The Best Portable Chargers for Disney World and Universal Orlando
You might think that being on vacation would give you a break from using your phone but at Walt Disney World, plan to be on your phone even more! All of the important package components are accessed through the Disney World App like Genie+, park entry, hotel room entry, mobile food ordering, wait times, PhotoPass, and more.
Universal Orlando doesn’t rely on its mobile app as much as Disney World, but you will be on your phone for things like mobile food orders, park maps, show times, and attraction wait times.
An Orlando theme park vacation requires a fairly new phone with all the current updates, the Disney World mobile app and/or Universal Orlando App installed, and a healthy battery.
But even with a good battery, you’ll be on your phone so much, that you likely will not make it through the day without needing a recharge.
This is where portable chargers come in. (You can support my blog by clicking on my affiliate links to Amazon. I may receive a small commission when you do. Thank you!)
If you’re looking to buy the best portable phone charger for Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, I highly recommend a Fuel Rod.
Fuel Rod is the official portable phone charger of Walt Disney World Resort and Unviersal Orlando Resort. You’ll also find them at most major airports and theme parks.
Throughout the Orlando theme parks you’ll find Fuel Rod kiosks where you can purchase a portable charger but even more importantly, swap out a spent charger for a fully charged one.
The cost to swap your charger ranges from $1 - $3, depending on the park you’re in.
Portable Charger Tips
Fuel Rods can be purchased on Amazon for about $30, you’ll receive two. When you purchase Fuel Rod in the theme parks, you’ll pay about $30 for one charger.
If you prefer not to swap them out, Fuel Rods can be recharged by using the accompanying cables. A full charge can be reached in about 3 hours.
How Portable Chargers Work in the Theme Parks
When you phone’s battery is getting low, locate a Fuel Rob kiosk in the theme park. There are plenty of them, usually at quick service restaurants, so finding one shouldn’t be difficult.
If you need to purchase one, enter yoru credit card and follow the steps. Kiosks do not accept apple pay - you will need an actual credit card.
If you’re swapping a Fuel Rod for a new one, select “swap” on the screen and follow the instructions.
FuelRods can charge all phones and tablets that use USB-C, Apple Lightning port, or a micro-USB port.
They are safe for use on airplanes so you can pack them in your carry-on luggage.
