Disney Selects Godparents for the Disney Treasure
What a great way to honor those who work for the Walt Disney Company!
Disney Cruise Line (DCL) announced the new “godparents” for its new ship, Disney Treasure…the entire Walt Disney Company cast, crew, Imagineers, and employees around the world!
Disney said it selected its employees as a heartfelt tribute to the more than 200,000 dreamers and doers who make every Disney entertainment, vacation and at-home experience possible. DCL will celebrate the magic makers from across the globe who have created meaningful, lifelong Disney memories for generations of families at a special ceremony at the West Side piers in New York City on Nov. 19.
“At the core of everything we do at Disney are the dedicated Cast Members and employees who create the magic that brings joy to millions of people around the globe,” said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “That’s why we are proud to honor all Disney employees as the godparents of the Disney Treasure. This is our way of paying tribute to the dreamers and doers who continue to tell our stories in the most compelling and innovative ways.”
Fulfilling a longstanding maritime tradition, the time-honored role of a ship godparent symbolically bestows good fortune on the vessel and its travelers with a special blessing during the ship’s Christening ceremony.
In 2022, DCL reimagined the tradition by naming all Make-A-Wish children—including past, present and future recipients—as godchildren of the Disney Wish, sister ship to the Disney Treasure.
Inspired by the theme of adventure, Disney Treasure will feature both new and signature DCL experiences steeped in captivating Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Disney Parks stories. These include an original Broadway-style retelling of “Moana”; immersive dining experiences inspired by Pixar’s “Coco” and Marvel Super Heroes; a splashtacular Mickey Mouse-themed water attraction; signature fireworks at sea; imaginative clubs for kids of all ages; and new lounges inspired by the beloved Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion and “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” Disney Parks attractions.
Disney Treasure is part of a multi-year expansion of the DCL fleet, which currently includes six ships and seven more ships on order or being built by 2031. The period of growth strengthens DCL’s role as an ambassador of Disney storytelling, bringing beloved entertainment and characters to families across the globe.

6 Tips for Sailing on Disney Cruise Line
My best Disney Cruise line tips
Disney cruises are truly something special from being immersed in Disney entertainment 24/7 to the outstanding service and crew. But there’s a lot more to it than just booking a stateroom and showing up.
As a travel advisor who works with Disney Cruise Line every day, I have made a list of the most helpful tips that will help you get even more out of your cruise. And if you would like me to plan it with you, contact me here to get started.
#6 Ask for free/discounted upgrades
Here’s a secret! A limited number of upgraded rooms may be available on embarkation day. People cancel at the last minute or have trouble with their flight (see tip #2).
Before boarding the ship, stop at Guest Services to see if there are any discounted upgrades available. I was recently offered Concierge Stateroom for $6,400. Before embarkation day, this category was $9,800, so that was a savings of $3,400!
Expert Tip: Schedule your port arrival time as early as you can on embarkation day. This gives you the best chance for snagging an upgrade plus you’ll enjoy even more time onboard the ship.
#5 Use a Disney travel agent
I’m a travel advisor who specializes in Disney vacations with a lot of experience in booking Disney cruises. But did you know this is how I got started in this work? I booked my first cruise through Magical Vacations Travel because I was overwhelmed when I planning my first cruise.
Using a Disney travel agent is FREE! There are no built-in costs or hidden fees passed on to you.
Onboard Disney Cruise Credit! My clients enjoy a generous onboard credit that can be used towards upgrades like spa services, port adventures, specialty beverages, and more.
Most importantly, I provide expert answers to all your questions about Disney Cruise Line.
Overwhelmed with planning your Disney Cruise? Start here ▸
#4 Save money on a future cruise
While onboard you’ll have an opportunity to book your next cruise at a substantial discount. Don’t miss this opportunity! This is the best way to save money on your next Disney cruise.
Not sure when to book? No problem! Disney Cruise Line will allow you to book a “placeholder cruise” so you don’t have to commit to an actual sail date or itinerary right away. The placeholder cruise just locks in the discounted price.
#3 Use Disney Cruise Line transportation in Orlando
Disney Cruise Line buses operate between Orlando International Airport, Walt Disney World Resort, and Port Canaveral. Disney will even transfer your luggage from the hotel directly to your stateroom onboard the ship.
See my Guide to Port Canaveral ▸
#2 Arrive a day or two before the cruise
If you experience a flight delay or cancellation, the ship will not wait for you! always arrive a day or two ahead of time. If you’re cruising from Orlando (Port Canaveral) there are plenty of things to do in the area: Visit Disney World or Universal Orlando, Gatorland, and more.
Expert Tip: Purchase travel protection from Disney, it’s about 8% of the total cruise fare and can be added on at any time before making the final payment. It’s a terrible investment until something goes wrong. Then, it’s the best investment you ever made!
#1 Schedule a Disney character call
This is so much fun! When it’s time to drop the big news of your Disney cruise, you can get a little help from Mickey Mouse and pals with a recorded phone call (it’s not an actual 1 on 1 call but it’s still very cute).
You’ll find the “schedule a call” feature in Disney Cruise Line mobile app.
Expert Tip: Record your little one answering the phone to capture their reaction. You can share it with my followers on Facebook and Instagram @orlandoparksguy

Disney Dream - Disney Cruise Line
The Disney Dream (Disney Cruise Line) offers immersive spaces that are perfectly designed for families, kids, and adults.
Disney Dream Cruise Ship Summary
The Disney Dream (Disney Cruise Line) offers immersive spaces that are perfectly designed for families, kids, and adults.
The Disney Dream sails a variety of itineraries all over the world, including cruises to top European destinations in the summer season, voyages from New York City in the fall and Bahamas and Caribbean sailings from south Florida.
Onboard, a guest favorite is the AquaDuck, a 765-foot long water coaster that suspends riders high above the sea; get lost in a magical tale of love during an exclusive live performance of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”; rediscover beloved stories, songs and characters during other Broadway-style stage spectaculars; and enjoy much-needed “me time” at dedicated kids’ clubs and adult escapes.
Why It’s Popular
Enchanting Entertainment: Delight in Broadway-caliber musicals, lively deck parties and fireworks at sea (fireworks on most cruises).
Spacious Staterooms: Designed for Families: extra space and storage, sitting area, and split bath to allow more people to get ready simultaneously.
Disney’s Private Island: Relax in paradise with beach chairs, umbrellas, waterslides and a buffet lunch (on most Bahamian and Caribbean cruises).
Variety of Dining Options: Enjoy upscale restaurants, buffets, poolside snacks and 24-hour room service.
Imaginative Youth Clubs: Play in themed clubs for every age, staffed by specially trained Disney counselors.
Nightclubs & Lounges: Discover adults-only areas that include a variety of bars and pubs.
Pools & Recreation: Splash it up in freshwater pools and waterslides at sea.
Entertainment
From dazzling stage shows to over-the-top deck parties, entertainment aboard the Disney Dream is designed to delight the entire family. Broadway-style stage spectaculars delight audiences in the lavish Walt Disney Theatre, one of which is exclusively presented aboard the Disney Dream.
“Beauty and the Beast” brings Belle’s enchanting adventure to the Walt Disney Theatre stage in a whole new way by incorporating imaginative elements from the live-action film and the classic animated feature. Guests are invited to experience this tale as old as time like never before, as they are whisked away on a magical journey to discover the power of transformation in this Broadway-style musical that is exclusive to the Disney Dream.
“Disney’s Believe” features a cast of beloved characters who help a father dedicated to his work as a botanist discover that there is something far more important to tend to than his plants.
“The Golden Mickeys” is a Hollywood-style awards show celebrating the musical heritage of Disney animated films with spectacular songs and special appearances from Mickey and friends.
There are also movies shown in the Walt Disney Theatre, as well as up on deck by the family pool and in the Buena Vista Theatre, a cinema with plush stadium-style seats that screens first-run movies and digital 3-D films.
On select itineraries, there’s an evening brimming with buccaneer fun during the “Pirates IN the Caribbean” celebration. An interactive show featuring Jack Sparrow culminates in a fireworks spectacular choreographed to the dramatic musical score from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movies. This is a family-friendly bash featuring electrifying music, stunning visuals and special effects.
The Disney Dream continues the Disney Cruise Line tradition of age-appropriate fun for kids of all ages in specially designated spaces just for them:
Disney’s Oceaneer Club transports kids ages 3 to 12 to the magical lands of Disney fairies, courageous superheroes, adventuresome toys, undersea exploration, and Force-filled characters that are out of this world.
Disney’s Oceaneer Lab is a nautical wonderland where children ages 3 to 12 embark on a journey of discovery with arts and crafts, gaming, and counselor-led activities.
It’s a Small World Nursery is a whimsical world for infants and toddlers up to age 3 where they are safely cared for by trained Disney counselors.
Vibe (ages 14 to 17) and Edge (ages 11 to 14) are ultra-cool teens and tween hangouts with comfy couches, music, video games, and other chill-out necessities.
At Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, aspiring young princesses and knights become Disney royalty with the help of a fairy godmother-in-training.
When the pirate deck party is on the evening schedule, the space transforms into The Pirate League, where young sailors can unleash their inner buccaneer with a piratical makeover.
Entertainment for Adults on the Disney Dream
On the Disney Dream, guests step into a domain that’s all their own at The District—an extraordinary adult-exclusive nighttime entertainment neighborhood that features trendy and sophisticated bars and lounges.
Skyline is an ever-changing venue that celebrates some of the world’s most famous cities. Tall “windows” along one wall give guests a birds-eye view of stunning city skylines such as Paris, Rio, New York, Chicago and Hong Kong.
Pink: Wine and Champagne Bar is an intimate cocktail bar serving top-shelf wines and liquor as well as champagne.
Evolution is the premiere venue and the main club for adult guests, bringing a piece of big-city nightlife to the high seas.
Pub 687 is a warm and welcoming environment – a modern interpretation of a traditional pub. The casual setting is perfect for guests to kick back and watch live sports and major broadcast events on one of several flat-screen televisions.
District Lounge is the first entertainment venue upon entering The District. Here, guests find a stylish, relaxed atmosphere with comfortable, contoured seating and an open floor plan.
Dining on the Disney Dream
Enjoying the three uniquely themed family restaurants aboard the Disney Dream is convenient and hassle-free, as guests “rotate” through the restaurants each night accompanied by the same serving team for a variety of menus and cuisines and friendly, personalized service.
Royal Palace, is an exquisite dining room perfect for any king or queen.
Enchanted Garden, is a transformative oasis inspired by the gardens of Versailles; and Animator’s Palate, a Disney Cruise Line signature restaurant, is the perfect setting for delicious dining with a magical Disney twist.
While dining at Animator’s Palate, families are immersed in a vivid undersea environment during “Undersea Magic,” where Crush makes a special guest appearance and engages in live impromptu interactions with guests as he swims around the restaurant.
Two adult-exclusive restaurants – Palo, specializing in modern Italian cuisine, and Remy, an upscale and romantic dining experience serving French-inspired cuisine – feature stunning ocean views and a formal, romantic ambiance.
Disney Dream Staterooms
There are a variety of staterooms on the Disney Dream. Veranda Staterooms are the most popular. For additional space and occupancy, Disney offers Deluxe Family Oceanview Staterooms.

The Grand Hall will be the key to unlocking a trove of captivating new entertainment, including dedicated shows, character encounters, and musical performances.
As the story unfolds for guests on the Disney Treasure, the “Aladdin”-themed Grand Hall will serve as the ship’s most prominent gathering space, inspiring wonder and exploration during each voyage.
The uniquely designed two-story space will evoke the natural beauty and openness of the savanna and will feature cruise line classics such as “Match Your Mate” and “Family Time Game Show,” and new favorites that debuted on the Disney Wish like “Villains Game Night.”
The Walt Disney Theatre is an opulent show palace that will come alive with original Broadway-style productions developed exclusively for Disney Cruise Line – “Beauty and the Beast” and “Disney Seas the Adventure” – both Disney Cruise Line fan favorites.

At Walt Disney Imagineering Lab, kids will discover the secrets of world-renowned Disney Imagineers — the creative masterminds behind Disney theme parks, resorts, and cruise ships — with hands-on activities and inventive experiments.
At Star Wars: Cargo Bay, the peculiar creatures and legendary characters from a galaxy far, far away take center stage immersing kids in their own Star Wars story as they take on the role of creature handlers and learn to manage a mischievous menagerie of exotic beings.
Mickey and Minnie Captain’s Deck is a nautical playground inspired by the colors, icons, and magic of Disney Cruise Line. Little cadets will set sail on a fun-filled adventure with an array of maritime-themed physical and sensory-style games and activities.
Dining
In addition to the return of two beloved Disney Cruise Line restaurant concepts found on the Disney Wish, the Disney Treasure will introduce a brand-new family entertainment restaurant.
Plaza de Coco will be the world’s first theatrical dining experience themed to the Disney and Pixar film, “Coco.” The story of Miguel and his familia will continue where it left off on screen as they gather in Mariachi Plaza to take guests on two nights of colorful, music-filled journeys that celebrate family memories and togetherness with festive dinner menus of modern twists on traditional Mexican fare and a lineup of live entertainment.
Worlds of Marvel, Disney Cruise Line’s immersive Marvel-themed dining experience, celebrates favorite Avengers characters and stories, including an amazing interaction with Spider-Man.
This high- tech venue aboard the Disney Treasure will offer a worldly menu and special entertainment, including two separate nights with distinct shows and dining, all inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
1923, named for the founding year of Walt Disney Animation Studios, will celebrate the profound impact of Disney’s animation legacy and bring to life Walt Disney’s love of adventure through a nostalgic collection of exploration-themed artwork from both modern and classic animated films.
Steeped in the glamour of Hollywood’s golden age, the venue’s upscale ambiance will complement a sophisticated menu inspired by the fusion of cultural flavors found throughout California and designed with families in mind.
Marceline Market is the primary buffet restaurant onboard the Treasure and features an ever-changing menu.
Mickey & Friends Festival of Food is the quick-service eatery on the Disney Treasure serving up BBQ, chicken, burgers, tacos, and pizza. A late-night menu is also available.
The Disney Treasure will continue Disney Cruise Line’s innovative family dining concept, where guests experience one of three imaginative restaurants each night, accompanied by a dedicated service team that joins them throughout the voyage, adding a level of familiarity to their dining experience.
The new ship will feature quick bites, casual dining, 24-hour room service, specialty dining, gourmet coffee, adults-only dining, and Jumbeaux’s Sweets, inspired by the popular ice cream parlor featured in Disney’s “Zootopia.”
Periscope Pub will be Disney Cruise Line’s first venue inspired by the spellbinding adventure of Walt Disney’s 1954 film, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” and the celebrated Disney Parks attraction that was open at Walt Disney World from 1971 to 1994.
Guests will dive into the mythical depths of uncharted oceans amidst the submarine-styled interiors and take a look at the watery world below through an intriguing glass ceiling.
In addition to watching the latest sports games, explorers at the Periscope Pub will encounter a menu of craft brews and light bites.
Adventure awaits guests beneath a tangle of untamed foliage at Skipper Society, a centrally located outpost that will feature refined nods to the iconic Jungle Cruise attraction at Disney theme parks around the globe.
The venue’s natural colorways and camp-style furnishings, paired with sly tributes to the trusty, dry-witted skippers who lead world-famous tours across treacherous waterways, will offer an elevated, yet playful atmosphere where guests will indulge in themed cocktails and light snacks.
Fan-favorite, adult-exclusive dining locations will also return on the Disney Treasure. Guests will savor gourmet meals and exceptional beverages at Palo Steakhouse, Enchanté by Chef Arnaud Lallement and The Rose, an upscale suite of epicurean excellence exclusively for adults, inspired by the elegant icons of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Beauty and the Beast.”
The popular Palo Steakhouse will come to the Disney Treasure, combining the relaxed sophistication of authentic Italian dining with the classic refinement of a modern steakhouse in a genteel setting inspired by Cogsworth, the tale’s majordomo-turned-enchanted-clock.
Enchanté will offer the most luxurious dining experience on board, featuring a gourmet menu crafted by three-Michelin-starred Chef Arnaud Lallement.
This romantic and intimate venue will evoke the dazzling spirit of the film’s candelabra maître d’, Lumiere.
The Rose will be a chic lounge at the entrance of Palo Steakhouse and Enchanté.
Inspired by the fateful flower at the heart of the story, The Rose will be an idyllic setting for an after-dinner cocktail.
Staterooms
The staterooms on board Disney Treasure are built with families in mind and feature upscale amenities. Most will include Disney Cruise Line’s signature split-bath concept, and many will offer the option of a connecting door that adjoins staterooms to accommodate larger groups voyaging together – with 451 connecting doors in all. In addition, most of the ship’s 1,256 staterooms will offer an ocean view.
The Disney Treasure concierge-level staterooms and suites will offer both adventure and indulgence and an exclusive concierge lounge with a private sun deck that serves as the perfect place to relax, sip a cocktail, and enjoy a variety of food and beverages throughout the day.

Guests need to select a port arrival time to avoid having to sit and wait for their boarding number to be called.
Early entry to the terminal is not permitted in most cases.
This is also true for Royal Caribbean.
Disney Cruise Line Voyages from Port Everglades
The Disney Dream began sailing from Port Everglades on November 20, 2023.
Disney Magic will begin her voyages from here on May 9, 2024, offering guests the opportunity to sail on a mix of three, four, and five-night cruises to The Bahamas and the Caribbean.
These sailings will visit Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Nassau, along with stops at Castaway Cay, a private island paradise reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests.
And for even more tropical fun, in 2024, families can sail from Fort Lauderdale to Disney Cruise Line’s new island destination, Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point in The Bahamas.
Disney Cruise Line Land and Sea
Walt Disney World Resort is just a few hours away from the Disney Cruise Line terminal in Port Everglades.
Traveling between Fort Lauderdale and Orlando is now easier than ever with new, high-speed train service connecting the two cities.

Disney’s newest cruise port is located in close proximity to three international airports.
And for pre- and post-cruise stays, Fort Lauderdale is just a short drive to the beach, offering a vibrant art scene, world-class restaurants, entertainment, shopping and family-friendly activities – including the area’s namesake, the Florida Everglades.
Disney Cruise Line and Broward County entered into a 15-year agreement that includes a minimum of 10.6 million passenger movements, and three 5-year extension options that could add another 11.25 million passenger movements through Port Everglades.
The agreement provides for one ship to homeport in Port Everglades year-round beginning this fall 2023, joined by a second, seasonal ship in 2025.

Discover the Magic of Disney Parks on a Disney Treasure Cruise
Here's a first look at some of the secrets inspired by the Disney Theme Parks that Disney Imagineers are incorporating into the Disney Treasure.
Disney Cruise Line recently announced secrets about its latest ship, Disney Treasure. We learned that, for the first time ever, there will be several Disney Parks-inspired venues onboard the ship.
For example, The Periscope Pub, inspired by Walt Disney’s 1954 film and the legacy Disney Parks attraction, “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,”
And the Skipper Society will draw on Jungle Cruise attractions from around the world.
Here's a first look at some of the secrets inspired by the Disney Theme Parks that Disney Imagineers are incorporating into the Disney Treasure.
#10 The Epcot Suite | Disney Treasure Secrets
Imagineers will place a special sculpture at the base of the Tomorrow Tower Suite’s spiral staircase that honors the iconic Epcot landmark, Spaceship Earth. The sculpture will bring the spirit of Epcot to life when guests enter the suite through music and lighting effects.
I wonder if it will have the burning wood smell from the Rome scene in the ride. I can only hope.
#9 Figment References | Disney Treasure Secrets
Epcot's Figment is the adorable purple dragon who first debuted at the Journey Into Imagination of course. In the Tomorrow Tower Suite, guests will encounter Figment posing in various hiding places.
Disney Treasure Secret #8 (20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Reference)
The Periscope Pub will offer a delicious menu of light bites, undersea-inspired drinks, and craft brews, including three exclusive tap beers that will be uniquely themed to the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea film.
#7 Disney GPS Coordinate Easter Eggs | Disney Treasure Secrets
Take a look at the image above, specifically the submarine pressure gauge behind the bar. Disney Imagineers will include numbers on it that will honor the geographical coordinates of the Meyer Werft shipyard where the Disney Treasure was built and the official hull numbers of each ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet.
The Disney Wish has something similar. When Funnel Vision isn’t being used, a screensaver comes on that displays several round nautical compasses and gauges. You’ll see a series of coordinates on the gauges for the Meyer Werft Shipyard, the Dinsey Cruise Line headquarters in Celebration, FL, and more.
#6 Even More 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea References | Disney Treasure Secrets
Throughout the Periscope Pub, you’ll discover various artifacts, drawings, and books used by Captain Nemo and his brave crew during undersea explorations on the Nautilus.
#5 Jungle Cruise References | Disney Treasure Secrets
Skipper Society will have a jungle boat name of its own! Imagineers will dub the vessel housing the bar “Ems Empress” after the Ems River where the Disney Treasure will make her first voyage to sea.
After a Disney ship is completed, it sails down the Ems River to open waters. The Ems River is located in Northwestern Germany.
The conveyance to open waters takes about 10 hours.
An “Ems Empress” sign will hang proudly inside the venue when the Disney Treasure sets sail in December 2024.
#4 Jungle Cruise Audio Easter Eggs | Disney Treasure Secrets
While sipping cocktails the Skipper Society, you’ll hear familiar music playing in the venue, including spiels from the Jungle Cruise attractions around the world!
That means you’ll hear Skipper voices from across the globe and in various languages such as English, Dutch, French, Cantonese, and more.
I hope we get to see the backside of water.
#3 Jungle Cruise Color Palette Carries Over to Treasure | Disney Treasure Secrets
The walls inside the Skipper Society will be painted using the same red and green tones as the Jungle Cruise sign at Walt Disney World.
#2 Jungle Cruise Easter Eggs and Backside of Water | Disney Treasure Secrets
You may notice the vintage-style luggage stacked neatly behind the bar at Skipper Society featured in the artist's rendering of the venue.
Each suitcase will be plastered with travel stickers that represent locations depicted inside the Jungle Cruise attraction.
There will even be a travel sticker for the backside of water!
#1 Orginal Plants Used from Jungle Cruise | Disney Treasure Secrets
We can’t forget about the Disneyland version of Jungle Cruise, it’s OG after all.
The variety of plants growing around Jungle Cruise in California gives guests the sense that they are sailing in waterways around the globe.
In honor of the original attraction, the plants throughout the Skipper Society on the Disney Treasure will be the same foliage species thriving in Disneyland.

What's the Difference Between Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean?
Disney Cruise Line vs. Royal Caribbean
Both Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean dominate the market for family-friendly cruise vacations and they both deliver a premium family vacation experience unlike any of the other cruise lines out there.
They both have private islands in the Bahamas. Most Bhamaian and Caribbean cruises include a stop at their respective island. Disney’s Castaway Cay is more tranquil and natural while Royal’s is more of a destination with restaurants, pools, water slides and of course, beaches.
People often ask me, which cruise line is better, Disney or Royal Caribbean? But it’s not about who is better, that’s too subjective. It’s about booking the vacation experience that appeals to you most.
Let me explain. There are basically 3 categories of cruises:
The inexpensive party cruises - popular with college kids.
Destination-rich cruises - popular with those enjoying their golden years.
Family-focused cruising - ships packed with exciting onboard activities.
Both Disney Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean are obviously family-focused.
But they also attract a number of active adults who want to be somewhere between college kids having a blast and a boatload of retirees who enjoy quietly reading at the pool.
Disney Cruise Line
Disney Cruise Line is perfect for those with children ages 4 to 10.
But I would argue that Disney cruises are also ideal for Disney fans of all ages. Onboard experiences are centered around meeting Disney characters and Disney-themed shows.
Spaces onboard Disney cruise ships are highly themed environments, just like the theme parks. For example, on the Disney Wish, you’ll dine in the royal banquet hall of Arendelle from Disney’s Frozen film, or enjoy a drink in a Star Wars lounge that’s truly out-of-this-world (pun intended).
The newer Disney ships have water coasters that circle the top deck along with pools and Disney movies that play all day on a giant movie screen called Funnel Vision.
Disney Cruise Line offers a very high level of service and attention to detail, even when going though the booking process.
One of the best features about DCL is that many standard staterooms can accommodate 4 to 5 guests. This is not the case with most other cruise lines. But Royal Caribbean offers plenty of connecting stateroom options for families.
While Disney Cruise Line is on the higher end of cruise fares, I think you will feel that you definitely feel that you got what you paid for.
If you have tweens or teens that are indifferent to Disney, Star Wars or Marvel, then I recommend Royal Caribbean.
Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean is the largest cruise line in the world and offers ships that are designed specifically with family vacations in mind.
Royal specializes in variety. Ships are expertly designed to offer something for the entire family.
This is especially true on the Oasis Class ships, the largest cruise ships in the world.
Some Royal Caribbean ships offer things like zip lines across the top deck, pools, rock climbing walls, water slides, ice skating (on real ice - in a real rink!), laser-tag courses, escape room challenges, bumper cars, specialty restaurants like a hibachi steakhouse, wellness spas, lounges, and casinos.
There are so many reasons to get excited about a Royal Caribbean cruise.
Royal Caribbean’s ships are loaded from bow to stern with game-changing thrills but also offer theater shows, live entertainment, as well as next-level dining, and a high level of service. See Royal Caribbean my tips ▸
Both Disney and Royal Caribbean offer a premium vacation experience with first-class activities and service.
They both dominate the Florida cruise market, departing from Port Canaveral (Orlando) and Miami but they each offer international itineraries too.
For example, Disney and Royal Caribbean sail to Alaska, the Mediterranean, Asia, and Mexico.

Save Now, Sail Later with Disney Cruise Line in Early 2024
Disney Cruise Line Returns to Picture-Perfect Tropical Destinations in Early 2024.
Disney Cruise Line is about to release early 2024 itineraries to the Caribbean, Mexico, Bahamas, and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
Voyages will be from Florida (Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale), Galveston, and New Orleans, and San Diego.
Why book a 2024 cruise now?
I always say that the best way to save on a cruise is to book as far in advance as possible. As stateroom inventory goes down, fares go up and it happens quickly.
Experienced cruisers wait for these announcements and it’s why Disney Cruise Line loyalty club members have early booking perks, ahead of the general public.
Bookings open to the general public on Dec. 15, 2022.
Disney Cruise Line Castaway Club members may take advantage of the following extended early booking windows:
Platinum Castaway Club Members: Monday, Dec. 12, 2022
Gold Castaway Club Members: Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2022
Silver Castaway Club Members, Disney Vacation Club Members: Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022
Early 2024 Disney Cruise Line Itineraries
The Disney Dream will begin early 2024 with an assortment of three- and four-night getaways to the Bahamas and five-night vacations to the western Caribbean.
All sailings from Florida will include a stop at Castaway Cay.
Caribbean Adventures from Texas and Louisiana
The Disney Magic will embark on Caribbean adventures ranging in length from four to six nights through the end of January.
Upon returning for another month-long stint between March and April, the ship will sail cruises ranging from four to seven nights to the western Caribbean during the popular spring break period.
New Orleans will welcome the Disney Magic back for a second consecutive year in February 2024 with four-, five- and seven-night cruises to the Caribbean.
Mexican Escapes from California
After returning from its inaugural season in Australia and New Zealand, the Disney Wonder will arrive in San Diego, California in March 2024 for three- to seven-night voyages to Mexico, including the Baja peninsula.

What Happens if you Test Positive for COVID-19 Prior to your Disney Cruise?
Changes to Disney Cruise Line Flexible Refund Policy
Disney Cruise Line has made a change to its COVID-19 cancellation policy.
For sailings booked on or after Dec. 9, 2022, those who test positive for COVID-19 within 10 days of their sail date can receive a refund in their original form of payment without Disney-imposed cancellation fees or apply their cruise fare toward a future cruise credit.
This replaces the current cancellation policy of 14-days prior to the sailing date.
Travel insurance and cancellation fees imposed by third-party suppliers, including airlines, are not refundable.
As a reminder, Disney Cruise Line no longer requires a COVID-19 test, regardless of vaccination status prior to sailing.
Guests who booked their reservation before Dec. 9, 2022 can view information about the Flexible Refund Policy here.

My Top 10 Tips for the Disney Wish
Planning on a Disney Wish vacation? Here are 1o tips that will help you get more out of your cruise.
The Disney Wish is Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, sailing from Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida. On my last trip, I created a list of helpful tips that will enhance your experience onboard the ship.
#10 Arrive before the scheduled arrival time.
If you’re driving, arrive at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled port arrival time. There are a lot of cars waiting to drop off their luggage and park in the garage.
It’s important to point out that you shouldn’t arrive too early, you will not be able to check in until your confirmed arrival time.
#9 Learn the elevator system
The Disney Wish is wonderful, but something went askew when they were designing the elevators on this ship.
Only some of the elevators go beyond Deck 11, they’re marked with a sign over the door so you know how high the elevator goes, so watch for those.
Unfortunately, there’s no way to specifically call the elevators that go beyond Deck 11.
More than likely one of the elevators that don’t go above Deck 11 will come simply because there are more of them.
You’ll have to wait for the elevator doors to close, press the call button again and keep repeating this process until the right elevator arrives.
The elevators are narrow, and there are no windows. It reminds me of The Haunted Mansion, “This chamber has no windows and no doors…”
#8 No dinner buffet
Buffets on cruises go together like tacos and Tuesday but you may be surprised to learn that the Disney Wish Doesn’t offer a dinner buffet.
I actually like this because it changes the perception that cruises are all about conga lines and buffet meals.
Marceline Marketplace is open for breakfast and lunch but for dinner service, you’ll need to visit one of the excellent rotational restaurants such as Arendelle: a Frozen Dining Adventure, Worlds of Marvel, 1923, room service, or visit Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods.
Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods is the quick-service restaurant on the Disney Wish, conveniently located near the pool.
It’s similar to a buffet because there are so many options ranging from authentic barbecue, burgers, hotdogs, chicken tenders (of course), macaroni and cheese (of course), surprisingly good thin-crust pizza, and a comprehensive taco/burrito station.
“Mickey and Friends Festival of Foods” is included with your cruise fare, as is most dining on the Disney Wish.
I do recommend the rotational dining rooms, but if you’re not in the mood for a sit-down dinner, this is a great alternative.
On our cruise, we were having so much watching the movie Lilo and Stich on the pool deck that we decided to skip the formal dinner and just sample foods from the quick service options in our swimsuits.
We had the entire deck to ourselves that night and it ended up being one of our favorite experiences of the whole cruise. Those unexpected moments you have on vacation end up being the most fun.
#7 Buy your souvenirs on Day 1 or 2
On the first night, I stopped at the logo store to look for a Disney Wish t-shirt.
I saw a lot of great options but wasn’t ready to commit to any one item at that moment.
On Day 3 of the cruise, I returned to the store but most of the things I wanted were sold out, or not my size. Shops onboard have limited quantities of merchandise for each sailing so they regulate how much they put out for sale.
On Royal Caribbean, it’s best to wait until the last night of your cruise to buy merchandise because the logo store will likely have a big sale, especially on t-shirts. Not so with Disney Cruise Line!
#6 Visit Hyperspace Lounge on Day 1
Hyperspace Lounge is the coveted Star Wars-themed bar onboard the Disney Wish.
It’s the one thing that everyone wants to see, so naturally, Disney Imagineers made it very small and with limited seating. Although I will give them credit for making it an intimate space rather, it does work better this way from that perspective.
If you want to get inside, go on Day 1 right as you board the ship. Most guests will be trying to find their room and the buffet.
You should also ask if there are reservations needed for Hyperspace Lounge and how you can obtain one for later in your cruise.
When I was there they were passing out reservation cards to guests.
I’m told they might not always be available, it depends on the cruise and how many people are onboard.
#5 Kids are allowed in the Star Wars Hyperspace Lounge
If you have a Star Wars fan who isn’t quite old enough to bend their elbow at the bar, that’s ok!
Young Jedis are allowed inside until around 8 pm.
Visit Hook’s Barbery on Day 1 to make your appointment
Hooks Barbery is part upscale barber shop and part lounge.
This is a manly-man way to get a shave, beard trip, and/or a haircut.
The barber wanted me to spread the word that you should make your appointment on Day 1 because he does book up fast. He can seldom accommodate walk-ins.
I did notice that he had someone in the chair every time I walked by the shop.
The lounge at Hook’s Barbery opens at 5 pm and you do not need a reservation. Old Fashioneds are their specialty.
You’re welcome to visit the lounge whether you're having a haircut or not.
Be on the lookout for some Captain Hook references and gags on the bookshelf. You might spot a spare hook and several timepieces. There’s even a small crocodile figure.
#4 Know where to watch the fireworks
Fireworks are usually offered on Pirate Night, weather permitting. They will be off the starboard side of the Disney Wish.
However, if you’re not standing in the right spot, the AquaMouse water coaster will block most of your view.
It may be tempting to party like a pirate in the middle of the top deck because that’s where all the action is.
However, you’ll have a lousy view of the fireworks from there.
I recommend standing alongside the outer railing on the starboard side or on the outer railing of the port side for a more panoramic view.
#3 Visit the bow of the ship
This is the only Disney ship that allows guests to visit the bow.
It’s a terrific experience and great for a few pictures. Don’t forget to do your best, “I’m the king of the world” impression.
I recommend going at sunset. Also, be sure to turn around and wave to the crew on the bridge. They might wave back!
The bow is closed at night and during windy conditions.
#2 Check out Hero Zone
This is a multipurpose activity room on Deck 12 with a basketball hoop, air hockey tables, foosball, and ping pong tables.
It’s often open for free play but there are a number of planned youth activities in this space as well.
I’m grateful that Imagineers moved this indoors and provided air conditioning.
On the other Disney ships, this space is outside on the top deck - in the blazing hot sun.
My son loved Hero Zone more than the kid’s clubs and would spend hours in here shooting hoops with other kids. We had a few air hockey tournaments too.
#1 Book a Land and Sea Packages: Disney World and Disney Wish
You should never fly into Orlando the same day your cruise departs.
If you experience a flight delay or cancellation, you could miss out on the cruise. Why not arrive a few days early and visit Walt Disney World? Can you really visit Orlando and not go to Disney?
Disney even provides bus transportation from Disney World to Port Canaveral and to Orlando International Airport.
The Disney Wish sails on alternating 3 and 4-night cruises, so it’s easy to add on a Walt Disney World stay and make it a week-long vacay.
I help people plan Land and Sea vacations with Disney every day. I also offer my clients a generous onboard credit that can be used on upgraded experiences. Contact me now to get started.
