Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Vacation Package and Disney World Tickets
Many consider Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort the best hotel at Disney World. Here’s why.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is all about location, location, location. ! This Disney World Deluxe Resort is on the monorail to Magic Kingdom, and you can walk to the Epcot monorail line, which is a very nice perk. The Polynesian is four hotels in one: the original mid-century modern hotel and two Disney Vacation Club sections called Island Tower, the Villas at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, and the Bungalows. It’s also a AAA 4-Diamond Award winner.
Dining, shopping, hotel check-in, and the monorail are all located in the Great Ceremonial House, the main building within the resort.
Its nearly 500 guest rooms are located inside several, 3-story outer buildings called longhouses. The furthest is an 8-minute walk from The Great Ceremonial House.
Exterior pathways lead to the different buildings. Hotel rooms are accessed through interior hallways.

Transportation from Orlando International Airport and Walt Disney World (and Universal)
Popular transportation options between Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World, and Universal Orlando
What’s the best way to get from Orlando International Airport to Walt Disney World, and back again?
In this guide, I’ll share the most popular options for ground transfers to and from Orlando’s theme parks, even Port Canaveral, plus my recommended vendors.
Private Town Cars and Vans
In my opinion, hiring a car service is the way to go because you are guaranteed a professionally trained driver and a clean vehicle. One of the biggest complaints I hear from people using Uber and Lyft in Orlando is that the cars are often dirty. I also hear that it’s difficult to find a ride that has a car seat for little ones.
If you’re comparing a car service to a shuttle, consider this: a private car will travel directly to your destination in a fraction of the time a shuttle will take.
They also make runs to Port Canaveral for cruises. Most will include a free grocery stop after pick up from the airport.
Pros:
24-hour service, fast and direct.
Professional drivers who assist with luggage
Will pick up from any terminal at the airport
Airport fees are included in the price.
Car seats are available upon request
May cost less than a shared shuttle service
My Preferred Car Services In Orlando
Orlando Superior Transportation
Orlando Superior Transportation has professionally trained drivers and a fleet of town cars and limos servicing Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and Port Canaveral.
They offer affordable pricing. Rates start at $95 one-way for 4–6 passengers. Promo rates are often available. For example, I recently saw a 15% promo code available on their website, reducing the cost to $80.75.
Complimentary car seats and booster seats are available. A 15–20-minute grocery stop can be included.
There are convenient payment options as well. Both cash and credit cards are accepted.
Your driver will meet you inside the baggage claim area at MCO and assist you with luggage.
Tiffany Towncar
Tiffany Town Car has been in business since 1998. Tiffany offers professional drivers and vehicles that can accommodate 4 people up to 10 people. They specialize in Walt Disney World and Port Canaveral but will also provide transportation to Universal Orlando, Brightline, and Amtrak.
Fares between Orlando International Airport and Walt Disney World start at $95 each way. Fares to Port Canaveral start at $155 each way.
A driver gratuity of 20% is not included but is recommended. Complimentary car seats and booster seats are offered plus a complimentary grocery stop can be arranged with advance notice.
Mears Connect Shuttle Service
Mears Connect provides convenient airport transfers for guests traveling to and from the Orlando International Airport (MCO) and various destinations in the area, including Walt Disney World.
Mears Connect is generally more economical but may result in longer travel times due to multiple stops. BUt check your prices, if you have a large party, it may be cheaper or at least similarly priced to a car service.
You can book Mears Connect services in advance through their website or at designated locations in the airport. Upon arrival, passengers can check in at the Mears Connect desk located in the airport's terminal, where staff will assist with boarding the bus.
Pros:
Discounts and deals are often available
Operates 24 hours
Cons:
The slowest option takes 90 minutes or more
You may leave for the airport sooner than if you went by Uber or town car
RideShares - Uber and Lyft in Orlando
Use your phone to request a ride from Uber or Lyft. No advance reservations are required offer you the most flexibility with your schedule.
Pros
Fast, direct service
Plenty of availability in Orlando including SUVs and vans
Pick up from any terminal at Orlando International Airport
Car seats can be requested
Go anywhere in Orlando, even Universal and Port Canaveral.
Cons
Surge pricing often in effect in Orlando
Fares may change when there’s heavy traffic.
Somewhat confusing menu of vehicle types and services (like requesting car seats).
Uber and Lyft are by far the easiest way to get around Orlando. If you’re comfortable using ride shares, this is an excellent way to go.
Fares are typically in the $60 - $80 range (each way).
See my article on how to use Uber and Lyft at Walt Disney World
Car Rentals in Orlando
Add a rental car to your Walt Disney World for competitive rates.
Pros:
Rental rates are competitive in Orlando
Free parking at Disney World hotels and theme parks (when staying at a Disney World hotel).
Disney has Alamo and Enterprise on property and a free shuttle to Disney World hotels.
Travel protection purchased from Disney covers your rental car in most situations.
Cons:
You could have a long walk when parking at the theme parks.
Fees are charged if you return the vehicle to a different location than where you rented it.
Booking a rental car through Disney offers a competitive rate and the convenience of having it listed in your travel plans. You can choose to rent from Orlando International Airport or one of the onsite offices at Walt Disney World.
You can also book a car on your own of course. For tips, see my article, How to Save Money on Car Rentals in Orlando.

How to Get Around Walt Disney World using Disney Transportation
How to get around Walt Disney World using buses, monorails, boats, Disney Minnie Van, and Skyliner. This is your complete guide to Disney World transportation.
Walt Disney World has the 3rd largest bus fleet in the state of Florida just behind Miami and Jacksonville. Buses are just one of the ways Disney moves 1 million visitors each week.
Watch the video:
Disney World created a logical, efficient mass transportation system with overhead monorail and gondola systems, buses, watercraft, and even their own rideshare service.
Here’s how Disney moves visitors across its 50 square miles of property in Central Florida every day.
Disney World Buses
Buses are the most common way to get around Walt Disney World. Rather than have bus routes, Disney buses use a point-to-point system making the theme parks themselves transportation hubs.
This eliminates the need to transfer buses in most cases, making it easier for guests, and significantly reduces travel time.
Disney World buses travel between hotels and one of 4 theme parks, more like a shuttle rather than a complex network of routes around a city.
The bus has only one destination so guests do not have to study a map to find their stop.
In exchange for this simplicity, Disney buses do not travel between hotels. They travel between hotels and theme parks, and from theme park to theme park.
The one exception is the Disney Water Parks, guests will need to transfer at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park to get to Blizzard Beach, and to get to Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, guests need to transfer at Disney Springs.
For this reason, many guests use Uber, Lyft, and Miniei Van.
At the theme park transportation hubs, Disney buses are constantly arriving and departing from other areas on Disney World property.
Guests can get to any destination from a Disney theme park.
But what if you need to travel between hotels for a dining reservation?
Well, in this case, they will need to travel from their hotel to the nearest theme park and transfer there to the other hotel.
Disney World ensures that bus stops are well-marked with signs because most of its visitors have no idea how to get where they’re going. And digital marques on the bus confirm its destination.
Disney’s goal is to have a bus arrive every 20 minutes. They use a dynamic dispatching system that assigns buses to an area in need.
Disney recently began reporting expected arrival times at its hotel bus stops.
Buses begin operating about 1 hour before the theme park’s earliest posted opening time, taking into consideration early park admission. Buses continue to operate for one hour after the park closes including special after-hours events.
In the mid-2000s Disney began investing in low-floor buses that make it easier and faster for passengers with scooters and strollers to board.
Buses can accommodate up to 2 scooters. Strollers must be folded before boarding, so it’s a good idea not to stuff the stroller.
As we're about to discover, Disney has many other forms of transportation available to move guests around property.
For this reason, bus service is not offered or may be limited where there are other options available.
Using the Walt Disney World Monorail System
The Walt Disney World monorail System is an icon, having been in operation since 1971. 12 monorails carry 160,000 riders every day, making it the 3rd most heavily used monorail system in the world.
The current trains came online in 1989 and operate on 3 lines: Magic Kingdom Resorts, Magic Kingdom Express, and Epcot.
The Walt Disney World Monorail System uses a hub and spoke design, with all 3 lines originating at Disney’s main terminal called the Ticket and Transportation Center.
The Magic Kingdom Resort Line services 3 Walt Disney World Deluxe hotels:
Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Resort, and Grand Floridian Resort plus a stop at the Ticket and Transporation Center for guests who want to transfer to the Epcot line.
For example, say you are staying at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and you want to travel to Epcot.
You will take the Resort Monorail, get off at the Ticket and Transportation Center, and transfer to the Epcot line.
The Express monorail line has only 2 stops: the Ticket and Transporation Center and the Magic Kingdom.
This line is shuttles guests between the Magic Kingdom parking lot and the theme park. Guests who are park hopping between Magic Kingdom and Epcot will also use this line.
And the Epcot monorails operate between the Ticket and Transportation Center Epcot.
Monorails begin operating about 60-90 minutes prior to park opening and after the parks close.
Scooters are accommodated on the monorails, and strollers do not need to be folded to board.
Guide to Disney World Boats
When Disney World was being built in the late 1960s, a network of canals was created to manage the high water table and to prevent flooding.
Engineers who worked on the Panama Canal were hired by Disney to oversee the project.
Today these canals also serve as major waterways to move guests around Disney World property.
Disney Water taxis connect all 5 Magic Kingdom resorts, ferryboats connect the parking lot to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot is connected to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and all the resorts in between, and Disney Springs is connected to 4 resort hotels via the Disney created, Sassagoula River.
Disney uses a variety of boats around property, some are scooter and wheelchair accessible while others are not.
If a boat is not accessible, an alternate type of transportation is provided - either a different boat, a monorail, or bus will be operating as well.
On Disney’s smaller boats, strollers must be folded and stowed out of the aisle.
But on the larger boats like ferries and the Friendship boats like this one here, strollers do not need to be folded.
Boats arrive about every 20 minutes piloted by 1-2 Cast Members.
They begin operating 60-90 minutes prior to park opening and will continue operating 60-90 minutes after park closing.
There is no central hub on any of the boat routes, they either shuttle between point A and point B or operate a repeating circuit.
Signs are posted to let guests know where the boat is headed.
And some boats are marked with a colored flag that also indicates it’s destination.
Disney World Minnie Vans
As rideshare services grew in popularity, Disney had the idea to create its own version of Uber and Lyft to service its 50 square miles of property in Orlando. Disney transportation is free, but it takes time, think of it as public transportation.
It works, but a car is faster.
In many cases, a bus ride at Disney, from start to finish can take over an hour. Minnie Vans can do the same thing but in much less time. But not for free, of course.
How Minnie Vans work at Walt Disney World. Using the Lyft App while on Disney World property, you’ll see a special feature for Disney Minnie Van service.
A red and white polka-dotted SUV driven by a Disney Cast Member will arrive within a few minutes to take you directly to your destination.
Minnie Vans do not leave Walt Disney World property but if you’re staying Club Level at one of the Disney World hotels, you can have Minnie Van pick you up at Orlando International Airport.
The fee is comparable to a private car service.
Minnie Vans come with 2 car seats for kids and accessible Minnie Vans available.
Minnie Vans cost more than traditional Uber and Lyft rides, but it's a premium experience.
Often they can get you closer to the entrance than other forms of transportation, you’ll listen to Disney music during your ride, and you’ll have a 6-passenger Chevy Suburban to ride in.
Traditional Uber and Lyft services are available on Disney property as well.
How to Use the Disney World Skyliner System
In 2017 Disney recognized a need to connect several hotels to 2 of its theme parks. A massive network of overhead gondolas took less than 2 years to complete.
Like the Monorail System, Skyliner uses a hub system with a centralized hub, located at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. One line travels south to Disney’s Pop Century and Art of Animation Resorts, another extends to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and the third line travels to Disney’s Riviera Resort - terminating at Epcot.
Today a guest can board Disney Skyliner at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and touch down at Epcot in about 15 to 20 minutes.
But unless you’re staying at Caribbean Beach, you’ll need to transfer to a different route at the hub.
Let’s say you’re a guest staying at Disney’s Pop Century Resort and you want to get to Epcot.
You’ll board Skyliner at your hotel, travel to Caribbean Beach Resort, and transfer to the Epcot line.
Each of the 250 gondolas can accommodate up to 10 passengers. Accessible gondolas are available and can load passengers on a separate, stationary platform if needed.
Disney Skyliner begins operating 1 hour prior to park opening and 1-2 hours after the parks close.
Disney will stop operation if thunderstorms are within 10 miles of Walt Disney World Resort. When Skyliner is not running, buses will be used until it's safe to operate Skyliner again.

Best Rooms at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort
How to request the best possible oom at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
Wondering which rooms are near the Disney Skyliner station at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort? Want to know the difference between a Standard View and a Preferred Room? Or, which rooms are closer to the pool and restaurants? In this guide, I’ll share maps of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and help you find the best room at this Walt Disney World Resort hotel.
Disney’s Caribbean Beach is a moderate category hotel, close to Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
An overhead gondola system called Disney Skyliner provides transportation to both said theme parks and it’s a terrific perk. Not only is it efficient, but it’s also fun!
One of the reasons Caribbean Beach is so convenient is that it’s home to the central hub of Disney’s Skyliner System.
Skyliner routes originate at Caribbean Beach, which means you won’t have to transfer to a different line if you’re traveling to Epcot or Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
25 individual, 2-story buildings, make up Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
They are built around a lake known as Barefoot Bay. For this reason, buildings are very spread out here.
There are no elevators at Caribbean Beach Resort, so if stairs are an issue, you should make a request for a ground-floor room above all else.
The resort provides internal shuttles and vans that will take you and your luggage to your room.
Rooms at Caribbean Beach are accessed via exterior corridors.
Rooms at the end of most corridors have an additional side window that allows for more natural light, these are known as, “corner rooms.”
Heat and air conditioning come from a built-in unit under the window. The only moderate hotel to offer central air conditioning is Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.
Rooms can accommodate up to 4-5 people. Rooms that can sleep 5 are known as 5th sleeper rooms. They come with a child-size fold-down bed that is ideal for a child up to age 9.
The main pool complex known as Fuentes del Morro is located next to Old Port Royale, the lobby and dining district of the resort.
How Disney’s Caribbean Beach is different from other Disney Moderate Resorts
Closest Moderate Category hotel to Epcot and Hollywood Studios
Home to the Skyliner hub
Some rooms can sleep 5 guests with a child-size fold-down bed
It’s the first Moderate resort ever built at Walt Disney World
There are 5 villages with the resort named after Caribbean islands:
Aruba
The majority of the rooms in Aruba are either Standard View or Water View. They sit across the lake from Old Port Royale. Some rooms and buildings are actually closer to Disney’s Riviera Resort.
Barbados
Barbados is a Preferred section because it’s close to Old Port Royale, and the walk to the Skyliner station is an acceptable distance for most. In this section, you’ll find rooms in the Preferred and Water View categories. It’s as close to being the in middle of Old Port Royale and Skyliner as possible.
Jamaica
You’ll find Standard View and Water View rooms in Jamaica. Like Aruba, this section is across the water from Old Port Royale. This should be your requested section if you prefer to be closer to the Skyliner hub.
Martinique
Martinique is primarily a Preferred section with some Water View rooms as well. It’s the closest section to Old Port Royale, but also the furthest away from the Skyliner hub.
Trinidad
Trinidad is all by itself at Caribbean Beach. While it’s in a remote location, some rooms are actually a short walk from the Skyliner hub. But Trinidad is quite far from Old Port Royale.
You cannot specifically book a room in one of these villages, but I can enter a request with your reservation.
Each village has a smaller pool nearby for convenience. They each have their own bus depot as well so it’s not necessary to walk to Old Port Royale.
When making a room request at Caribbean Beach, you have to play the game Would You Rather. The 2 most utilized features of this hotel are Old Port Royale and the Skyliner station but they are nowhere near each other.
So, would you rather be closer to the dining, lobby, and feature pool in Old Port Royale, or would you rather be closer to Skyliner?
Let’s take a look at the different room categories offered here so you make some great room requests at Caribbean Beach.
Room Categories at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
Standard View - views of parking areas or landscaping. 2 queen beds.
Standard View 5th Sleeper - views of parking areas or landscaping. 2 queen beds + 1 child-size pull-down bed.
Water or Pool View - views of the lake or a pool. 2 queen beds
Water or Pool View 5th Sleeper- views of the lake or pool. 2 queen beds + 1 child-size pull-down bed.
Preferred Rooms - close to Old Port Royale. Views of lake, pool, landscaping, or parking area. 2 queen beds or 2 queen beds + 1 child-size pull-down bed.
Best rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
Where are the Standard View Rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort?
Remember you’ll need to decide if you want to be closer to Skyliner or closer to Old Port Royale but in either case, I recommend you narrow Standard View down to the Aruba and Jamaica villages. Trinidad is just too remote.
Caribbean Beach Rooms Close to Skyliner
If you wish to be closer to Skyliner, book a Standard View room and request Jamaica, specifically buildings 41, 42, and 43.
And if you want to be closer to the lobby, feature pool and dining options, request a Standard View room in Aruba, specifically Buildings 51 and 52.
Jamaica and Aruba are across from Old Port Royale but there’s a bridge that will make the walk shoter.
Even more rooms close to Skyliner (sort of)
Buildings 54, 55, and 56 in Aruba are closer to the Skyliner station at Disney’s Riviera Resort.
These are especially convenient if you plan to be most of your time at Epcot. These rooms are quite far from Old Port Royale, however, figure about a 10-minute walk. An internal resort shuttle is an option.
If you stay in 54, 55, or 56, you can use Riviera for dining too. No, you can’t use Riviera’s pool, unfortunately, but you’re welcome to use Riviera’s transportation and restaurants.
From the Riviera Skyliner station, you’ll be able to go express to Epcot quite easily, but to visit Hollywood Studios, you’ll need to take the Skyliner to the Caribbean Beach station and transfer to the Studios line. It’s not a major inconvenience but it’s an extra step.
Caribbean Beach is the central hub for Skyliner.
Where are the Water / Pool View Rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort?
Water view rooms mean just that - either the lake or a pool. Not the feature pool, but one of the village pools.
Water View rooms are located in the same building as Standard View rooms in most cases, they are just located on the other side of the building - the side that faces water.
If you prefer to be closer to the lobby and restaurants, Building 51 in Aruba and Building 45 in Jamaica are the closest.
And if you want a short walk to the Skyliner, I recommend Buildings 42 and 43 in Jamaica and Building 34 in Trinidad.
Where are the Preferred Rooms at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort?
Preferred Rooms are located in the villages of Martinique and Barbados only. These are the closest villages to Old Port Royale where you’ll find dining and the feature pool.
Views from Preferred Rooms can be of courtyards, gardens, parking areas, lake, or pool. Disney does not specifically mention the room view in the Preferred category because the main advantage of these rooms is that they are close to Old Port Royale.
Martinique and Barbados also have their own bus depots plus there’s another one at Old Port Royale. This is convenient if you want to have breakfast and then head off the bus for the theme parks or even catch the internal shuttle to Skyliner.
The Disney Skyliner station is a 10-minute walk from these villages. Building 32 is my recommendation if you want to be closer to Disney Skyliner and Old Port Royale.
If you prefer to be closer to the feature pool and dining, I recommend Buildings 25 and 26 in Martinique and Building 31 in Barbados.

Room Requests at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort
I help my clients with room requests all the time so feel free to contact me for your next Disney World vacation. Together we can come up with the perfect room request.
Room requests have a better chance of being honored if you make them within the category you booked.
For example, if you booked a Standard View room and make a request to be near Old Port Royale, your request would have very little chance of being honored.
Preferred Rooms are located close to Old Port Royale and they cost more.
But if you request to be near Skyliner, that could easily be honored because that’s where most of the Standard View rooms are located.
Keep in mind that room requests cannot be guaranteed but Disney tries hard to honor them.

How to Save Money on Flights to Orlando International Airport (MCO)
Tips for finding cheap flights into Orlando International Airport, best days to fly, and more.
Looking to save money on flights to Orlando? In this guide, I’ll show you how to search for and book the best airfare deals to MCO.
Orlando International Airport (MCO) is the tenth busiest airport in America with 60 over carriers and it’s the 30th busiest airport in the world.
Two airlines in particular, jetBlue and Southwest have made MCO a mini-hub and both have some of the best fares in and out of Orlando International Airport.
Tips for finding cheap airfare
No matter which airline you choose to fly, spend a little time doing some research and check back frequently. Airfare to and from Orlando has been on the rise for the past 5 years but you can still find some cheap seats on your flight to MCO by taking a few simple steps.
How to search the web for airfare deals
About 95% of bookings are made online, according to FareCompare.com. Start with the airlines’ official website because it will have more flight options at similar fares.
Also, try websites that allow you to compare deals from multiple airlines. My favorite is Google Flights but also try Airfarewatchdog and FareCompare.
Cheapest days to fly to Orlando
In most cases the cheapest days to fly are Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Monday and Friday are usually the most expensive.
If you can, be flexible with your travel dates, try to shift your dates around by a day or two.
Just confirm that there is availability at your Walt Disney World Resort hotel before getting locked into to a non-refundable flight.
Split up large groups
Many people flying into Orlando International Airport are traveling as a family.
Try breaking up your family into smaller groups when shopping around.
For example, if there are only 2 cheap seats left on a flight and your search is for 4 seats, the website will give everyone the higher fare.
Try searching for one seat first, then add other members of your family to see what happens to the fares.
Hey there! Get more travel tips - follow me on social media!
The best day of the week to book a flight
Fare sales can appear anytime but I recommend signing up for fare alerts with the airlines you are shopping.
You can sign up for fare alerts on the airline’s website and customize your alert for the exact route you want to fly.
Some travel websites offer fare alerts as well.
The best time to shop for airfare is Tuesday afternoon, this has been the industry standard for the past several years.
Wednesday morning is also a good time to shop for Orlando flights.
Use Google Flights to shop for cheap flights
Use Google Flights to find the cheapest fares to/from Orlando! Google Flights searches most airlines using the power of Google.
Some airlines allow you to book a flight right through Google, others will require you to book directly on their website but it's a convenient way to search multiple airlines at once.
Check for a lower price even after you book your flight
After you book your air travel, check back to see if fares have dropped for your flight.
Jetblue will issue you a credit towards a future flight on the difference. Other airlines might have similar programs.
If you see that the cost of airfare has dropped since you booked, give the airline a call.
If your airline doesn’t offer any price protection, try calling your credit card company. Some offer travel perks which might include price guarantees.
Even more ways to save money on flights
What about airline credit cards for frequent flyer miles?
jetBlue, Southwest, and British Airways have some of the best credit card programs available.

Mears Express Service Express Service is a direct route between MCO and your Disney World hotel, typically in a van. This is similar to hiring a town car.
Mears Transportation is the leader in airport transfers between Orlando International Airport and Walt Disney World Resort. It was Mears who operated Disney’s Magical Express Service for Disney World when it began in 2005. When Disney canceled the complimentary shuttle program in 2022, Mears changed their name to Mears Connect and removed the Disney World livery from all buses.
Mears has many years of experience shuttling guests between the airport and Walt Disney World. They even bought out their competition, Sunshine Flyer, which lasted only 16 months in Orlando.
Let’s take a look at how Mears Connect operates today.
Mears Connect provides 2 airport shuttle options:
Standard (shared) Service
Express (private) Service

Terminal A: Go to Level 2 if you have checked bags and pick up your luggage. Then go up to Level 3, and cross over to the B-Side of the airport. Then go down to Level 1 and locate the Mears Welcome Center. (Just follow signs for Ground Transportation on the B-Side).

Yes, it’s customary to tip your driver for good service.

Is Mears cheaper than Uber and Lyft?
A typical ride-share service will cost about $40 - $60 each way. But this doesn’t include surge pricing in Orlando or Uber Car Seat. Both add significant costs to your fare. Read more about using ride-share services in Orlando here ▸
Mears Connect generally works out better because you won’t have to deal with car seats or wait for a car that can fit your party size.
Uber drivers have various skills. While I believe they have good intentions, some don’t know their way around Disney World property too well. I had Uber cars in Orlando that smelled unpleasant or never showed up only to cancel on me.
While a Mears shuttle might take longer than Uber, it’s a far more consistent and professional service.
How do I reserve a ride on Mears Connect?
Your Disney travel advisor can make your reservation for you. Just provide your airline and flight numbers. You can book directly on the Mears Transportation website
Mears Connect Phone Number

Easy Guide to the Walt Disney World Monorail System
Where the Disney monorails go, frequently asked questions to riding the Disney World monorails, and even a few fun facts.
Walt Disney World monorails carry 50 million passengers a year, service 3 Walt Disney World hotels, two Disney theme parks and operate on 15 miles of track.
Oh and it’s the busiest monorail system in the world! Disney World monorails are also convenient, fast and fun to ride!
Here are a few tips and frequently asked questions about using the Walt Disney World monorails.
Where do the Disney World monorails go?
The monorails begin their routes at a central terminal known as the Ticket and Transportation Center. You can get to all destinations from this station. This is also where the Magic Kingdom parking lot is located.
There are three Disney monorail lines.
Resort Monorail with service to Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.
Express Monorail offers direct service between the Ticket and Transportation Center and Magic Kingdom Park (does not stop at hotels).
Epcot Monorail offers direct service between the Ticket and Transportation Center and Epcot.
Which Disney World hotels are on the monorail?
There are three Deluxe Resorts that offer monorail service to Magic Kingdom and Epcot:
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort
Disney’s Contemporary Resort
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa
How do I get from Magic Kingdom to Epcot by monorail?
Take the Express Monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center. Here you’ll transfer to the Epcot line. There are signs directing you where to go at each station. Cast Members are also available to assist.
What are the Disney World monorail hours of operation?
The Walt Disney World Monorail System operating times vary, depending on expected crowd levels and park hours. Typically monorails will start running 30 minutes prior to the earliest park opening until one hour after the latest park closing. I would not rely on the monorails to make an early morning dining reservation, consider driving or using Uber or Lyft.
Can I bring a stroller/wheelchair/scooter on the Disney World monorails?
Yes, and in most cases, strollers do not need to be folded. This is very convenient if your little one is sleeping in the stroller! A Cast Member will assist you in boarding the monorail if you have a medical stroller, wheelchair, or scooter.
Is it free to ride the monorail?
There is no charge nor is a ticket required to ride the Walt Disney World monorails.
How often do the monorails arrive at the resort stations?
Monorails arrive every 5-8 minutes.
How long does it take to get to the Magic Kingdom by monorail?
Disney’s Contemporary Resort - about 20 minutes. Even though Disney’s Contemporary Resort is the closest hotel to Magic Kingdom, the monorail has to make a full run from this point. Consider walking to the Magic Kingdom, it takes less than 10 minutes. On your way back to the hotel, take the monorail, you’ll be the first stop.
Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort - about 10 minutes.
Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort - about 3 minutes. When leaving Magic Kingdom, consider walking back instead, it could be faster. If you board the monorail at Magic Kingdom, the Grand Floridian will be the last stop.
Which is the most convenient hotel at Walt Disney world?
Disney’s Polynesian Resort is the most convenient because you have easy access to both Magic Kingdom and Epcot by monorail. To board from Epcot monorail from Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, simply walk to the nearby Ticket and Transportation Center station. Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian are also convenient to Magic Kingdom and Epcot, but you’ll need to take the monorail to the Ticket and Transportation Center and transfer.
I’m worried about getting lost. will there be anyone to help me?
Yes, Cast Members are present at each station. Keep in mind this is not the New York City Subway System by any means. If at any time you feel lost or unsure of the route, there are Disney employees at each station who are happy to assist you. Disney does a great job with directional signage at each station. These are not commuter lines, the Walt Disney World Monorail System was built for visitors.
If you have a specific question about using the Walt Disney World monorail, feel free to contact me.

How to Use Uber / Lyft at Disney World and Universal Orlando
Frequently asked questions about using rideshares like Uber and Lyft to travel around Orlando, Florida.
Need to get to a Disney World restaurant or travel between Disney Resort hotels? Going to Orlando International Airport? How about a ride between Disney World and Universal Orlando? Uber and Lyft are widely available in Orlando and offer fast, reliable transportation.
Here are some of the most popular questions I get about using a Uber and Lyft in Orlando.
How much does it cost to go from Disney World to Universal Resort?
Fares will vary but usually around $20 - $30 each way.
Which is cheaper in Orlando? Lyft or Uber?
Lyft tends to have better rates than Uber. For example, Universal to Orlando International Airport is about $32 with Uber. Lyft is about $24.
Check both Uber and Lyft to compare rates before each ride.
How much does it cost to travel within Walt Disney World?
Average fares are about $8 - $16.
How long will I have to wait for Uber / Lyft to arrive?
Less than 10 minutes, in most cases cars come immediately.
Can you use Uber or Lyft from Orlando International Airport?
Yes, Uber and Lyft are available at Orlando Airport (MCO). Look for the “Ride App” signs on Level 2 to you guide to the pick up area.
Uber and Lyft will take you directly to your hotel where as some shuttle services stop at multiple hotels along the way.
Uber and Lyft are readily available at Disney World and Universal hotels when it’s time to go back to the airport (booo!)
Where does Uber and Lyft pick up at Universal Orlando?
Use the dedicated Uber Zone located in the Jurassic Park Garage. Uber is the official rideshare provider of Universal (Disney went with Lyft) so you’ll only see signs for Uber. But both companies pick up and drop off from this location.
If you’re visiting Volcano Bay water park, you can take a complimentary shuttle from the Uber Zone.
Can Uber and Lyft bypass the parking booths at the Orlando theme parks?
At Disney, yes, drivers will identify themselves to the parking attendant who will direct them to the drop-off area.
At Universal, drivers must use the Uber Zone drop-off center located in the Jurassic Park Garage.
Can Uber / Lyft use Disney’s Contemporary Resort for Magic Kingdom drop-off and pick-up?
Sometimes yes, but security guard may redirect your driver to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC). This is likely to happen during busy times such as holidays and RunDisney weekends.
The official policy is that drivers must use the TTC as this is the official ride-share zone for Magic Kingdom Park.
If you have a dining reservation at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, your driver will be permitted to enter the lot.
How will the driver find me?
Drivers will see your GPS location but it’s helpful to send a message with your location and a description. Communication between you and your driver is important and they appreciate short descriptions!
For example, “I’m near the bell desk at Disney’s Polynesian VIllage Resort, wearing a gray Mickey Mouse shirt and blue shorts.”
How far in advance should I request my ride?
Drivers arrive pretty quick at Walt Disney World and Universal, so request your ride when you are standing in the pick up zone.
If you are requesting a ride from Magic Kingdom Park, first take the monorail or ferry to the Ticket at Transportation Center (TTC), then request your ride. You can only be picked up at the TTC, not at the Magic Kingdom.
Another option is to walk to Disney’s Contemporary Resort and request your ride once you are there.
At the TTC, drivers are probably already queued in the waiting zone and will pull up quickly.
Are car seats available through Uber and Lyft?
Yes, with Uber you can use Uber Car Seat for an additional fee, about $10. This may increase your wait time. Lyft is still working to introduce car seats as an option in Orlando.

Walt Disney World Railroad About to Reopen
Walt Disney World Railroad Reopening
After being closed for 4 years, the Walt Disney World Resort shared today that the Walt Disney World Railroad is about to reopen, though a specific date has not been provided. The post said that the Walt Disney World Railroad will reopen “this holiday season” so that could even mean today!
Not only did the Walt Disney World Railroad undergo track updates and maintenance, but Walt Disney Imagineering also created an all-new voice narration to bring guests into the beloved stories they encounter as they travel from one magical land to the next.
“A new conductor has assumed the role, carrying on the long tradition of warm welcomes and amusing anecdotes while adding fresh commentary and story to the journey.”

TIPS FOR RENTING A CAR IN ORLANDO
How to save money on car rentals in Orlando. Driving directions to Walt Disney World from the Orlando International. How to handle tolls in Florida with a rental car.
Orlando International Airport is home to the largest rental car market in the world. Renting a car at the airport is often cheaper than renting from an off-airport location.
Rates are highly competitive compared to other cities, so you definitely want to shop around.
A good price for a standard car is about $30 per day but you might be able to do even better. Fun Fact: it usually costs less to rent a car than a stroller at Walt Disney World!
Renting a car saves time getting around Walt Disney World.
Disney transportation is a reliable way to get around Disney, but think of it as public transportation: it will get you there, just not as fast as your own car.
Renting a car also allows you to go between hotels, something Disney transport does not offer.
Often guests need to travel between hotels for dining reservations.
Tip! Book your rental car several weeks in advance but check back often, especially 5 weeks prior to your arrival.
Fare wars are common among rental companies at Orlando International but they can actually increase too, like when a convention comes to town or if it's a holiday weekend.
Avoid pre-pay discounts, if rates go down, you won't be able to rebook!
RENTAL CARS AND FLORIDA TOLLS
Most major rental car companies now offer their customers the option of automatically billing tolls to the credit card they used to rent the vehicle.
You can use the SunPass lanes on 417 (my recommended route) and other toll roads in Florida.
Some rental companies offer SunPass rentals, usually free of charge, other charge an additional fee.
GETTING TO DISNEY FROM ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
There are two main routes you can take: Route 417 or I-4. Avoid I-4, the stretch between the airport and the theme parks is always heavily congested. 417 has a few inexpensive tolls.
To take 417, follow signs for the South Exit of the airport. Then, simply stay on 417 to either exit 6 or 3, depending on where your hotel is located.
Signs on 417 will tell you which exit to take based on theme park and/or resort hotel.
Walt Disney World is about 20 minutes from Orlando International.
When going back to the airport, follow signs in Walt Disney World for Osceola Parkway.
Once on the parkway, follow signs to Route 417 towards the airport. If you follow the airport signs in Walt Disney World, most of them will take you on I-4 which you want to avoid.
Costco Wholesale has consistently offered some of the best rental car rates in Orlando.
They contract exclusively with Alamo, Avis, Enterprise and Budget. Costco's rates usually beat special offers found on the rental agency's official website and the travel websites like Expedia.
A Costco membership starts at $55 but you don't need to be a member to view rates.
If you're not a member, check to see how much you'd save, the savings might actually pay for your membership.
BJ's Wholesale Club is also a good place to check for rental car discounts, though we have found that Costco rates are usually better. A BJ's membership is $50 per year.
BOOKing DIRECT FROM THE RENTAL CAR COMPANIES
This option will almost always cost more than if you book through a third-party unless you have credit card points or other perks to use, this could be a good option.
Alamo Rent A Car is the official rental car agency for Disney with two offices located right on Disney World property.
Offices are located at the Walt Disney World Car Care Center near Disney's Polynesian Village Resort.
Another office is located at the Walt Disney World Dolphin, near Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts and Epcot.
Alamo operates free shuttles that service the Walt Disney World hotels. If you need to be picked up, or if you’re dropping your car off, you can get a ride!
Check Alamo rates through Costco, they are usually very good.
Alamo has recently reduced the number of online offer codes, opting to post discounts on its Alamo Insiders Club website. Membership to Alamo Insiders Club is free.
A great feature that Alamo offers is pre-arrival check in. You can complete all the rental car paperwork online, in advance.
All you need to do at the airport is walk over to the garage, choose a vehicle, then stop drive through window to check out.
Super fast and convenient - plus it's nice to be able to choose your own car. Avis offers a similar program.
Enterprise Rent-A-Car is located inside the Orlando International Airport and have a reputation for renting new, high-quality vehicles.
The checkout process is painfully slow compared to the other rental agencies but they offer some of the best customer service in the rental car market.
Someone is going to help you locate your vehicle and go over all its features with you.
Sure it's great service, but not ideal if you just want to get your car and hit the road.
Budget Rent A Car is located at Orlando International Airport with an additional office at the DoubleTree Hotel - Walt Disney World, 2305 Hotel Plaza Blvd, Orlando, FL (just outside of Disney Springs).
Cars tend to be slightly older with higher miles and have a reputation for having poor customer service.
E-Z Car Rental is a smaller company but offers competitive rates.
They are located on airport property - no shuttle bus is required. They are pretty good about offering upgrades at a discounted rate.
Just ask at time of check in. The issue with E-Z is that it's a slow process to rent a car once you arrive at the airport.
First you need to check in at the desk inside the airport. They will spend a lot of time typing on the computer while you stand there and wait.
Then, you walk outside to the garage and stop and another desk for your keys. If they are busy, this can take a long time.
Many consider Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort the best hotel at Disney World. Here’s why.
