt Disney passed away.
Plans for the show carried on. Imagineers decided to place the show in Walt Disney World as an opening day attraction. It opened on October 1, 1971.
Country Bear Jamboree was so successful in Florida, that a copy of the show was made for Disneyland, which also inspired a whole new land, called Bear Country.
In 1983, Tokyo Disneyland also got a Country Bears show.
In 2001, the Disneyland California version closed to make way for The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. The Florida version remained.
Country Bear Musical Jamboree will debut sometime this summer, ahead of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, opening in late 2024, also in Magic Kingdom.

5 Tips for Visiting Dollywood at Christmas
Dollywood during the Christmas season is a magical smokey mountain experience offering an amazing amount of high-quality shows entertainment, authentic southern fried chicken and BBQ, and of course family-friendly rides.
Dollywood during the Christmas season is a magical smokey mountain experience offering an amazing amount of high-quality shows entertainment, authentic southern fried chicken and BBQ, and of course family-friendly rides.
Here are my top 5 tips for visiting Dollywood during Christmas.
5: Avoiding crowds
Orlando gets so crowded during Christmas week, that we like to leave let the crowds take over the city a while. This year we visited Dollywood in Tennesee.
Using what we know about the Orlando theme parks, we decided to arrive an hour early, especially because it was Christmas week.
I expected the crowd levels to be higher than usual. but they were nothing compared to Disney or Universal.
And while there were a ton of people waiting for the park to open, the crowds evened out and it didn’t feel too bad at all.
Dollywood opened at 11 a.m. so plan to be in the parking lot by 10 a.m. or even earlier. we stopped for a coffee first planning to sit in the car for a bit, but at 10 a.m. people were already getting in line at the gate.
Traffic getting into the park can back up causing long delays to pay for parking and to park the car. So this is another good reason to show up at least an hour early.
On the morning we were there, the park opened about 15 minutes early. I think they do this to help get the crowds moving through the gate.
Just like Disney World and Universal, you can enjoy 1 to 2 hours of lighter crowds when the park first opens to guests.
4: TimeSaver
Dollywood has a skip-the-line perk called TimeSaver, this is similar to Express Pass at Universal Orlando where you can bypass the regular queue using a dedicated line, with no reservations or mobile app needed (I'm looking at you Disney World).
I do feel it’s worth it to get TimeSaver because everyone wants to ride the coasters. The coasters had very long waits, over an hour throughout most of the day.
TimeSaver is money well spent if you want to get a lot done on your visit.
The basic TimeSavepass starts around $60 per person and the unlimited TimeSaver pass, which allows you to use it multiple times on the same ride, starts around $80 per person.
If you stay at Dollywood’s Dreammore Resort and Dollywood’s Heart Song Lodge. you’ll get complimentary TimeSaver Passes.
3: Rides at Dollywood During Christmas
If you are a ride family, you should do the popular rides right as the park opens.
I recommend starting with the Big Bear Mountain. This is by far the most popular ride in the park.
It’s nearly 1 mile of track and has 3 launches, yet very family friendly. No big drops or loops. It’s fast and has nearly 2 minutes of ride time. It’s a must-do for sure.
You’ll also want to ride the train, it operates on a set set schedule so check the app for times.
Most of the rides are operating during the Christmas season, except for the water rides of course because it’s a little too chilly for those.
And speaking of weather, the temperature can vary here in the smokey mountains. On the day we visited it was about 50 degrees during the day, and mid 40s at night.
But temps can get as high as 60 on some days.
I recommend bringing a warm jacket, hat, and gloves, but I’m from Orlando, so anything under 70 feels cold to me.
2: See the Shows at Dollywood
But you also want to keep an eye on showtimes.
Dollywood has several Christmas-themed shows that run on set times.
Download the Dollywood mobile app to see showtimes and special events.
One of the most popular shows is Christmas in the Smokies.
It’s Dollywood’s favorite Christmas tradition.
A cast of fourteen singers and dancers performs holiday favorites while accompanied by live musicians in an over-the-top Broadway musical, or maybe I should say Nashville-style musical production.
For this show, you’ll want to arrive at least 30 minutes before show time to get a good seat.
Most performances do reach capacity but there are several shows offered daily.
Two other must-see Christmas shows in Dollywood are the Candlelight Carolers who sing inside and outside Robert Thomas Chapel, yes Dollywood has an actual working chapel.
You’ll also want to see O’ Holy Night, a living nativity musical that tells the true meaning of Christmas.
At Dollywood, you have a chance to see Santa’s cabin in the Smokies as he checks his infamous list!
Families can discover whether their name is on the naughty or nice list in a unique Santa experience.
Finally, be on the lookout for atmosphere characters and musicians roaming the parks.
1: Dining at Dollywood
Dollywood is known for having excellent food, mainly fried chicken and barbecue.
And compared to the Orlando theme parks, prices are much lower than what I would expect.
That’s true about most of Dollywood, the food, beverages, and even souvenirs are not ridiculously expensive.
We wanted to make the most of the day here so we opted for quick-service dining.
Miss Lillian’s Smokehouse is a fan-favorite that serves up BBQ and fried chicken platters. It’s also known for the stuffed baked potatoes.
Now across from Miss Lillian’s, you’ll find the Grist Mill - home to the world-famous Dollywood Ciniemon Bread.
The line to get in builds throughout the day, so the longer you wait, the longer the line gets.
The Cinnamon Bread is well worth the wait - I can’t imagine visiting Dollywood and not stopping for this bread.
2 people can easily devour one loaf, so you might need to get a few. And plan to take some home, you can never have enough!
Thanks for joining me as I share some of my favorite tips about Dollywood at Christmas.
I don’t work with Dollywood as a travel advisor, this was just a fun project for me. But for help with your next Orlando vacation, click here to see more about how I can help.

The Disney Dream continues the Disney Cruise Line tradition of age-appropriate fun for kids of all ages in specially designated spaces just for them:

Entertainment on the Disney Treasure
Entertainment aboard the Disney Treasure will immerse guests in worlds both real and imagined, through interactive storytelling, character encounters, and Broadway-style theatrical adaptations of inspiring Disney adventures.
The Grand Hall will be the key to unlocking a trove of captivating new entertainment, including dedicated shows, character encounters, and musical performances.
As the story unfolds for guests on the Disney Treasure, the “Aladdin”-themed Grand Hall will serve as the ship’s most prominent gathering space, inspiring wonder and exploration during each voyage.
The uniquely designed two-story space will evoke the natural beauty and openness of the savanna and will feature cruise line classics such as “Match Your Mate” and “Family Time Game Show,” and new favorites that debuted on the Disney Wish like “Villains Game Night.”
The Walt Disney Theatre is an opulent show palace that will come alive with original Broadway-style productions developed exclusively for Disney Cruise Line – “Beauty and the Beast” and “Disney Seas the Adventure” – both Disney Cruise Line fan favorites.
Hero Zone and the Wonderland and Never Land Cinemas, popular spaces from the Disney Wish, will provide family entertainment aboard the Disney Treasure.
Just For Kids - Disney Treasure
Marvel Super Hero Academy is a high-tech Avengers headquarters where young “recruits” will train to be the next generation of superheroes with the help of their own heroes, like Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Ant-Man.
Fairytale Hall is a royal collection of activity rooms where princesses and princes will let their creativity shine at Rapunzel’s Art Studio, read and act out stories at Belle’s Library and more.
At Walt Disney Imagineering Lab, kids will discover the secrets of world-renowned Disney Imagineers — the creative masterminds behind Disney theme parks, resorts, and cruise ships — with hands-on activities and inventive experiments.
At Star Wars: Cargo Bay, the peculiar creatures and legendary characters from a galaxy far, far away take center stage immersing kids in their own Star Wars story as they take on the role of creature handlers and learn to manage a mischievous menagerie of exotic beings.
Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck is a nautical playground inspired by the colors, icons, and magic of Disney Cruise Line. Little cadets will set sail on a fun-filled adventure with an array of maritime-themed physical and sensory-style games and activities.
Dining
In addition to the return of two beloved Disney Cruise Line restaurant concepts found on the Disney Wish, the Disney Treasure will introduce a brand-new family entertainment restaurant.
Plaza de Coco will be the world’s first theatrical dining experience themed to the Disney and Pixar film, “Coco.” The story of Miguel and his familia will continue where it left off on screen as they gather in Mariachi Plaza to take guests on two nights of colorful, music-filled journeys that celebrate family memories and togetherness with festive dinner menus of modern twists on traditional Mexican fare and a lineup of live entertainment.
Worlds of Marvel, Disney Cruise Line’s immersive Marvel-themed dining experience, celebrates favorite Avengers characters and stories, including an amazing interaction with Spider-Man.
This high- tech venue aboard the Disney Treasure will offer a worldly menu and special entertainment, including two separate nights with distinct shows and dining, all inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
1923, named for the founding year of Walt Disney Animation Studios, will celebrate the profound impact of Disney’s animation legacy and bring to life Walt Disney’s love of adventure through a nostalgic collection of exploration-themed artwork from both modern and classic animated films.
Steeped in the glamour of Hollywood’s golden age, the venue’s upscale ambiance will complement a sophisticated menu inspired by the fusion of cultural flavors found throughout California and designed with families in mind.
Marceline Market is the primary buffet restaurant onboard the Treasure and features an ever-changing menu.
Mickey & Friends Festival of Food is the quick-service eatery on the Disney Treasure serving up BBQ, chicken, burgers, tacos, and pizza. A late-night menu is also available.
The Disney Treasure will continue Disney Cruise Line’s innovative family dining concept, where guests experience one of three imaginative restaurants each night, accompanied by a dedicated service team that joins them throughout the voyage, adding a level of familiarity to their dining experience.
The new ship will feature quick bites, casual dining, 24-hour room service, specialty dining, gourmet coffee, adults-only dining, and Jumbeaux’s Sweets, inspired by the popular ice cream parlor featured in Disney’s “Zootopia.”
Periscope Pub will be Disney Cruise Line’s first venue inspired by the spellbinding adventure of Walt Disney’s 1954 film, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” and the celebrated Disney Parks attraction that was open at Walt Disney World from 1971 to 1994.
Guests will dive into the mythical depths of uncharted oceans amidst the submarine-styled interiors and take a look at the watery world below through an intriguing glass ceiling.
In addition to watching the latest sports games, explorers at the Periscope Pub will encounter a menu of craft brews and light bites.
Adventure awaits guests beneath a tangle of untamed foliage at Skipper Society, a centrally located outpost that will feature refined nods to the iconic Jungle Cruise attraction at Disney theme parks around the globe.
The venue’s natural colorways and camp-style furnishings, paired with sly tributes to the trusty, dry-witted skippers who lead world-famous tours across treacherous waterways, will offer an elevated, yet playful atmosphere where guests will indulge in themed cocktails and light snacks.
Fan-favorite, adult-exclusive dining locations will also return on the Disney Treasure. Guests will savor gourmet meals and exceptional beverages at Palo Steakhouse, Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement and The Rose, an upscale suite of epicurean excellence exclusively for adults, inspired by the elegant icons of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Beauty and the Beast.”
The popular Palo Steakhouse will come to the Disney Treasure, combining the relaxed sophistication of authentic Italian dining with the classic refinement of a modern steakhouse in a genteel setting inspired by Cogsworth, the tale’s majordomo-turned-enchanted-clock.
Enchanté will offer the most luxurious dining experience on board, featuring a gourmet menu crafted by three-Michelin-starred Chef Arnaud Lallement.
This romantic and intimate venue will evoke the dazzling spirit of the film’s candelabra maître d’, Lumiere.
The Rose will be a chic lounge at the entrance of Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté.
Inspired by the fateful flower at the heart of the story, The Rose will be an idyllic setting for an after-dinner cocktail.
Staterooms
The staterooms on board Disney Treasure are built with families in mind and feature upscale amenities. Most will include Disney Cruise Line’s signature split-bath concept, and many will offer the option of a connecting door that adjoins staterooms to accommodate larger groups voyaging together – with 451 connecting doors in all. In addition, most of the ship’s 1,256 staterooms will offer an ocean view.
The Disney Treasure concierge-level staterooms and suites will offer both adventure and indulgence and an exclusive concierge lounge with a private sun deck that serves as the perfect place to relax, sip a cocktail, and enjoy a variety of food and beverages throughout the day.

The Disney Wonder began the Disney Cruise Line tradition of age-appropriate fun for kids of all ages in specially designated spaces just for them:
Disney’s Oceaneer Club transports kids ages 3 to 12 to the magical lands of Disney fairies, courageous superheroes, and adventuresome toys.
Disney’s Oceaneer Lab is a nautical wonderland where children aged 3 to 12 embark on a journey of discovery with arts and crafts, gaming, and counselor-led activities.
It’s a Small World Nursery is a whimsical world for infants and toddlers up to age 3 where they are safely cared for by trained Disney counselors.
Vibe (ages 14 to 17) and Edge (ages 11 to 14) are ultra-cool teen and tween hangouts with comfy couches, music, video games and other chill-out necessities.
At Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, aspiring young princess and knights become Disney royalty with the help of a fairy godmother-in-training. When the pirate deck party is on the evening schedule, the space transforms into The Pirate League, where young sailors can unleash their inner buccaneer with a piratical makeover.
Dining on Disney Wonder
Enjoying the three uniquely themed family restaurants aboard the Disney Wonder is convenient and hassle-free, as guests “rotate” through the restaurants each night accompanied by the same serving team for a variety of menus and cuisines and friendly, personalized service.
Tiana’s Place, exclusive to the Disney Wonder, treats guests to a celebration of New Orleans-inspired dining and entertainment. The menu is a mouthwatering medley of southern-style creations that draw inspiration from the flavors and ingredients of Louisiana. Tiana’s Place provides food for the body and soul, showing that dreams and dishes come true. Just before you enter Tiana’s Place, you’ll be met with French Quarter Lounge, a New Orleans-inspired watering hole where guests can kick back with special libations and plenty of jazzy live entertainment.
Tritons, named after the Little Mermaid’s father, is an upscale restaurant offering sophisticated family dining “under the sea.” Brimming with ornate chandeliers, stained glass, sea-inspired architectural flourishes and a sweeping mural of Ariel and her father, Triton’s serves up a regal atmosphere that guests of all ages are sure to admire.
Animator’s Palate, one of the most popular restaurants on the Disney ships, features animation-adorned walls and larger high-definition flat-screens to provide the best views of the animation magic that takes place all around. Animator’s Palate inspires creativity with “Drawn to Magic,” a black-and-white to color animation show that surrounds guests in the swirling colors of animated classics and transports their dining experience into a dramatic story of heroes and villains.
An adult-exclusive restaurant – Palo, specializing in modern Italian cuisine, features stunning ocean views and a formal, romantic ambiance.
Staterooms
Disney Cruise Line staterooms are designed with families in mind, they do it better than anyone else. Staterooms aboard the Disney Wonder are spacious and can easily accommodate 4 or even 5 guests with plenty of room.
Four main categories encompass 10 different room types—or different deck locations within those types.

Goofy’s Pool, a relaxing pool for families of all ages to enjoy.
Wide World of Sports Deck, the ideal spot for a pick-up game, ping-pong match or enjoying breathtaking ocean views.
Excitement and Relaxation for Adults
On the Disney Wonder, guests step into a domain that’s all their own at After Hours, an extraordinary adult- exclusive nighttime entertainment neighborhood that features trendy and sophisticated bars and lounges.
Crown & Fin Pub resembles a traditional British tavern, with dark woods, plush leather furniture and brass accents. Guests can duck in for a jolly time and a frosty pint while socializing at this inviting and nostalgic bar.
Cadillac Lounge delights guests with the glitz of classic Hollywood, featuring an intimate and upscale atmosphere, crafted mixed drinks and live piano music nightly.
Azure is an adults-only hotspot inspired by the shapes, colors, sounds and movements of the sea. The lounge – awash with a bar, dance floor and plenty of seating – features flowing, curvy walls reminiscent of the ever-changing current.
At the luxurious Senses Spa & Salon, adults ages 18 and older can indulge spa treatments, massages, manicures, pedicures, and a rainforest-themed aromatherapy steam room and sauna. The fitness center is well-appointed with state-of-the-art equipment and offers personal training sessions and instructional classes in yoga, Pilates, aerobics and more.

Allure of the Seas - Royal Caribbean
See what is so special about Allure of the Seas, one of the largest cruise ships in the world.
Allure of the Seas
Royal Caribbean’s Allure of the Seas offers a wealth of activities and amenities specifically designed for families. With its diverse entertainment options, kid-friendly spaces, and plenty of dining options it’s one of my favorite ships in Royal Caribbean’s fleet. Oasis Class ships are likely to win anyone over, not just because of their incredible size, but they deliver on a memorable and exciting vacation for travelers of all ages.
One of the most remarkable features of the Allure of the Seas, or any Oasis Class ship for that matter, is its innovative neighborhood concept.

Entertainment on Allure of the Seas
When it comes to entertainment, the Allure of the Seas sets the stage for an unforgettable experience.
Witness the dazzling aquatic performances at the awe-inspiring AquaTheater, where acrobats and high divers captivate audiences with their gravity-defying stunts.
If you're in the mood for a Broadway-style show, head to the magnificent Amber Theater, where the best talent from around the world takes center stage with captivating performances.
Amber Theater: This three-deck masterpiece starting on Deck 4 seats 1,380 people and features Broadway styles shows.
AquaTheater: Brace yourself for the most daring stage at sea (Deck 6, aft)! With 2,000 water nozzles, acrobatic pools, and aerial feats.
The first 3 rows are rows are in the "splash zone."
This is the most popular show on the ship so you’ll want to arrive early for good seats, which I think are located in the back of the theater.
By sitting in the back, you get a more panoramic view of the stage.
I also recommend making a reservation.
If reservations are not available prior to sailing, then make your reservation on Day 1 of your cruise.
The Royal Promenade's On Air Club is a versatile venue that offers a range of activities during the day. Guests can participate in classes like towel folding, napkin folding, trivia, and bingo.
Studio B hosts dazzling evening ice shows, including the unique "Ice Games," a Monopoly-themed spectacle begging for audience interaction.
Most cruises have an electrifying Glow Party at least once per sailing, so be sure to check that out if it’s offered.
Ice skating on allure of the seas
Live comedy and jazz performances are offered nightly - I recommend making reservations on the Royal Caribbean app once onboard.
Casino on Allure of the Seas
Casino Royale
Try your luck at the ship’s massive casino with 450 slot machines, table games like Blackjack, roulette, and craps. Check your Cruise Planner for slot and poker tournaments.

Arrive about 20 minutes to get a good spot as this are of the ship does not handle large crowds well.
Karaoke Champions: Belt out your favorite tunes at the On Air Club, where karaoke nights promise laughter and unexpected talents. This is one of the most popular evening venues, it’s a good time.
Where to Eat on Allure of the Seas
Royal Caribbean offers a flexible dining option called My Time Dining, which allows you the freedom to choose when you’d like to dine in the main dining room.
If you prefer an assigned dinner time, you can choose from early and late seating times, usually around 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM but times vary by cruise.
Main dining room dress code is generally smart casual attire, but on formal evenings, formal attire such as suits, ties, tuxedos for men, and dresses for women is appropriate in the restaurant.
If you prefer not to get dressed up, you can still dine in the main dining room, no one is going to ask you to leave. But if you are worried that you might feel uncomfortable, you can dine at Windjammers which offers the same menu as the main dining room plus additional items.

What the Staterooms are like on Allure of the Seas
Like any cruise ship, there is a mind-boggling number of stateroom categories. But Allure’s rooms are categorized primarily by location.
Other than that, they all look nearly the same.
They can also be distinguished by how many people they sleep.
Most sleep between 2 and 4 people.
Rooms that sleep 3, known as triples, and rooms that sleep 4, known as quads, sell out first. There are more doubles than triples and quads.
All standard staterooms have two twin beds that can be converted into converting into a queen bed upon request. Most rooms have a small sofa, flat-screen TVs, a closet, cubbies, and under-bed storage.
Standard balcony staterooms are about 183 square feet. Categories 1D, 2D, 3D, and 4D are all Oceanview Balcony staterooms.

The most popular pools are the beach pool and sports pool.
The beach pool is a zero-entry pool so guests can just wade right in.
There are thousands of lounge chairs on the top deck however the ones near the pool and kids’ areas go fast.
There’s an additional pool located in the Solarium for adults only (age 18+).
This is by far the best pool on the ship and it’s often not too crowded.
Those seeking a little more adventure will relish in the ship's two distinct FlowRider surf simulators, rock climbing walls, and captivating zip line, offering a perfect blend of excitement and rejuvenation.

AVERAGE NIGHTLY RATES FOR DISNEY WORLD HOTELS
What the Walt Disney World Resort hotels cost per night, on average.
There are several rate seasons that Disney World uses to determine the nightly cost of a hotel room, mostly based on demand.
It’s important to know that Disney World is price-controlled. Whether you book it yourself, through a travel agent, or even a travel wholesaler, the price is going to be the same for everyone.
Don’t stress over nightly rates
Don’t drive yourself crazy over prices. In the end, Mickey gets your money. And that’s ok! We want him to show us a good time.
Think big picture when it comes to Disney packages
There are so many variables that affect the price.
For example, you might find a week with a lower hotel rate, but ticket prices cost more, or airfare is higher. It seems that if one vacation component is cheaper, the other costs more.
Instead, do this…
Decide on the time of year that you want to go. Traveling when you want has more value. If you don’t like heat and humidity, don’t come in August just to save a little money. That would be a poor value because you’re going to be uncomfortable.
If price is your primary concern, avoid holidays and spring break.
If your package is coming out too high, try a different hotel category or try a Disney Good Neighbor [off-property] hotel.

Disney Dining Plans: How they work and are they worth the cost?
Most people want to know 2 things: How do they work? Are they worth the cost? Let’s get started…
Everyday I get questions about the Disney dining plans. They are the most challenging component of a Walt Disney World package. Most people want to know 2 things: How do they work? And are they worth the cost?
Grand Floridian Cafe at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort
Well, in my experience at a travel advisor, those who purchase a dining plan find at least one of the following features appealing:
The all-inclusive nature of the dining plan
Ability to dine at the most popular Walt Disney World restaurants without worrying about costs adding up.
Transparent pricing - having a better idea of what the trip will cost well in advance.
I find that dining at Walt Disney World is the one vacation expense people do not sufficiently plan for.
Aside from being on vacation and having to eat all your meals in restaurants, you’re also a captive audience. Yeah, food costs a little more than if you were at home.
Why Disney offers dining plans
Disney’s goal is simple: the dining plans allow Disney to compete with the all-inclusive, family-friendly resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico.
Family cruises are extremely popular right now and of course, nearly everything is included in your cruise.
Introducing the 2024 Disney Dining Plans
Disney World currently has 2 dining plans:
Basic Disney Dining Plan (most popular)
Quick Service Dining Plan
California Grill at DIsney’s Contemporary Resort
Basic Disney Dining Plan:
Dining plans are per person and based on the number of package nights.
For each package night, each person will receive:
1 table service meal credit
1 quick service meal credit
1 snack or beverage credit
1 Resort-refillable mug per person in your package. Mugs are refilled at the self-service beverage station at your hotel's quick-service locations for the duration of the stay.
If you’re planning to do at least one Disney character meal, the Basic Disney Dining Plan is a great value. Most character meals cost 1 table service credit.
Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe at Magic Kingdom
Disney Quick Service Dining Plan:
For each package night, each person will receive:
2 quick-service meal credits
1 snack or beverage credit
1 Resort-refillable mug per person in your package. Mugs are refilled at the self-service beverage station at your hotel's quick-service locations for the duration of the stay.
How the dining plans work
You prepay for the majority of your meals in the form of credits.
For example, if you book a 6-night vacation package with the Quick Service Dining Plan, everyone listed on your reservation will receive:
12 quick service credits
6 snack or beverage credits
If you include the Regular Disney Dining Plan on a 6-night package, everyone on the reservation will receive:
6 table service meal credits
6 quick service meal credits
6 snack or beverage credits
Now here’s the important part.
All of your dining and snack credits will be deposited into one account when you check in to your hotel.
You will track your credits using the Disney World mobile app. Credits can be used at any time during your stay, even on your check-out day.
When ordering at any Disney restaurant, Cast Members will ask if you are using your dining plan credits. You’ll then tap your MagicBand, phone, or Key to the World Card to have the restaurant deduct your credits.
Cost of the Disney Dining Plans at Walt Disney World
The cost of the Basic Disney Dining Plan is
$94.20 per night, per person (ages 10+)
$29.69 per night, per person (ages 3-9).
The cost of the Quick-Service Dining Plan is
$57.01 per night for adults (age 10+)
$23.83 per night for children (ages 3 to 9.)
Children ages 3-9 will order from the kid’s menu when available
How to save money with a Disney Dining Plan
The dining plans offer a lot of value, so they are not just about saving money these days.
Today, it’s more about convenience and transparent pricing.
Purchasing a dining plan probably won’t cost you more money than paying out of pocket. The dining plans cost about what you would spend if you paid out of pocket.
See, Disney’s profit is built into the menu prices at the restaurants. Disney doesn’t double-dip by making a profit on the menu and then again on the dining plan.
Remember, Disney’s goal is to capture families who like the idea of all-inclusive travel, not necessarily making record profits dining.
Now, I know some of you are going to try and stick it to the Mouse with the dining plan and try to come out ahead. Great! I think it would be a fun challenge!
Here are my best tips for the Disney dining plan:
Dine at the Epcot table service restaurants.
Book character meals, as they are super expensive! You can break even on the cost of the dining plan with just one character meal.
Table service credits are a better value when used at dinner because menu prices are higher than at breakfast and lunch. Plus dessert is included.
Use your snack credits at Starbucks inside the parks.
Order a glass of beer or wine with your meal when included.
Teppan Edo at Epcot
Are the Disney dining plans worth the cost?
The Disney Dining Plans for Light Eaters
The Disney dining plans are not about eating a lot, they are about simplifying your vacation and bundling your expenses into one package.
And for the salad lovers, keep in mind that fresh salads at Walt Disney World cost more than entrees.
For example, at Sunshine Seasons inside Epcot, the Rotisserie Chicken Club Sandwich is $11 and the Power Salad with Grilled Chicken is $13.
Paying out of pocket vs. a Disney Dining Plan
The trend among travelers today is that they want to relax and indulge a little but they don’t want a big bill looming over them at the end of the vacation.
The Disney dining plans give travelers a better understanding of what the trip will cost, well in advance, and it helps them develop a budget around that.
A family of 4 could expect to pay $125-$145 at a table service restaurant an $55 to $65 at quick service restaurants.
Character meals range from about $45 to $55 per person.
Are tips included with the Disney Dining Plans?
No, but you won’t have to pay sales tax. At table service restaurants, a gratuity of 15% to 20% of the total bill is customary.
Even though you’re not paying out of pocket, total is still provided so you can determine what to leave for a tip.
Keeping track of your dining plan credits
Each time you redeem meal credits, the number of remaining entitlements will be printed on a receipt for you. You can also view your remaining credits in the My Disney Experience app.
Where to redeem dining plan credits
Almost every Walt Disney World restaurant accepts the Disney dining plans and most menu items are in included.
Do I need to make dining reservations in advance?
Yes, restaurants at Walt Disney World are extremely popular. Dining reservations become available to you 60-days prior to your check in date.
Are character meals included with the dining plans?
Yes, most character meals count as one table service credit but there are a few, like Cinderella’s Royal Table that costs 2 table service credits.
Hoop Dee Doo Musical Review is included as well.
Using 2 table service credits for Disney World Signature restaurants
There is a small number of fine dining restaurants at Walt Disney World known as Signature Restaurants. Dining at restaurants like California Grill or Be Our Guest Restaurant will cost 2 table service credits because they are upgrade experiences.
Generally speaking, you would be better off paying out of pocket that using 2 credits. Signature restaurants are expensive, but not 2-table service credits expensive.
Can I use 2 quick service credits for 1 table service meal?
No. Quick service meal entitlements can only be used on quick service dining.

Beware of Disney Gift Card Scams
How to protect yourself from this Disney Gift Card scam
By Darren Wittko
It’s no surprise that Disney vacations are pricey and while I believe you get what you pay for, it helps to save money anywhere you can. Disney Gift Cards can often be purchased for amounts less than their printed value at stores like Target and BJ’s Wholesale.
Disney Destinations allows you to pay for your vacation using Disney Gift Cards so purchasing them at a discount is a nice little hack to get extra savings.
Here’s what happened to me. I had planned a Disney cruise for my family and purchased several gift cards at BJ’s Wholesale Club.
I saved about 5% on $3,000 worth of gift cards - close to $150. Not a big savings, all things considered, but it seemed worth it at the time.
A few days later I went to apply payment to our reservation and discovered that six of the gift cards, each with $100 on them, had a zero balance.
I immediately returned to BJ’s figuring my gift cards hadn’t been activated properly. After a lot of back and forth with the store manager and Disney, it was determined my cards had already been redeemed - I was scammed!
So how did this happen?
There have been numerous scams reported with gift cards, not just with Disney, and according to the FBI, scams are on the rise and getting more sophisticated.
The More Simple Scam
There are numerous scams fraudsters use to gain gift card numbers, many are pretty high-tech.
But the simplest method is just taking the cards off the rack in the store. These are the cards that are accessible to everyone.
The scammer writes down the gift card numbers and scratches off the security strip on the back of the cards to get the security codes.
The scammer then puts replacement strips over the security codes and then sneaks them back into the store. Replacement strips are available online.
Sammers can replace the security code with products easily found online.
Later, after you buy one of those cards and load money onto it, the scammer gets an instant alert that tells him that the funds have been loaded onto the card.
According to the FBI, the scammer knows as soon as someone activates the card, because they use automated software that periodically checks the card balance via the internet, this is called pinging.
If he’s a low-tech thief, he just checks the Disney gift card website every day until he sees funds have been added.
And if you haven’t activated your gift card yet, he takes the funds.
What does the scammer do with the gift cards?
He can sell the cards to companies that purchase gift cards for a reduced rate, such as raise.com. These sites exist for those who get gift cards but would rather trade them in instead of redeeming them.
Perfect for when you get that gift card to the Jelly of the Month Club.
For example, a company might offer $75 on a $100 gift card.
But to the scammer, that's an easy profit of $75.
The scammer can also launder the money through online classified sites like Craigslist or eBay for legitimate products they purchased from the Disney Store.
How to Protect Yourself from Gift Card Fraud
Buy gift cards online directly from the retailer. Criminals do not have easy access to those cards. Buy online especially if you're purchasing a high-value gift card.
Don't buy in-store racked cards with easily accessible numbers and PINs. If you buy in a retail store, look for gift cards kept behind the counter or in well-sealed packaging.
If possible, change the security code as soon as you buy the card. Register the gift card when you get home and change the PIN.
If you are purchasing numerous gift cards, consolidate them down to one card as soon as possible, and change the primary card’s PIN. With Disney Gift Cards, you can transfer as much as $1,000 onto one card. And be sure to redeem that card as soon as possible!

Can I make changes to tickets once I purchase them?
Yes, you will be able to make modifications to the usage date for their date-based tickets after they are purchased.
Are Universal Orlando Date-Based Tickets Refundable?
Per Universal’s policy, ticket purchases are non-refundable when purchased outside of a vacation package. Tickets being exchanged for dates that are either equal in price or at a lesser price will be treated as an even exchange and will not be charged any additional amount. Guests who change their tickets to a date that has a higher price point will have to pay the difference prior to park entry.
Is it better to book tickets in advance?
Yes. Universal tickets purchased at the gate cost more than if you purchase them online. Universal Orlando guarantees the lowest ticket prices on its website and when you purchase direct, you’ll get early park admission.
I have unused Universal tickets. Will they still work?
Unused Universal tickets from a previous visit may still be accepted. Most likely Universal will take the value of the ticket and apply it toward the purchase of a new ticket. You should call Universal Orlando Resort to ask about your specific ticket type. (877) 801-9720
