Disney Cruise Line: 2024 Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime Cruises Coming Soon

Disney Cruise Line Late 2024 Sailings Announced

Disney Cruise Line just announced that 2024 Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime Cruises are coming soon.

We had a chance to experience Halloween on the High Seas on the Disney Wish last year and it was one of the best cruises we’ve been on. From Halloween parties to the decorations, it was a great way to enhance our Disney cruise. I highly recommend it.

Disney Wish: Halloween on the High Seas

Also announced are some rare itineraries to Hawaii and the South Pacific and more opportunities to visit Disney’s newest island Lighthouse Point.

When to book

Bookings open to the public on June 26, 2023. Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club and select other groups may take advantage of the following extended early booking windows:

  • Pearl Castaway Club Members: Monday, June 19, 2023

  • Platinum Castaway Club Members, Golden Oak and Club 33 Members: Tuesday, June 20, 2023

  • Gold Castaway Club Members: Wednesday, June 21, 2023

  • Silver Castaway Club Members, Disney Vacation Club and Adventure Insiders: Thursday, June 22, 2023

  • Bookings open to all Guests: Monday, June 26, 2023

Special Disney Cruise Line Sailings to Hawaii and the South Pacific

In addition to the festive-themed sailings, Disney Cruise Line guests can experience bucket-list itineraries in late 2024.

The Disney Wonder will sail from Vancouver, Canada, to Honolulu, Hawaii, in late September with stops on the islands of Kauai, Maui and Hawaii before arriving in Oahu.

From Hawaii, the Disney Wonder will embark on a transpacific voyage to Sydney, Australia, that will take families through the South Pacific to visit once-in-a-lifetime destinations such as Fiji, American Samoa and New Caledonia.

Disney Cruise Line will then set sail on its second season of vacations from Australia and New Zealand, bringing the magic of Disney close to home for local families in the region.

Thank you so much for being so patient with us. We had a great first cruise. Your advice was spot on especially with the dining package.

MagicBand+ Coming to Disney Cruise Line as "DisneyBand+"

Disney Cruise Line announced it will be introducing “DisneyBand+” this summer starting with the Disney Wish.

Disney Cruise Line announced it will be introducing “DisneyBand+” this summer starting with the Disney Wish. DisneyBand+ is a wearable wristband, similar to MagicBand and MagicBand+ currently available at Disney’s U.S. theme parks.

DisneyBand+ will have functionality at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort, just be sure to link the band to your Disney account.

DisneyBand+ does everything your complimentary Key to the World card does but with a little more style (and maybe a surprise or two).

Solid bands cost $34.99, and themed designs cost $44.99, plus tax. Shipping is included at no extra charge. DisneyBand+ cannot be shipped outside of the United States.

What you can do with DisneyBand+

  • Stateroom entry

  • Charging purchases to the payment card in your stateroom folio

  • Linking photos to your shipboard account (photos must be separately purchased).

  • Also works as an Oceaneer Band for kids age 12 and under.

DisneyBand+ requires charging if you want it to light up at select events onboard and the battery must be sufficiently charged to receive photos.

Bands should be charged overnight and charged every six months to maintain a healthy battery.

→ Check out these Agency Exclusive Cruise Deals from Magical Vacations Travel (you won’t find them anywhere else!)

Fortunately, the Disney Wish has plenty of USB ports near the bed and by the desk. If you have multiple devices that need overnight charging you can bring a USB charging hub (but not a powerstrip!).

Remember to pack your DisneyBand+ charger!

Disney will be testing DisneyBand+ on the Disney Wish this summer and it will be rolled out on other Disney Cruise Line ships at a later date.

Thank you so much for being so patient with us. We had a great first cruise. Your advice was spot on especially with the dining package.

What's the Difference Between Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean?

Disney Cruise Line vs. Royal Caribbean

Both Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean dominate the market for family-friendly cruise vacations and they both deliver a premium family vacation experience unlike any of the other cruise lines out there.

They both have private islands in the Bahamas. Most Bhamaian and Caribbean cruises include a stop at their respective island. Disney’s Castaway Cay is more tranquil and natural while Royal’s is more of a destination with restaurants, pools, water slides and of course, beaches.

People often ask me, which cruise line is better, Disney or Royal Caribbean? But it’s not about who is better, that’s too subjective. It’s about booking the vacation experience that appeals to you most.

Let me explain. There are basically 3 categories of cruises:

  1. The inexpensive party cruises - popular with college kids.

  2. Destination-rich cruises - popular with those enjoying their golden years.

  3. Family-focused cruising - ships packed with exciting onboard activities.

Both Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean are obviously family-focused.

But they also attract a number of active adults who want to be somewhere between college kids having a blast and a boatload of retirees who enjoy quietly reading at the pool.

Disney Cruise Line | Disney Wish Lobby

Disney Wish | Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line is perfect for those with children ages 4 to 10.

But I would argue that Disney cruises are also ideal for Disney fans of all ages. Onboard experiences are centered around meeting Disney characters and Disney-themed shows.

Spaces onboard Disney cruise ships are highly themed environments, just like the theme parks. For example, on the Disney Wish, you’ll dine in the royal banquet hall of Arendelle from Disney’s Frozen film, or enjoy a drink in a Star Wars lounge that’s truly out-of-this-world (pun intended).

HyperSpace Lounge on Disney WIsh

Star Wars HyperSpace Lounge onboard the Disney Wish

The newer Disney ships have water coasters that circle the top deck along with pools and Disney movies that play all day on a giant movie screen called Funnel Vision.

AquaDuck Water Coaster on the Disney Fantasy

AquaDuck water coaster onboard the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. The Disney Wish has a similar attraction.

Disney Cruise Line offers a very high level of service and attention to detail, even when going though the booking process.

One of the best features about DCL is that many standard staterooms can accommodate 4 to 5 guests. This is not the case with most other cruise lines. But Royal Caribbean offers plenty of connecting stateroom options for families.

While Disney Cruise Line is on the higher end of cruise fares, I think you will feel that you definitely feel that you got what you paid for.

If you have tweens or teens that are indifferent to Disney, Star Wars or Marvel, then I recommend Royal Caribbean.

Royal Caribbean

Wonder of the Seas, an Oasis Class Ship, is the largest cruise ship in the world | Royal Caribbean

Royal Caribbean is the largest cruise line in the world and offers ships that are designed specifically with family vacations in mind.

Royal specializes in variety. Ships are expertly designed to offer something for the entire family.

This is especially true on the Oasis Class ships, the largest cruise ships in the world.

Some Royal Caribbean ships offer things like zip lines across the top deck, pools, rock climbing walls, water slides, ice skating (on real ice - in a real rink!), laser-tag courses, escape room challenges, bumper cars, specialty restaurants like a hibachi steakhouse, wellness spas, lounges, and casinos.

Royal Caribbean Studio B Ice Skating

Many Royal Caribbean ships offer onboard ice skating and ice skating performances

There are so many reasons to get excited about a Royal Caribbean cruise.

Royal Caribbean’s ships are loaded from bow to stern with game-changing thrills but also offer theater shows, live entertainment, as well as next-level dining, and a high level of service. See Royal Caribbean my tips ▸

Both Disney and Royal Caribbean offer a premium vacation experience with first-class activities and service.

They both dominate the Florida cruise market, departing from Port Canaveral (Orlando) and Miami but they each offer international itineraries too.

For example, Disney and Royal Caribbean sail to Alaska, the Mediterranean, Asia, and Mexico.

Things to do in Nassau, Bahamas Without Booking an Excursion

Did you know you can explore Nassau, Bahamas on your cruise without an excursion?

Did you know you can explore Nassau, Bahamas on your cruise without an excursion? While there are a number of things to do like chilling at the beaches, exploring Nassau’s historical sites, renting a jet-ski or visiting the Atlantis Resort, you can have a great day just walking around the port area on your own, without an excursion.

Both Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean almost always include a day at Nassau on their 3 and 4 night itineraries from Florida.

See more about cruising from Florida here ▸

Liberty of the Seas in Nassau, Bahamas

Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas (center) and Freedom of the Seas (right) are twins - both part of the Freedom Class.

It’s perfectly ok to get off the ship for a couple of hours, walk around the port, then go back to the ship for lunch and enjoy the pool with lower crowds.

Fun fact! Nassau was Royal Caribbean’s very first port over 50 years ago.

As soon as you leave the pier (and make your way through a few offers for a taxi ride) you’ll be in Nassau’s touristy shopping district. But that’s ok, you’re a tourist!

There are a number of t-shirt and souvenir shops, jewelry stores, bars and restaurants, an outdoor flea market and even places to get your hair braided - all within a short walk from your cruise ship.

A busy day in Nassau, Bahamas. The Disney Dream is pictured center and Anthem of the Seas, a Royal Caribbean Oasis Class ship is on the far left.

Straw Market - Nassau

A 5 minute walk from the pier on Bay Street, you’ll find Nassau’s world-famous Straw Market.

Straw Market Nassau

The Straw Market - Nassau, Bahamas

Now, I don’t know how “world famous” it is but it’s home to local, handmade Bahamian crafts, souvenirs, and items such as hand-woven straw hats, bags, mats, dolls, conch shell jewelry, and wood carvings.

It’s also a great place to try your negotiating skills - it’s even expected. Most of the vendors inside will accept US currency and or credit cards.

The Straw Market is a 5 minute walk from the cruise port, right on Bay Street.

Inside the straw market - nassau bahamas

The Straw Market has t-shirts and apparel, but my favorite items are the wood carvings, sea shell crafts and other items made by the locals.

Before you commit to buying something, I recommend that you first walk the entire market so you can get a sense of what they offer here.

Shopping on Bay Street - Things to do in Nassau

Bay Street is a block over from the cruise port and lined with touristy shops. I like it because it’s not too far from the ship. Remember that it is a foreign country and a poor one at that. So, it’s best to stay in the well-traveled, touristy areas.

bay street nassau, bahamas

Bay Street on Nassau

Stores on one side of the street tend to be focused on inexpensive t-shirts and souvenirs while the opposite side tends to have more jewelry.

The stores have the same type of merchandise, for the most part, but there’s enough variety to make each one interesting.

Prices vary widely from place to place too so don’t from the first store you visit. Shop around a little.

Christ Church Anglican Cathedral - Things to do in Nassau

This Anglican church is over 100 years old and remarkably beautiful. It’s actually quite small even though it’s called a cathedral but Queen Elizabeth and Prince Harry have visited here over the years.

This isn’t a tourist destination necessarily and that’s exactly why I like it. In the midst of the t-shirt district, you come across a local church, beautifully maintained.

You are free to go inside, sit down, and just reflect for a moment or two.

Christ Church Anglican Cathedral is a nice break from the touristy things in the area

The church is about a 10 minute walk from the cruise port and just a few blocks up from the Straw Market and Bay Street shops.

Pirates of Nassau Museum - Things to do in Nassau

I found Pirates of Nassau by accident just walking around randomly with my son and although I was hesitant to walk in - he begged me to go inside.

pirates of nassau museum

Pirates of Nassau - Nassau, Bahamas

I pictured some disappointing tourist trap inside but it’s an excellent museum - one might say a real treasure here in Nassau!

This museum is one of my most recommended activities in Nassau while exploring on your own.

pirates of nassau museum

Pirates of Nassau - Nassau, Bahamas

Pirates were a very real part of the Bahamas including the notorious pirates you probably heard about like Black Beard.

And while they were a rough bunch, they were absolutely adored by people all over the world (except the British Navy).

inside the pirates-of-nassau museum

Pirates of Nassau - Nassau, Bahamas

At this museum you’ll experience pirate life in a realistic setting, one that rivals Pirates of the Caribbean at Walt Disney World.

Admission is $13.50 for adults, kids ages 4-17 pay $6.75. It takes about 30 minutes to see the entire museum and it’s self-guided.

You can walk to the museum in under 10 minutes along the shops on Bay Street. It’s also right across the street from the Christ Church Anglican Cathedral.

So, is it worth getting off the ship in Nassau? Yes! I think it’s worth getting off the ship even if you prefer to skip the excursions (aka port adventures). Exploring on your own is a great way to spend the morning. But also take advantage of lower crowds onboard the ship.

Your day in Nassau is also a great time to enjoy the water slides or other activities onboard with fewer people.

If you prefer to book an excursion at Nassau, I personally only recommend Paradise Island (Atlantis Resort). I also recommend booking this with your cruise line as they often include transportation. It’s always best to book port adventures directly with your cruise line because they vet the tour companies and they are also responsible for you.

I’m often asked, do I need a passport for a cruise to the Bahamas?

No. Although I recommend a passport just in case, you do not need to show any form of government ID in the Bahamas. A birth certificate is sufficient when you reenter the United States.

But, if you have an emergency and need to fly home from Nassau, you will need a passport to board a plane. Passports can be obtained in about 8-10 weeks, so if you have time, it’s worth getting.

Will I Get Seasick on a Cruise?

All first-time cruisers are worried about seasickness. I know where the concern comes from and I have answers.

One of the most common questions first-time cruisers have is “What if I get seasick on my cruise?” As someone who avoided going on a cruise vacation for this very reason, I understand where the concern comes from, and I have answers.

In this article:

  • Why you probably won’t get seasick at all

  • How to prevent seasickness

  • Professional advice in case it happens

Will I get seasick on a cruise?

Symphony of the Seas | Royal Caribbean

Why you probably won’t get seasick at all

Ships today sail with thousands of passengers onboard, most are not hearty seafaring people that can take whatever the sea throws at them. Cruising wouldn’t be as popular if getting seasick was a common occurrence.

The cruise lines know this too. They want you to be loyal customers and to return for future cruise vacations.

Newer ships are built for passenger comfort and safety above all. They use innovative design and engineering technology that helps keep the ship steady, like stabilizers and sophisticated weather technology.

Symphony of the Seas compared to Titanic

The sheer size of cruise ships today means that you’re not going to be bobbing around like a cork in the ocean. Cruise ships are floating cities, it takes a lot to move them.

Most of the time, I don’t even know the ship is moving unless I look out a window.

I like to use the water glass test - something I came up with while onboard, it’s the teacher in me.

While at dinner look at your glass of water. If the ship is rocking, you will see the water in your glass swaying back and forth, because water always tries to remain level. I have yet to see the water move, on any cruise I’ve been on.

How to prevent seasickness

Sometimes the best treatment is prevention.

Avoid excessive alcohol and overeating. Avoid reading small print as well. The only time I started to feel a little seasickness coming on was while I was trying to read a book. I put the book down and felt better right away.

“It’s best that guests who know they are prone to seasickness consult their doctor prior to departure,” says Dr. Shore, Chief Medical Advisor at Royal Caribbean.

If your personal physician thinks it’s appropriate, he or she can prescribe a patch that you can wear to prevent the onset of seasickness.

As a travel professional, I recommend a Bahamas cruise for your first journey out there. Waters between the coast of Florida and the Bahamas are known to be very calm. This is why cruising in the area is so popular.

Most Bahamian cruises are 3 or 4 nights, so it’s just the right amount of time to earn your sea legs.

What to do if you get seasick on your cruise

In the event that seasickness does develop, it’s unlikely to really interrupt your cruise.

Dr. Shore notes that there are lots of natural remedies that can help alleviate motion sickness.

“Anecdotally, ginger ale seems to be helpful, and some people find various aromas (like chamomile and peppermint) or eating dry crackers, even after the onset of seasickness, can help.”

If a few sips of ginger ale don’t do the trick, he also suggests going for a short walk to the center of the ship, the most balanced area onboard and therefore least likely to produce seasickness symptoms.

For this same reason, I recommend booking a midship room on a lower deck.

Cruise ships have motion sickness medications, like meclizine, readily available at the ship’s Medical Center.

“Additionally, for more troublesome seasickness, Royal Caribbean’s Medical Centers also carry promethazine and metoclopramide,” Dr. Shore says.

My Top Things to Do at Disney’s Castaway Cay Island

Tips for visiting Disney’s Castaway Cay Island in the Bahamas

Disney Castaway Cay is a private island in the Bahamas with signature Disney service. Everything needed for the perfect beach getaway is here—from lounge chairs and beach umbrellas to tasty food and family-friendly recreation and entertainment.

Disney's Castaway Cay Island - Things to Do

Most Caribbean and Bahamas cruises with Disney include a stop at Castaway Cay

The ship arrives at the Castayway Cay at sunrise and passengers are usually allowed to disembark around 8 am. Typically guests are back onboard around 4 pm. Your cruise director will advise you on the exact times the night before, or check the Navigator App.

Complimentary shuttles will take you around the island but you can walk as well. Walking to Family Beach takes about 20 minutes. Shuttles come frequently and are usually faster than walking, even if the line is long.

I recommend taking the shuttle to other areas of the Castaway such as Serenity Bay.

The first stop is for Castaway Family Beach, Cookie’s BBQ, snorkeling and the bar. The second stop is where you transfer to the adult only beach, Serenity Bay, bike rentals, Cookie’s Too BBQ and the 5K trail.

Top Things to Do on Disney’s Castaway Cay

On Castaway Cay you’ll find an island completely outfitted for premium family leisure.

Amenities include

  • White-sand beaches

  • Sparkling lagoons teeming with curious sea life

  • Family-friendly water play areas

  • A scenic walking trail and 5K running trail

  • Observation tower

  • 2 all you care to enjoy BBQ pavilions

  • 2 shops featuring Castaway Cay gifts and souvenirs

  • Free transportation around the island

  • Surprise Disney character appearances

Castaway Family Beach

Find your place in the sun at Family Beach. Here you paddle a kayak, or go swimming and snorkeling in the blue lagoon. You can book snorkeling on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app or onboard the ship.

Family Beach on Castaway Cay

With your family in mind, Disney provides a host of recreational activities, like volleyball and basketball.

Children can enjoy supervised games at the fanciful In Da Shade Game Pavilion.

Snorkeling Lagoon

I have never been snorkeling except as a kid in our pool, but trying it out on Castaway was a blast! This is one of my top recommended activities on the island, especially if you’ve never been snorkeling before.

First, you’ll be enchanted by the undersea realm of marine life off Castaway Family Beach. It’s amazing to see what’s going on down there.

Family Beach on Castaway Cay Island

Family Beach on Disney’s Castaway cay Island.

If you’re beginner, follow the Discover Trail, a recommended route that allows you to get comfy with the snorkeling gear. You’ll catch on quickly. Then I highly recommend doing the more advanced route, Explorer Trail. Keep an eye out for the hidden Mickey!

Serenity Bay

Whenever I see the sign for Serenity Bay on the island, I think of that episode of Seinfeld where shouting, “serenity now!” was supposed to instantly relieve feelings of stress.

Serenity Bay is for adults only, but this is not a clothing-optional beach.

But on Disney’s Castaway Cay, it has a very different meaning. Serenity Bay is a secluded oasis on the island reserved exclusively for adults age 18+.

Treat yourself to such offerings as an open-air cabana massage under the swaying palm trees (yes, it’s really like that), or frozen specialty drinks at the Castaway Air Bar.

Pelican Plunge

Pelican Plunge at Castaway Cay

Pelican Plunge at Castaway Cay

This floating platform has 2 water slides that empty right into the lagoon. Get soaked by the giant "bucket dump" that sprays hundreds of gallons of water on eagerly awaiting kiddos beneath. Children must be 38” to ride the water slide.

Bike Rentals

My favorite a to it’s is to rent bikes on Castway Cay. The cost is nominal compared to some of the other adventures on the island at $12 per hour and there are some great things to see including an airplane runway and an observation tower that you can actually climb. And when was the last time you got to ride a bike down a runway??

Castaway Cay Bike Rentals

Bike rentals can be found at the second tram stop on Castaway Cay.

One hour is just the right amount of time. You’ll find the rental office located at the second tram stop, or you can walk from Castaway Family Beach.

Teen Hideout

Teen Hideout is just what it’s named for: a place where teens 14 to17 years of age can lounge—carefree—in their very own slice of paradise.

In Da Shade Game Pavilion

In Da Shade game pavilion.

Take a break from the sun to play games, such as table tennis, foosball, billiards and basketball inside this shaded pavilion, located near Castaway Family Beach.

View from the observation tower on Disney's Castaway Cay

View from the observation tower.

Castaway Cay 5K

Here’s a little secret. There’s an unadvertised 5K (3.1 miles) running trail but walking and biking are fine too. You’ll pass through a secluded part of the island surrounded by lush mangroves and even across the runway.

Want another secret? Finishers receive an exclusive Disney Castaway Cay 5K medal, just stop at the bicycle rental booth to pick up your complimentary medal. It’s based on the honor system.

I recommend running first thing in the morning to avoid the heat. Plan to be off the ship as soon possible. I’ll usually run the 5k, then head back to the ship to get dressed and have breakfast, and then go back out to the beach.

Be sure to check the runDisney website for official running events on Castaway Cay too.

Water Activity Rentals

Boat Rentals

Set sail in the boat of your choice and embark on a breezy excursion atop the crystal-blue waters of Castaway Cay. Choose a sleek 1-person sea kayak, a charming 4-person paddleboat, a fun 2-person aqua trike or an active stand-up paddleboard for your water adventure!

Gil's Fins and Boats

Rent snorkel gear for all family members, along with kayaks, paddleboats, aqua trikes and other water equipment for your day as a marine adventurer.

Flippers & Floats

Rent inner tubes, snorkel masks and fins from this festive location.

Discover the Magic of Disney Parks on a Disney Treasure Cruise

Here's a first look at some of the secrets inspired by the Disney Theme Parks that Disney Imagineers are incorporating into the Disney Treasure.

Disney Cruise Line recently announced secrets about its latest ship, Disney Treasure. We learned that, for the first time ever, there will be several Disney Parks-inspired venues onboard the ship.

Uncover the magic of Disney with Treasure Secrets! Discover hidden gems and insider tips in this ultimate guide.

For example, The Periscope Pub, inspired by Walt Disney’s 1954 film and the legacy Disney Parks attraction, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,”

And the Skipper Society will draw on Jungle Cruise attractions from around the world.

Here's a first look at some of the secrets inspired by the Disney Theme Parks that Disney Imagineers are incorporating into the Disney Treasure.

#10 The Epcot Suite | Disney Treasure Secrets

Imagineers will place a special sculpture at the base of the Tomorrow Tower Suite’s spiral staircase that honors the iconic Epcot landmark, Spaceship Earth. The sculpture will bring the spirit of Epcot to life when guests enter the suite through music and lighting effects.

I wonder if it will have the burning wood smell from the Rome scene in the ride. I can only hope.

Epcot Suite on the Disney Treasure

Disney Treasure Epcot-themed suite.

#9 Figment References | Disney Treasure Secrets

Epcot's Figment is the adorable purple dragon who first debuted at the Journey Into Imagination of course. In the Tomorrow Tower Suite, guests will encounter Figment posing in various hiding places.

Disney Treasure Secret #8 (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Reference)

The Periscope Pub will offer a delicious menu of light bites, undersea-inspired drinks, and craft brews, including three exclusive tap beers that will be uniquely themed to the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea film.

periscope pub will have references to 20,000 leagues under the sea

Periscope Pub on the Disney Treasure

#7 Disney GPS Coordinate Easter Eggs | Disney Treasure Secrets

Take a look at the image above, specifically the submarine pressure gauge behind the bar. Disney Imagineers will include numbers on it that will honor the geographical coordinates of the Meyer Werft shipyard where the Disney Treasure was built and the official hull numbers of each ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

The Disney Wish has something similar. When Funnel Vision isn’t being used, a screensaver comes on that displays several round nautical compasses and gauges. You’ll see a series of coordinates on the gauges for the Meyer Werft Shipyard, the Dinsey Cruise Line headquarters in Celebration, FL, and more.

Disney Wish - Funnel Vision Screen

The screensaver on Funnel Vision has hidden references to Disney Cruise Line.

#6 Even More 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea References | Disney Treasure Secrets

Throughout the Periscope Pub, you’ll discover various artifacts, drawings, and books used by Captain Nemo and his brave crew during undersea explorations on the Nautilus.

Thank you so much for being so patient with us. We had a great first cruise. Your advice was spot on especially with the dining package.
— Wendy D. New Brunswick, New Jersey

#5 Jungle Cruise References | Disney Treasure Secrets

Skipper Society will have a jungle boat name of its own! Imagineers will dub the vessel housing the bar “Ems Empress” after the Ems River where the Disney Treasure will make her first voyage to sea.

After a Disney ship is completed, it sails down the Ems River to open waters. The Ems River is located in Northwestern Germany.

The conveyance to open waters takes about 10 hours.

An “Ems Empress” sign will hang proudly inside the venue when the Disney Treasure sets sail in December 2024.

Disney Wish on the Ems River in Germany

#4 Jungle Cruise Audio Easter Eggs | Disney Treasure Secrets

While sipping cocktails the Skipper Society, you’ll hear familiar music playing in the venue, including spiels from the Jungle Cruise attractions around the world!

That means you’ll hear Skipper voices from across the globe and in various languages such as English, Dutch, French, Cantonese, and more.

I hope we get to see the backside of water.

#3 Jungle Cruise Color Palette Carries Over to Treasure | Disney Treasure Secrets

The walls inside the Skipper Society will be painted using the same red and green tones as the Jungle Cruise sign at Walt Disney World.

#2 Jungle Cruise Easter Eggs and Backside of Water | Disney Treasure Secrets

You may notice the vintage-style luggage stacked neatly behind the bar at Skipper Society featured in the artist's rendering of the venue.

Each suitcase will be plastered with travel stickers that represent locations depicted inside the Jungle Cruise attraction.

There will even be a travel sticker for the backside of water!

Disney Treasure will have a Skipper Society Lounge inspired by The Jungle Cruise attraction at Walt Disney World and more.

Skipper Society on the Disney Treasure

#1 Orginal Plants Used from Jungle Cruise | Disney Treasure Secrets

We can’t forget about the Disneyland version of Jungle Cruise, it’s OG after all.

The variety of plants growing around Jungle Cruise in California gives guests the sense that they are sailing in waterways around the globe.

In honor of the original attraction, the plants throughout the Skipper Society on the Disney Treasure will be the same foliage species thriving in Disneyland.

Save Now, Sail Later with Disney Cruise Line in Early 2024

Disney Cruise Line Returns to Picture-Perfect Tropical Destinations in Early 2024.

Disney Cruise Line is about to release early 2024 itineraries to the Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.

Voyages will be from Florida (Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale), Galveston, and New Orleans, and San Diego.

Why book a 2024 cruise now?

I always say that the best way to save on a cruise is to book as far in advance as possible. As stateroom inventory goes down, fares go up and it happens quickly.

Experienced cruisers wait for these announcements and it’s why Disney Cruise Line loyalty club members have early booking perks, ahead of the general public.

Bookings open to the general public on Dec. 15, 2022.

Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club members may take advantage of the following extended early booking windows:

  • Platinum Castaway Club Members: Monday, Dec. 12, 2022

  • Gold Castaway Club Members: Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022

  • Silver Castaway Club Members, Disney Vacation Club Members: Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022

Early 2024 Disney Cruise Line Itineraries

The Disney Dream will begin early 2024 with an assortment of three- and four-night getaways to the Bahamas and five-night vacations to the western Caribbean.

All sailings from Florida will include a stop at Castaway Cay.

Caribbean Adventures from Texas and Louisiana

The Disney Magic will embark on Caribbean adventures ranging in length from four to six nights through the end of January.

Upon returning for another month-long stint between March and April, the ship will sail cruises ranging from four to seven nights to the western Caribbean during the popular spring break period.

New Orleans will welcome the Disney Magic back for a second consecutive year in February 2024 with four-, five- and seven-night cruises to the Caribbean.

Mexican Escapes from California

After returning from its inaugural season in Australia and New Zealand, the Disney Wonder will arrive in San Diego, California in March 2024 for three- to seven-night voyages to Mexico, including the Baja peninsula.

What Happens if you Test Positive for COVID-19 Prior to your Disney Cruise?

Changes to Disney Cruise Line Flexible Refund Policy

Disney Cruise Line has made a change to its COVID-19 cancellation policy.

For sailings booked on or after Dec. 9, 2022, those who test positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of their sail date can receive a refund in their original form of payment without Disney-imposed cancellation fees or apply their cruise fare toward a future cruise credit.

This replaces the current cancellation policy of 14-days prior to the sailing date.

Travel insurance and cancellation fees imposed by third-party suppliers, including airlines, are not refundable.

As a reminder, Disney Cruise Line no longer requires a COVID-19 test, regardless of vaccination status prior to sailing.

Guests who booked their reservation before Dec. 9, 2022 can view information about the Flexible Refund Policy here.

My Top 10 Tips for the Disney Wish

Planning on a Disney Wish vacation? Here are 1o tips that will help you get more out of your cruise.

The Disney Wish is Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, sailing from Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida. On my last trip, I created a list of helpful tips that will enhance your experience onboard the ship.

disney wish

Disney Wish

#10 Arrive before the scheduled arrival time.

If you’re driving, arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled port arrival time. There are a lot of cars waiting to drop off their luggage and park in the garage.

It’s important to point out that you shouldn’t arrive too early, you will not be able to check in until your confirmed arrival time.

#9 Learn the elevator system

The Disney Wish is wonderful, but something went askew when they were designing the elevators on this ship.

Only some of the elevators go beyond Deck 11, they’re marked with a sign over the door so you know how high the elevator goes, so watch for those.

disney wish elevators | disney cruise line

Unfortunately, there’s no way to specifically call the elevators that go beyond Deck 11.

More than likely one of the elevators that don’t go above Deck 11 will come simply because there are more of them.

You’ll have to wait for the elevator doors to close, press the call button again and keep repeating this process until the right elevator arrives.

disney wish elevator - interior

The elevators are narrow, and there are no windows. It reminds me of The Haunted Mansion, “This chamber has no windows and no doors…”

#8 No dinner buffet

Buffets on cruises go together like tacos and Tuesday but you may be surprised to learn that the Disney Wish Doesn’t offer a dinner buffet.

I actually like this because it changes the perception that cruises are all about conga lines and buffet meals.

Marceline Marketplace is open for breakfast and lunch but for dinner service, you’ll need to visit one of the excellent rotational restaurants such as Arendelle: a Frozen Dining Adventure, Worlds of Marvel, 1923, room service, or visit Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods.

Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods is the quick-service restaurant on the Disney Wish, conveniently located near the pool.

It’s similar to a buffet because there are so many options ranging from authentic barbecue, burgers, hotdogs, chicken tenders (of course), macaroni and cheese (of course), surprisingly good thin-crust pizza, and a comprehensive taco/burrito station.

“Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods” is included with your cruise fare, as is most dining on the Disney Wish.

I do recommend the rotational dining rooms, but if you’re not in the mood for a sit-down dinner, this is a great alternative.

On our cruise, we were having so much watching the movie Lilo and Stich on the pool deck that we decided to skip the formal dinner and just sample foods from the quick service options in our swimsuits.

We had the entire deck to ourselves that night and it ended up being one of our favorite experiences of the whole cruise. Those unexpected moments you have on vacation end up being the most fun.

#7 Buy your souvenirs on Day 1 or 2

On the first night, I stopped at the logo store to look for a Disney Wish t-shirt.

I saw a lot of great options but wasn’t ready to commit to any one item at that moment.

Disney Wish merchandise

Disney Wish chocolate bars!

On Day 3 of the cruise, I returned to the store but most of the things I wanted were sold out, or not my size. Shops onboard have limited quantities of merchandise for each sailing so they regulate how much they put out for sale.

You can own a piece of the steel used to build the Disney Wish.

On Royal Caribbean, it’s best to wait until the last night of your cruise to buy merchandise because the logo store will likely have a big sale, especially on t-shirts. Not so with Disney Cruise Line!

Disney Wish and Disney Cruise Line logo t-shirts

#6 Visit Hyperspace Lounge on Day 1

Hyperspace Lounge is the coveted Star Wars-themed bar onboard the Disney Wish.

Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge on the Disney Wish

It’s the one thing that everyone wants to see, so naturally, Disney Imagineers made it very small and with limited seating. Although I will give them credit for making it an intimate space rather, it does work better this way from that perspective.

If you want to get inside, go on Day 1 right as you board the ship. Most guests will be trying to find their room and the buffet.

You should also ask if there are reservations needed for Hyperspace Lounge and how you can obtain one for later in your cruise.

When I was there they were passing out reservation cards to guests.

I’m told they might not always be available, it depends on the cruise and how many people are onboard.

Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge on the Disney Wish

Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge on the Disney Wish

#5 Kids are allowed in the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge

If you have a Star Wars fan who isn’t quite old enough to bend their elbow at the bar, that’s ok!

Young Jedis are allowed inside until around 8 pm.

Visit Hook’s Barbery on Day 1 to make your appointment

Hooks Barbery is part upscale barber shop and part lounge.

Hooks Barbery on Disney Wish

Hooks Barbery | Disney Wish

This is a manly-man way to get a shave, beard trip, and/or a haircut.

The barber wanted me to spread the word that you should make your appointment on Day 1 because he does book up fast. He can seldom accommodate walk-ins.

I did notice that he had someone in the chair every time I walked by the shop.

The lounge at Hook’s Barbery opens at 5 pm and you do not need a reservation. Old Fashioneds are their specialty.

Hooks Barbery on the Disney Wish

Lounge at Hook’s Barbery | Disney Wish

You’re welcome to visit the lounge whether you're having a haircut or not.

Be on the lookout for some Captain Hook references and gags on the bookshelf. You might spot a spare hook and several timepieces. There’s even a small crocodile figure.

#4 Know where to watch the fireworks

Fireworks are usually offered on Pirate Night, weather permitting. They will be off the starboard side of the Disney Wish.

However, if you’re not standing in the right spot, the AquaMouse water coaster will block most of your view.

pirate night onboard the disney wish

Pirate Night on the Disney Wish

It may be tempting to party like a pirate in the middle of the top deck because that’s where all the action is.

However, you’ll have a lousy view of the fireworks from there.

Disney Wish pirate night

Pirate Night and fireworks on the Disney Wish

I recommend standing alongside the outer railing on the starboard side or on the outer railing of the port side for a more panoramic view.

#3 Visit the bow of the ship

This is the only Disney ship that allows guests to visit the bow.

It’s a terrific experience and great for a few pictures. Don’t forget to do your best, “I’m the king of the world” impression.

disney wish bow

Visit the bow of the Disney Wish

I recommend going at sunset. Also, be sure to turn around and wave to the crew on the bridge. They might wave back!

Views from the bow of the Disney Wish

The bow is closed at night and during windy conditions.

#2 Check out Hero Zone

This is a multipurpose activity room on Deck 12 with a basketball hoop, air hockey tables, foosball, and ping pong tables.

Hero Zone is indoors and air-conditioned.

It’s often open for free play but there are a number of planned youth activities in this space as well.

I’m grateful that Imagineers moved this indoors and provided air conditioning.

On the other Disney ships, this space is outside on the top deck - in the blazing hot sun.

My son loved Hero Zone more than the kid’s clubs and would spend hours in here shooting hoops with other kids. We had a few air hockey tournaments too.

#1 Book a Land and Sea Packages: Disney World and Disney Wish

You should never fly into Orlando the same day your cruise departs.

If you experience a flight delay or cancellation, you could miss out on the cruise. Why not arrive a few days early and visit Walt Disney World? Can you really visit Orlando and not go to Disney?

Category VGT (Guaranteed). This means you're guaranteed to be assigned a verandah stateroom, but you won't know which one it is until just before your sail date. It’s like booking a hotel room, you’re guaranteed a room and category, but the room is assigned when you check in.

The advantage of a Guarantee booking is that they are priced lower than the traditional rate for that category of stateroom.
